We bought our first Strandmon a few years ago for a study/bedroom because my daughter loved the vibrant yellow to give her room a pop of colour. Little did we know that the chair would become the most popular seating in the home. It's perfect for reading, curling up in front of TV and just lounging. When outside of the box, this chair can be transported in a small sedan. The upholstery is not too soft and not too hard. A small or medium sized person can sit in it sideways and have the feet up. It is very comfortable with or without the stool. Now, many years later, even though the fabric has withstood the test of time, we decided to buy a cover as the chair has migrated to another room. Picked this chair up a few weeks after sitting on it in store and falling in love with how comfortable it is. I read many reviews to make sure I wasn't making a faux pas and buying something that wasn't up to standard for a house full of kids and animals but was NEARLY put off by the reviews of how difficult this thing was going to be to put together. I read claims of 2+ hours of build time, returning the chair, misaligned pieces, and poor quality construction but thankfully experience none of this. The hardest part was fitting the (bigger than I had anticipated) box in the van I had forgotten to empty, before venturing to the shop but years of Tetris practice ensured I made it home with the chair. Assembly was very straightforward and took less than half an hour ... MorePicked this chair up a few weeks after sitting on it in store and falling in love with how comfortable it is. Now I have a chair by the window to sit in and read and be nosey watching the neighbours come and go and I can't think of anything better! Thank you

Now that it is put together, I love this chair. It's beautiful, the fabric feels lovely and the chair is comfortable. I really like the high back, it feels very supportive on my neck and I look forward to many evenings curled up in it. However, I will never buy another one because I simply refuse to put myself through assembling it ever again. I basically live in an IKEA catalogue and assembled everything myself problem-free up until now. I actually cried in frustration trying to get the wings to hook on properly - when I did, the bolts only lined up with the holes through what felt like an hour of pushing and pulling and begging and even then they're barely tightened. So, I love it now but I'd advise buying pre-assembled. It's expensive so didn't seem worth it ... MoreNow that it is put together, I love this chair. I got the yellow. Good thing I have a socket wrench set, the 2 bolts that put the 2 straight screws (to attach back and bottom) are one size too large- literally fall right down the screws, cannot thread b/c TOO BIG- went to the local ace hardware to get the correct size bolts. Also the tool they include to tighten the bolts, DOES NOT EVEN FIT THE BOLTS - not even the correct bolts I bought- NOR the 4 long bolts that put the R&L sides on. YA, good thing I have a socket wrench set. Putting the right arm on was very difficult b/c it’s not equal to the other, and the piping at the back top side is not rounded neatly like the other side, looks a bit flat… and there was more of a gap between the right side and bottom front piece. Too much hassle to bring back, I live 2 ... MoreI got the yellow. Too much hassle to bring back, I live 2 hours away. I must say, this incorrect parts business really made me not like this chair so much. The strong smell of composite wood parts underneath is making me very mad right now too, I think this is off- gassing.
I bought two of these with a Parup couch. Within 30 days I had to do a defective exchange for a new Parup. The replacement Parup is also defective and IKEA will not replace. The two chair I bought with the defective Parup are okay, but just like the Parup, they're extremely low quality. The fabric is extremely low quality, which makes sense since IKEA sells replacement covers at inflated prices. The arms rests are hard and sharp, but they look nice at least.Overall, IKEA is taking a new approach of low quality products and selling replacement parts at high prices is starting to show.Shop elsewhere.
The bolt holes/attachment points that attach the side arms did align, resulting in difficulty assembling, non-symmetrical seams, and a few unsightly gaps. The buttons are also attached poorly (they are not stitched, just held on by elasticized strong), so two of them hang out slightly, making it look a bit shoddy. Overall it’s quite comfortable, and it looks decent in low light or at a passing glance; but for an experienced woodworker, assembly was extremely frustrating, and because I know it’s there, I see the parts where the chair doesn’t align properly; makes it look a bit like a cheap Walmart purchase. I could send back, but being 400 km from the nearest store makes that a pain. At some point I may redrill the holes for a better fit - but that shouldn’t be ... MoreThe bolt holes/attachment points that attach the side arms did align, resulting in difficulty assembling, non-symmetrical seams, and a few unsightly gaps. We love the style and corduroy fabric of this chair, but we note two gaps: the lack of color choice in the corduroy and the inadquate padding and shaping of the arms. We originally were interested in the houndstooth fabric until we saw it in person (it looked cheap), but the corduroy feels great. It's jut not quite the shade we wanted. The armrests should have a flat top, not just the edge of the wood frame, and far more padding all the way to the back of the chair. I'm afraid we'll have to devise a pad for each arm to keep it comfortable for the long run. I will recommend this with qualifications/caveats.
This chair looks very cool, I bought the yellow one over a year ago and it has held up well. The chair feels comfortable for a good 30 minutes on it, but after that it starts to feel very uncomfortable in the back rest, it is so upright and it could be more slanted back for a better resting position. The legs are very bad and it's very easy to assemble uneven as this chair is uneven on the floor, meaning on leg is always in the air and it rocks back and forth for that reason. I also paid $350 + taxes and I feel disappointed at the quality. This is not a chair to seat on all day, is more of a quick chat seat.
Overall I am happy with the product. The fabric, we chose the beige corduroy effect fabric, has lovely feel to it and seems quite durable. It is no work of art, but for the money, it is lovely, honest, comfortable little chair.
I loved the green velvet and bought one for our bedroom as a reading chair for myself. It’s comfy and a lovely shape and is looked after very well. However, every time I sit on it, another mark shows on the fabric, be it the imprint from my dress or my arm on the armrest. The mark then stays and is evident as it’s white. This is very disheartening and has ruined my very pretty chair.I’m confused as I didn’t see any marks left on the showroom chair. I’ve even been back and asked Ikea how long they have had their showroom chair on display and the lady said it had been there for months. It’s completely free of any white marks after many people sitting on it.I’m going to have to take mine back to Ikea I think and follow this up.
