Illy Intenso Dark Roast Ground Coffee

This is italian caffè, made with whole bean coffee Arabica. When you open the tin you can smell already coffee aroma very strong, inside the tin there is coffee powder. To prepare italian caffè, you will need the moka where you put water, inside the filter you put coffee powder, then close the moka and put on the gas. When the water boils, it goes into fhe filter and finally the caffè comes out, you will need small cups as italian caffè is very strong , you have to add some sugar and coffe is ready to be drinked. This coffe is very energetic and will make you very active, italians. Usually italians drink caffè in the morning and after dinner because is digestive. Another tip: some people when have head ache they just drink a caffè because the caffeina is pain killer!

Don't Spill the Beans

I have now been able to compare Illy to another coffee that I now prefer. Although the taste is acceptable I find the beans not so. The grinder on my coffee maker got clogged more frequently than with another coffee. The cans never popped when I opened them as though they were 'old' and the vacuum wasn't there anymore unlike the cans I would occasionally buy in a store when I went through more coffee in a month than normal. All in all Illy is just okay and the price on a subscription basis is appropriate.

I have a Breville Barista Express Espresso, so I test out coffee beans often from different source/brands to see it’s taste, quality, freshness, aroma etc. This specific product, this batch was delightful, I must say; it really made my day with its taste. Reminded me of why I love coffee so much and why I bought a Breville Espresso machine. I did a double shot Americano, filled the portafilter basket to the top pressed well, leaving just enough room to tightly seal into group head. The shot came out perfectly well, just right, poured slow with a strong fresh grind aroma mmm. Anywho, I give it 2 thumbs up, definitely will buy and would recommend

NOT for Semi Automatic espresso machines!

These beans are very different from prior years. Dark, oily finish that jams semi-automatic espresso machines. Every year at the holidays I purchase these and as expected within 1 grind my machine jammed and I had to tear it apart to clean out the oily bean mess.Support did assist me in selecting and replacing with Medium Roast - it's good but noticeably different taste and smell from what I used to purchase before.I know you use many suppliers but that's your job to help customers sleect the best Illy product for an application. It's like your company reformulated and forgot to recalibrate the message for customers. A note on the product page saying what it is suitable for and what it is not suitable for is necessary. New customer

I’m annoyed by another famous coffee company that’s known around the world so I decided to try to find “the best Italian coffee” that I could brew at home (went to Italy in high school and the coffee was amazing). I found this company and another. Read the reviews of Illy and decided to order the dark roast and extra dark roast.I think the shipping took a little long, my order was shipped on the 5th day and got the order 3 days later..why would it take 5 days to ship my order? It like others, the cans arrived dented, not horrible but I would think bubble wrap instead of stuffing paper?In the meantime waiting for my order to arrive I did find the coffee at Super Target and Whole Foods. I bought the dark roast Intenso not realizing it was for espresso preparation and not drip brew. I made my first cup and was amazed by how smooth was! Like others said it is NOT bitter, tastes like coffee but goes down like water. I didn’t realize other coffee have an acidic burn on the throat when I drink it. This coffee is dark, but not overpowering. I’m trying to get away from using cream in my coffee and I think I will be able to do it with this coffee because it’s smooth and delicious. one thing I want to point out is that since I bought the espresso preparation in store and then saw the drip brew when it arrived, there is no difference in the grind. I believe they are the same coffee but labeled different. If there is a difference in grind, it’s so minimal you can’t tell with the naked eye. If you drink this and find the espresso preparation in store, it’ll taste the same.The extra dark roast however, it is very smooth and not bitter, but for me it’s too much. It’s smokey and tastes like roasted chestnut. Maybe I just need less compared to what I use for Intenso.What I also didn’t realize is that this is not 1lb coffee like coffee is typically sold as in the States, so this is expensive in comparison. I’m not disappointed at all with my choice

Not very robust or flavorful

After hearing and reading about silly brand coffee I was looking forward to trying, but after tasting I was disappointed. It tasted like a cheap American coffee e.g. Folgers. It wasn’t bad - it’s still coffee - but the flavor profile was very flat. It wasn’t rich or robust tasting, had little depth or character, and was just underwhelming. Wouldn’t not recommend it to someone, but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone either.

Seconds

Seconds. And I don't mean, I'll have another. More than half the cans in my order were dented -- and the pull-top broke off all of them. Difficult and dangerous to open (an easy cut.) And the coffee was inconsistent in flavor and texture. The first time anything like this has happened in my 25+ years drinking illy. Very disappointing, to say the least.

The "classic" (pun intentional) Illy taste!

I absolutely love this coffee. I grind my own beans for use in pour-over and AeroPress single-coffee brews. I also use these beans in my Gaggia Accademia super-automatic espresso machine. I get consistently great results with my coffees using Illy Classico beans. Smooth. Never bitter. Medium to Full Body. and, of course, GREAT FLAVOR! Yes, it is Arabic bean and, yes, it is expensive, but I am absolutely hooked on it.

The CAN EXPLODED INTO MY EYES

Be extremely careful of this product! The can exploded into my eyes and caused me serious troubles including eye injury and cornea trauma. I know there was a recall for the whole beans cans back in 2018! but this happened recently to me and with the ground coffee can. I would NEVER EVER buy illy coffee again. I am starting the process of filing complaint with appropriate consumer safety organizations in the US.
