It's a high-speed fine-grain panchromatic film, exactly as advertised. I shot two rolls: one at sunny f/16, the other using aperture priority, and they both came out just as good, leading me to believe it has good exposure latitude. It's cheaper than T-Max 400, and personally I think it looks better. No-brainer.

Pulled out an old Leica M6 recently, to give film a try all over again. Ordered this Delta 400 roll and a roll of 400 Tri-X. Liked them both but this Ilford roll a little better. Results were great, with great tonal range and the perfect amount of grain. I'm back in the 'film' business again now.

I am a student in Photography and I use this film all the time. I have used this film in almost every lighting situation. I have found that this film works really well with slow shutter speeds. However, I took some portraits one afternoon and they came out really grainy. I was using old darkroom equipment and a stock solution of D76 development so that may have had something to do with the grain. Either way, I am not a portrait photographer so that did not bother me too much. Overall a great film. I highly recommend it.

I've shot a lot of 400 speed film from Tri-X and Agfapan 400 to HP-5 but never had tried Delta 400 so, I thiought I'd give it a try. It seems to have all the attributes of FP-4 while retaining the 400 speed. What's not to like about that? I developed it in ID-11 1:1 for ten minutes and rated at ASA 250. The negatives looked good but a bit dense so, time will be cut somewhat next time. This seems a superb film for those wanting the box speed of 400 but not the usual grain associated with it. I'm still going to try it with HC-110 and see how the results vary. Experimention is the key to a new film but I think this is a clear cut winner.
Ilford Delta 400 is a great all purpose b&w film. It's more forgiving than the 100, which makes it an ideal choice for someone dabbling in film photography. Ilford is the only brand I purchase.
I use this as my go to b&w for street photography. The contrast on this film is really deep and produces very dramatic photos which is something I really enjoy about it. Something to think about if you're new to shooting film and really want black and white, this can't be processed at your local 24 hour photo center and will cost a bit more to get developed. If thats something that's going to bother you, check out the Ilford XP2.
I use this film in 35mm format and process it in XTOL. I am very happy with the way it captures tones from shadows to highlights and does it with minimal grain. I also noticed that it dries flatter than Tri-X. he only con is that it's more expensive than Tri-X.
Great film, they each have their uses and I do come back to this one quite a bit. You can't go wrong with Delta 400. Clean and crisp
A solid and reliable fine grain 400. My go-to for general black and white work. Dries flat and forgiving in the dev process.
The film is easy to process and doesn't come out from drying with streaks. Performs as I need it to. Very consistent results. Easy to load, and durable. Very Sharp images, captures what I see through the camera.
