A classic ikea chair

Just remember to tighten the bolts once in a while overtime if it feels lose a bit from sitting in the chair a lot. Have this chair for 7 years and going still strong. Easy to put together.I dont know if all the cushion models do this but it be nice if they all could have a zipper to removable fabric to be able to wash. Though to solve this i use the carpet cleaner hose nozle to clean the cushion once a year.Easy to put together and good selection of choice for cushion colours and styles.

I have a small 900 square foot home where space is at a premium. I really wanted a lounge chair and ottoman for a corner nook. The color works perfectly with the rest of my light neutral home. The real leather cover is exactly what I wanted, because of allergies I avoid fabric material that can harbour dust mites and I can quickly remove any debris . The chair and ottoman are light weight, quick and easy to assemble, and to move around the house. There are only a few tweaks or alternatives I wish were available to take this set from very good to fantastic.1. Narrow/smaller footprint - I wish this chair was a few inches narrower. In a small space it looks much bigger than it is because of how wide it is. When I sit in the chair I easily have 2 to 3 inches of space on either side. The ottoman could easily be half the length and width.2. Seat foam is too thin/weak - while the chair is very comfortable the chair seat foam pad is already starting to show buttock indentations. For a chair that is only a few weeks old it is disappointing. It will be an easy fix to add in thicker foam from a craft store or I might look into purchasing only the foam and trying to double stuff the bottom piece. No other pieces are showing wear yet, which makes sense as the bottom chair pad is going to hold the majority of the weight.3. Matching arm pads and lumbar pillows - I would absolutely purchase matching arm pads and lumbar pillows to make this the ultimate lounge chair. Especially since the covers are easy to swap out it would increase the life of the chair since the frame is likely to last my lifetime.4. More leather color options - I really wanted a tan or camel leather option, but would have considered other colors if given the option. Since it's so easy to swap out covers I could purchase multiple and change according to my mood or when seasons change.

Degraded quality over time, defects out of the box.

2 for 2, defective. Buyer beware. Out of the box several defects at critical points were obvious: de-lamination, chips around slots, grooves and nuts, and a fracture where a nut was inserted (at factory) into the wood at a point which carries significant load. After assembly 50lbs on seat-bed was enough to allow those defects to split the wood around the nut. If a person were to sit in this chair, it would immediately collapse on that side. I was given 2 of these chairs 25 years ago. One lasted 15 years; a replacement purchased five years ago was defective in similar ways to the one received today. The other old one is still in (heavy) use and is in better shape now at 25 years old than what is being delivered to customers as new today. This is obviously not a rare ... More2 for 2, defective. Head cushion only works if you’re the exact right height
4 February 2024

If you’re too tall, the “neck” cushion pushes your shoulders forward. If you’re too short, the “neck cushion pushes the top of your head forward. This ridiculous cushion design is only comfortable if you’re exactly the right heigh and shape. Ridiculous. Ikea did not offer the ability to exchange this cushion. Buyer beware, if you want to “upgrade” to the leather, it may be completely unsuable. I’m debating if it’s better to just saw off the top of the chair versus wasting money on trying another cushion. Ive sat in Poang chairs at friends homes and thought that was what I was getting. But they had older cushions that didn’t have this ridiculous headrest. Would not recommend at all. Feeling major buyer’s remorse so much so that I don’t ever want to shop at ikea again.

Headrest cushion is not comfortable
20 February 2023

I have had this chair for a few months, and I love the aesthetic of it. The colour of the cushion works extremely well in my bedroom. However, the headrest cushion is too large and is uncomfortable. I have had to spend hours sitting in the chair during the night due to health issues and it pushes my head forward, causing more issues. If they offered all the fabrics in both styles (with and without headrest) I would have definitely chosen the one without. Now I'll have to get a cushion for behind my back in the chair.Ikea, you can do better! I love your products and have purchased a lot from you this past year, and this is the first one that I'm disappointed with.

Lower Quality than a few years back.
17 June 2023

This is my 3rd set of these chairs, and they just aren't the same anymore. These chairs used to be excellent. Now they are uncomfortable. Granted, I'm older, but it appears as if the quality is not the same as it used to be. The cushion isn't quite as thick or durable, and it doesn't hold as well to the frame (so it slips). The frame doesn't flex as comfortably as it used to (they used to feel like a rocking chair). They've improved the packaging, so they pack into smaller boxes now, which I appreciate from an environmental perspective, but in doing so (or perhaps by simply moving manufacturing to China), they aren't as comfortable.I can't recommend them.

QC inspection dropped a little.
11 January 2023

While we still love the idea of engineering products, we think the QC doesn’t live up to the good quality standards or drops a little on new productions (post Covid time). The wood isn’t well sanded and the application of clear coat is too thin. My teenage kid got splinters twice. The wood isn’t smooth for us to liberally run our hands on the wood areas. We keep it because we still like how Ikea engineers products. It’s considerably minor enough for us to deal with it during the warranty to see if any improvement. (The QC on big items we bought is our issue. We had to make extra trips for returns) That was frustrating part.

Surface of arm rest is unfinished
7 September 2024

The chair is comfortable, relatively easy to put together and would be a good value if the wood/wood material was properly finished. However, one of the two components that provides the arm rest of the assembled chair is not finished/varnished. The surface is rough to the touch and scraggly enough that may snag clothing. It's not worth the hassle of disassembling it and shipping back as a return item. This is my second Poaeng chair and I am disappointed in the quality of this particular item.

Very poor quality control
15 November 2022

I purchased the Poang chair and ottoman in dark brown finish with blue cushion. The finish, as I noticed with some other furniture in-store, is very rough; my mom got a splinter while assembling and my sweater snagged on the material. The ottoman cushion does not fit the frame--it's too large for the frame, has an unsightly overhang, and dips weirdly in the middle. I have another Poang chair and ottoman I have loved--great construction, smooth, aesthetically pleasing. I wanted to get one for my mom, but the quality of this one is awful. I'm irritated to now have to deal with a return and potential re-purchase and assembly. Customer service: is this a problem with certain finishes, do all ottoman cushions not match? Would love to understand why this one is so starkly ... MoreI purchased the Poang chair and ottoman in dark brown finish with blue cushion. What a comfortable design!
31 March 2023

I first ran into this chair when house shopping. Sat in it while chatting with a realtor. The looks weren't really what I liked, but it was built to be comfortable. I like the springy construction that lets me rock (or spring) when I sit.I'd really wanted the cover to be leather, but I'd have to drive 4.5 hours each way to go to a store and that's ~ for reasons I can't imagine ~ the only way I could get leather. The seat/back cushion are a single piece. The back headrest sits a little to high for me so I've worked and worked to mash it down just a bit so it'll fit a female better. Thinking about just cutting the top from the bottom and sewing it so it'll fit just right. It'd be nice if Ikea would velcro the two together so that could be adjusted.
