Exceptionally simple, yet deceiving sophisticatedly functioning machine. Much better than the competition out there as far as taste and quality of final product. The steaming wand is simple and effective, the descaling function is exceptional and the automatic nature of the unit makes it available to a greater number of espresso lovers. Some aspects of QA could need minor buttoning up, but the service provided by Illy’s staff overrides virtually any issue.

Bought this for Father’s Day. Expecting quality and it’s the BIGGEST piece of junk. When you press the cup to make an espresso, water comes out of the frother. My children have almost gotten burned several times. I’ve called and despite what’s been recommended, no changes. When I finally can get an attempt at an espresso, the machine is loud, shakes, and slow in drip process. DO NOT BUY THIS. There’s so many better options. What a disappointment illy.

I just bought the machine last month. I love the test of the coffee. That’s why I bought machine but it’s take time too long for machine to reset for next cup. It’s taking longer when after I did warm milk and want to do next espresso. I need to turn off the machine and wait for couple minutes to turn on. So I decided to return it but when I went to post office, the cost of return is $160!!!! That’s crazy. I called customer she said customer have to pay for shipping cost. I learn from this case to check good with return policy. I was planning to buy coffee every month but now I think I will support others brands.

I have really enjoyed the espresso that this machine puts out. It is delicious and convenient. The machine only takes a minute or two to heat up, so it's perfect for use before work in the morning. Having the steamed milk arm is really nice as well. I love the portafilter pod container! It's just for looks, but there's something about it that I really enjoy. The only thing that takes a little getting used to is the limited user interface. There's only 3 buttons, and moving around between the different modes is not difficult, but it does take using it once or twice to get the hang of it. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this machine for daily espresso.
Great coffee. We own lavazza, Nespresso machines as well, but best coffee is Illy’s. I wish I could use their pods on some other machines.Bad design, the water container is leaking if it is not properly connected to the machine and there no clear way to know that you have connected it properly or not.
I love this machine. If you're concerned about extra waste using the capsules vs. grounds in a reusable, I've read there are options available online. I purchased the "Back To School" collection to sample Illy's own espressos, and I'm delighted!I love the simplicity of operation, the perfect crema on my espressos, but also, the ability to easily make cappuccinos, and, cafe au lait.
Thank you for changing my broken machine to a new one for free. My machine started making terrible coffe after 6 months. It became very bitter. And the milk frother stopped making foam, but only heated the milk. I wrote to support and done everything by instructions. It didn't help. So they decided to study ny machine and give me a new one. The coffee is tasty again
Nice little machine I bought for the boat. I have the bigger one at home. Only big difference operationally wise, is that you have to make the espresso first then the milk. My other machine has a hot water selection that allows the machine to cool down to the espresso temperature. This one does not They both have the same steam wands, on this machine with it's smaller base, it is easier to withdraw the milk pitcher without spilling foam.
My previous experiences with Illy espresso machines has generally been satisfactory but the X7.1 is a bit of a disappointment. There are two minor design flaws. The water reservoir is difficult to remove and the steaming wand to short to use comfortably when steaming milk in a large pitcher. I like to serve friends cappuccino, so I steam enough milk in a large pictcher for them. If I steam the milk first, as illy suggests, the X7.1 takes a very long time to cool to the point where I can brew coffee. If I brew the coffee first the espresso has cooled by the time the machine is ready to steam milk. I very much preferred the Francis Francis I had before I bought the X7.1
I purchased this after several years with the predecessor model that eventually cracked in the body, affecting the brewing pressure. The steam wand worked for maybe a week before the plastic part would no longer stay connected. I still use this for brewing because I like the capsules. However, the descaling function has never worked. The light flashes, but the descaling program will not start. Impossible to descale the machine. Really disappointed with this machine.
