I tried all the available office chair options in store and the Markus stood out as being the most comfortable. Unfortunately, it's not the most practical. When sitting at a desk, the arms are just too high and deep to slide under the desk and sit in a comfortable position. The depth is probably the bigger issue as when I'm not at a desk they feel fine. I think that even if the arms were kept the same, but the entire arm piece was shifted back the problem could be somewhat solved, if not completely. I don't think the arms need to extend all the way to the front of the seat as that area can't be used anyway at a normal desk set up.You only have to look online at the amount of modifications people have made to try to alleviate the problem to know that this is not a ... MoreI tried all the available office chair options in store and the Markus stood out as being the most comfortable. I'm quite surprised that IKEA does not offer alternate arms or a mod kit. One thing that I do associate with IKEA is practicality and this chair does not meet that criteria.

Had this chair for 6 months and it is no longer comfortable or can be considered a usable chair. It is like sitting on a very uncomfortable metal bench .. The cushioning is as flat as a crepe! Was ok in the store and for the first few months. I am a small guy and weigh 70Kg but you would think an elephant had been sitting on this for 20 years! If I had paid 20 euros i would not complain but touching 200 is a scandal.I have sat in used chairs at the thrift store that look like they have seen a war and are 1000 x more pleasant to sit on!IKEA is great for many things but office chairs, definitely not!All this has done is given me a sore behind and an empty wallet.

I've had this chair for a bit over two years now. Up until recently I've been happy with it: not terribly adjustable, but comfortable whether I'm leaning back or sitting upright. I'm 5'4" and I can lower it enough to sit comfortably, and it can be raised to accommodate my 6'2" partner. However, the mechanism that holds the back upright isn't holding up to light pressure. If I lean back it now goes WAY back, which has led me to slosh coffee all over myself a couple times. I have kids who like to hang on the backrest. They do this with their feet on the ground, not hanging their full weight, but this is probably not intended usage. So for a regular office this chair would probably hold up better... When it comes to comfort and ergonomics, the Markus is exceptional. I sit for multiple hours every day at my PC and feel no back pain. What I do miss from my last chair is a bigger seating cushion. I like to lift my feet up on the chair, but the narrow cushion makes that difficult to do.Removable arm rests are a blessing and a curse. When watching a video the arm rests provide great comfort. But when I want to get some work done I cannot pull myself all the way in, because the arms are too high for my table, so I have to remove them.Overall, it does it's job well. You get what you paid for. And get sort of a premium feel with the comfort. But in functionality it falls apart
I've had this chair twice, the first time for about 6 years and now again for a few months.Unfortunately, as several other reviewers have pointed out, the cushion turns hard very quickly and becomes uncomfortable. Arm rests are hard/thin and can't be adjusted. Lumbar support can't be adjusted. It seems like Ikea don't actually care about feedback relating to this chair. They can copy and paste messages about taking on feedback, but in reality there have been no noticeable improvements to this chair in many years. It's a shame, because you just need to make some basic improvements to make it really great.Won't be buying again.
I previously had the vinyl covered version of this chair and it was superb, apart from the fact the vinyl started disintegrating after a a few years.I replaced it with a fabric covered version which was a huge mistake. Both versions of the chair have been extremely comfortable, however the fabric version gives me a static electric shock every time I stand up from it.No. No. It's not the carpet (I'm using it on wooden floors). I'm using it in the exact same environment as I used the vinyl covered version. I NEVER EVER had a static electric shock from the vinyl version. I get it EVERY time standing up from the fabric version.I really wish I'd kept the vinyl version and just put up with the covering flaking away, particularly as they don't make it any more. My fabric covered Markus is still immaculate despite using it daily for several years. Sadly it's heading for landfill due to the static shocks I get from it becoming intolerable. This chair costs nearly 200 quid!!
This is one of the best office chair designs of all time and a bargain. I only wish that Ikea was still offering it in leather. It is by far the most comfortable Ikea office chair. While it does not have an adjustable headrest of armrests, they are positioned really well for most people and are rock solid and silent. Most affordable chairs with adjustable parts become very loose and loud eventually. The sync-tilt mechanism on this chair is legendary and unbeatable at this price range. Lumbar support is also fixed, but it is soft, so it is not intrusive. If there was one area I would suggest IKEA could improve this chair, it would be to remove the zipper pull tab from the back of the headrest since, in some situations, the zipper pull tab can make noise while ... MoreThis is one of the best office chair designs of all time and a bargain. It can be easily done, since they eliminated zipper pull tab from the bottom of the back rest, and the zipper is still functional. Another suggestion would be to bring back more color/material options.
I really liked this chair generally, but it does not age well (7 years old now). Its a primary chair, used 16 hr a day 7 days a week for work, gaming, and TV.I have tendency to rest heavily on the left arm rest , over time (~4 years) the seat started to list to the left as a metal crossbar beneath gouged out metal on the left and eventually snapped. A long bolt & nuts (~$1,20 from HH) replaced the crossbar piece to extend its life, but it still lists when stuck in the gouge. Later some metal (tension?) plate snapped completely too. At 7 years the seat now rocks left & right. The height adjust has worn out too; it either sticks in min. or max. height. Doesn't appear to hold in between positions and sometimes when I leave the chair it rises from min to max on its own ... MoreI really liked this chair generally, but it does not age well (7 years old now). As full on work from home all-purpose chair, results over time will vary.
To reference, I own this current model, and I’ve also owned the previous model. The previous model was built better overall, and I maintained that one for about five years. This current model is not as good and has been made significantly cheaper. The armrest has been converted to a rubber grip instead of a padded cushion.I’ve owned this current model for about eight months now, and it does not have the same build quality as the previous chair. This chair is also loud, not squeaky, but when you lean back, it does make a loud pop noise. It also does this if you tilt back and swivel. I'm unsure if this is a product defect, but it has been an issue since I purchased the chair. It is relatively comfortable for the price you are paying, but if you are planning to use ... MoreTo reference, I own this current model, and I’ve also owned the previous model. Good computer chair generally as other has mentioned. But need to be cautious in Winter, especially if your room has low humidity and you are using using a desktop. It will build up static electricity if you sit for a while and may freeze your desktop due to static discharge. My desktop constantly freezes in Winter due to the static discharge from chair, but it functions normally if I switch to another chair. If you are using a laptop mainly, it should be fine as I haven't encountered any issue with laptops.
