Good Paper for Book Making.

The 'retooled' Ilford Multigrade paper is more sensitive to contrast changes. It gives a brighter white and good tonal range. For my work I find I can work 1/2 contrast grade lower than the previous paper. This gives me more control in the darkroom.I make limited edition, handmade photography (aka: artist) books. These are traditional hardbound, inkpress printed pages with the photos 'tipped' into the book page. The small paper size works for the overall size of the book. I save time by elimination the need to cut paper to size in the darkroom. The pearl surface finish complements the texture of the handmade paper I use.

As far as the quality of the paper and how it performs, its totally fine. No complaints there. I just don't like the finish. I usually go for the pearl finish but I thought I'd try the satin this time. Not really digging it. Makes the print look plasticky and the blacks aren't as deep. Probably shouldn't have purchased a 100-pack.

Gorgeous printed up in the higher grades. I shot a portrait and printed the images up at grades 4 & 5. Lovely rich black and clean whites. Beautiful paper with a sumptuous glossy finish

Very good introduction paper.
28 July 2023

I recently learnt how to darkroom print (great fun!) and this was the paper they used, so I purchased some for future darkroom work. While I can't say that I have experimented with the full available range of darkroom papers, this paper was durable and very easy to handle. The pearl finish is perfect and subtle. The only reason that I have not given this paper 5 stars is because I am dubious about its performance for displaying art. If you just want to see how the image looks printed and add it to a portfolio box then this paper is perfect. However, if I wanted to make a darkroom print and get it framed for display, I think there are probably more premium papers that could be used. Nonetheless, great darkroom paper that I'll continue to use.

[Rewarded Review] Excellent Enhancements
28 November 2019

The next generation of this series produces outstanding prints with deeper blacks and slightly wider dynamic range. I found it to be noticeably faster than version IV, but quite manageable after adjusting the exposure times. To my eye it appears very close to the glossy FB. I will not live long enough to test its archival permanence attributes so for those looking for that comfort the FB may remain the standard. However, for ease of use for those making prints for their own use this paper may be practically equivalent. I look forward to BH carrying the other sizes, which Ilford's web site says is available.

[Rewarded Review] Great Photo Paper
17 January 2024

This paper is easy for beginners or pros to use. I teach Darkroom Photography at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art in Augusta, GA. I use it with the beginning classes. It's forgiving and adjustable for any type of negative they produce.

[Rewarded Review] Great Value option for beginner darkroom printers

If you just got into darkroom printing, like me, this is the way to go. For not that much money, you get 100 small sheets to experiment with. And when you finally get the hang of it, the results really are stunning.Would recommend the Pearl over Glossy, it's more understated, but your preferences may differ.

[Rewarded Review] It is what it is

It's great Ilford paper, just in a small format. Perfect size paper for when a contact sheet doesn't give you enough detail to make a good comparison between shots you may want to print larger, or when you just want a print to scan (can be useful when dealing with difficult to scan film, or you want to tone or do some other darkroom experimenting). It's just a shame they don't offer fiber base paper in this format.

[Rewarded Review] Simple and Easy
31 March 2022

I use this paper for test prints, and they're great: versatile, simple, easy. The size is perfect for getting a better sense of a negative and what a larger print's process will entail. The luster is between a matte and a glossy, so it feels classy and substantive. Image dries noticeably darker than when wet, so keeping that in mind when printing might be useful.Great service from B&H, as always: fast delivery, as promised.

Multigrade is a trademark of Ilford, which means it is a type of black and white paper developed by them that allows the user to obtain five different grades (and half grades) from a single sheet of paper. The advantages of buying such a type of paper are obvious from a cost-saving viewpoint but it also gives the printer the chance to experiment with the chosen negative to give the best possible effect if you need an increase or decrease in contrast. The advantages of buying such a type of paper are distinct from a cost-saving viewpoint. Still, it also gives the printer the chance to experiment with the chosen negative to provide the best possible effect if you need an increase or decrease in contrast. Ilford still offers the most comprehensive choice on the market with most of their paper available in the three surfaces of Glossy, Pearl (silk with a slight sheen), or Satin (matt sheen, which is only an option with the regular paper). Ilford's new Multigrade RC Deluxe is a 190gsm, Resin Coated (plastic coating) paper with a slightly warmer base tint than its predecessor as well as better blacks, improved mid-grade spacing and better toning qualities. To use Multigrade paper properly, you need a set of Multigrade or equivalent filters to set your required grades (without filters all Multigrade papers will print as a grade 2). You can use our filters with Ilford or Ilford's as required. Ilford also makes specific developers for each type of Multigrade paper on offer, meaning you can even better results for your prints.
