These countertops are so cheap. Its amazing. I live in a rental and my landlord wasnt fixing the water damaged moldy countertops himself and continued to say it was fine (it was… so bad the levels of mold in the air in the countertops were no doubt extremely hazardous and illegal and the damage was from the previous tenant who was an addict and i was sick of the mold) but anyways installing laminate and cutting it is pretty darn easy to do yourself and if anyones reading this wondering if its worth it and you dont have alot of experience and need a cheap but total fix this is it. If you arent great with power tools id just suggest getting a friend to come measure and make the cuts but the rest of the process, removal, placing them back down and securing them, ... While building myself a new custom desk with Alex and Kallax for supports, I was looking for something as close to the Karlby all wood desk for the top but considerably cheaper. For almost half the price, this is the one to go for. The other reviewer is correct as the colour is noticeably warmer than the dull appearance in the photos shown here. For a more accurate colour tone, see the oak Karlby and imagine it slightly darker and warmer. Amazingly, this is just a laminate. Only when looking very closely can you tell by the wood coloured edging, which is unfortunate but for the price absolutely worth it. Also, note that a laminate top is a bit lighter than a solid wood one, so I could just barely lift it myself instead of needing help (while it looked like a breeze ... I purchased these October of 2018, wow have they exceeded my expectations. We were rehabbing our kitchen in our old Mid-Modern home floor to cealing. We found one peice of this in the discount return bin. We originally bought it as a space holder, to use as the counter bar. Well, I liked to look so much we went and purchaced more peices. With the right tools, they cut like butter, are very easy to install and they really compliment the look of the kitchen. These were an economical stop gap on the way to granite or quartz counters, and I have zero intrest in replacing them now. I just really like them. They clean easily and go with the house. Or realtor friend said, don't you dare touch them, they are fantastic.

We bought this as it gives the same look as a butcher block. However true butcher block requires maintenance where this counter does not. It has been very durable and gets lots of compliments. Love that it came with all the end pieces for finishing. It is very heavy though.
I like these countertops, which are thicker than the usual premade ones available in the US, The price is excellent. Since they are made in Europe (Italy) I presume they are at least as, if not more, free of VOCs that will offgas from the particleboard substrate. Very heavy. No built in backsplash. Not enough variation in v=colors/patterns for me to have gotten my very first choice, but quite ok.
I bought this as a temporary counter for our remodel while we save for better countertops down the road. I use it along the perimeter of the kitchen where it takes a beating being next to the sink and stove. I chose to do laminate butcher block because the maintenance is much easier vs. real butcher block. So far it has held up really well - better than the pricier "faux marble" laminate on the island that was from a big box store. There are only a couple very small scratches and I'm pretty sure they are from where our kids didn't use a cutting board, but that would be expected. I gave it 4 stars though because I think it could look more realistic and wish it came in lighter tones, but for the price it can't be beat.
Living 3 hours away from any IKEA, would need to make 6 hour trip to pick up in store or pay $300.00 delivery for $80.00 item. Finally they opened a pick up warehouse an hour away. After 4 years of Covid-19, being out of stock & high delivery. Got an lKEA counter to match BUT its quarter inch thicker & not the same pattern so installed anyway. Sadly IKEA didn’t help along the way.

The countertop itself is very thick at 1½; other particleboard counter tops are half that thickness and cost more than this! The laminate material on this countertop is amazing. It looks exactly like the real thing (butcher block). I am using this for my desk, using two drawers on each side. I will need to buy a leg to support the middle, but otherwise, this is awesome all around. Save yourself (more than) a few bucks and get this. Laminate is also easily able to be cut-to-size with a jigsaw and T101BR blade. Gerton is the ONLY countertop that is all wood; no particleboard. It is unfinished and would need to be sealed with polyurethane or an oil. You could also opt to stain the Gerton before sealing it. This option is best if you need a shorter, but deep desk (it is 59 long by 29.5 deep) and want the option to maximize the ability to customize the top itself. Karlby is nice, but it is spendy and you should note that a wood veneer is the same material as this (particleboard) with around 1/8 of real wood on top. The Karlby comes pre-finished.
Unbeatable value in the UK market! Good quality and well packaged. Only minor issue that I had was that the edge was not perpendicular to the top on some - 88 degrees, rather than 90. Makes no difference in normal use, but need to be aware of this if stripping edge covering to make a corner joint. Can't comment on the heat resistance of the surface, but having all sides finished offers great versatility
So I went on a tirade buying, trying and returning approximately 10-15 stains to match this Saljan peice because ikea does not sell any compatible backsplashes. So I did buy a butcher block backsplash from HD and stained it with their Varathane Golden Oak Wood Interior Gel Stain and it pretty much matched the color of the saljan countertop perfectly. Apply and remove the stain fairly quickly for a more closer match and test it on remnant peices (of the same wood type as your backsplash) before applying to the real backsplash. I am merely just saving the rest of you the headache of finding the right stain for those needing a backsplash to go with this countertop.
