Works great and we love the instant hot water, but these units are mostly non-repairable with a life of 8-10 years before they leak and need to be replaced. I'm on my third in 20 years. Good news is they haven't changed and a new one drops in in less than five minutes. After the last one started leaking, so I took it apart and traced it to a gasket that had hardened and developed a split. Of course, it was a specialized gasket around the thermostat not available to order from the manufacturer or third-party. Had I been able to order one, I could have fixed the tank for less than $10 and it would have been good for another 10 years, as the tank itself was in perfect condition. Instead, I spent $300 for a new tank. The hot water is nice, though.

Good product, good price, a little difficult to install.
28 December 2022

Great product but a little difficult to install. I have granite countertops and the screw that projects from the bottom of the tap is about 1/4" shorter than what I think it should be. My son and I were able to get the "nut" on but it was not as easy as it should have been.I know that every installation is different but it would have been nice for the product to include at least a couple of basic parts for installation; it comes with no plumbing parts at all; you either need to know how to do the plumbing yourself or hire a professional. Fortunately for me, my son and I are quite handy and he is pretty good at plumbing.

Product never gets better

We built our house new in 2005. We purchased our first inSinkErator and unfortunately for us not our last.We have had to replace it 6 times!! Yes, six inSinkErator's.We switched to a Westinghouse brand and got only 2 years out of that one.Had no choice and had to get another inSinkErator October of 2022 as we could not find any other brand. This inSinkErator lasted 5 months!!!!This brand has got to be the absolute worst in all aspects. My husband is a commercial contractor and knows how to install this product so before anyone claims that is the issue, I assure you it is not.Now we are off to find another brand so I can have my Tea/coffee.

The biggest hurdle in installation was that the water line input has to be connected with the 1/4" copper line for the unit. I've done my own plumbing for our rentals for many years and I've never had to work with 1/4" copper before. It can be challenging if you've never done it, because you have to tighten the connections just right, but not too tight. The first time we left it overnight it leaked from the unions I had installed to get the line to reach the incoming water connection. The other challenge was getting our water line under the sink to incorporate an output that accomodated a 1/4" connection. If you want a separate shutoff valve for the instahot, you have to use a 1/4" "needle valve", not your traditional quarter-turn larger valve. This is the third InSinkErator hot water system I've had to replace in five years. The first one had the handle break off. The 2nd one, from just over a year ago, was the HOT100 model (very similar to this one) and the push button switch jammed and we could never unjam it to turn off the flowing hot water. The tank was still good so we decided to take a 3rd chance and bought this newer twist handle model to replace the HOT100 because we could keep and use the old tank still installed. This was a mistake to trust InSinkErator a third time. We swapped out and replaced the faucets fairly quickly and then turned on the water. This was a mistake to trust InSinkErator a third time. We swapped out and replaced the faucets fairly quickly and then turned on the water. Sure enough, water starts spraying from a small pinhole leak under the sink where the copper tubing is welded inline with a blue PVC tube. I had to uninstall the faucet to see that the FACTORY WELDED copper joint had a small pinhole crack. POOR quality work. Not only that but I compared this HOT150 design with the older HOT100 design and InSinkErator tried to save fifty cents per product by using this cheap factory weld job instead of using the more secure and safer double copper compression fitting like on their older HOT100 model. Essentially, they reduced their manufacturing costs but then passed the higher risk of product failure along to the customer. You can take your chance with this model. It is a great design ABOVE the sink. However, below the sink is a risk. If you happen to get a good one that doesn't leak then make absolutely sure that you never bump your undersink garbage can or other items into the copper piping hanging below the back of the sink. You're likely to cause a crack in the welding and possibly create a new water leak. Oh, and plan on a possible quick drive to the hardware store. InSinkErator Quality Control didn't include the necessary copper compression fitting for us to hook this up right out of the box.

[Rewarded Review] Attractive Dispenser

Over the years I have owned several different model Insinkerator instant hot water dispensers, installed in different residences. In general these have all worked well, although the life expectancy of the tanks has sometimes left much to be desired. This latest acquisition was necessitated by a broken handle on the old dispenser (a different Insinkerator model) – which was installed over 10 years ago – so yes, in this case the old unit lasted a long time!I like that the stainless metal finish of the dispenser faucet complements my satin stainless sink faucet and the charcoal color of my sink very nicely and it easily fit into the standard sink mounting hole (see picture). Mounting the unit into the counter and to the reservoir and water line (see picture) was reasonably easy -- I have moderate DIY plumbing experience, and it would have taken me about 20 minutes to complete, except that I needed to return to the store to get an extension for the copper line in order to reach my water supply line (I think the copper tube built into the unit is just too short for many situations -- another 6” of copper line was all that was needed to complete the job). I know from my own past experience, installation time is largely a function of the ability to reach the deck under your sink (I have a large double sink, with pretty good under-cabinet space to move around). The unit heated up quickly (5 minutes at initial startup), and provided ample hot water for most purposes. Dispensing water was easy, just turned the small lever (see picture).I am moderately disappointed by the 1-year (in-home) warranty that comes with this unit, as it suggests the manufacturer is not overly confident of the product's reliability. In my mind, this is a fairly expensive product that in normal situations gets rather limited use, and it deserves better particularly as the manufacturer states it has a stainless steel tank. I have reduced my rating to 4-stars to reflect this limitation, particularly since my prior experience with similar units made by Insinkerator was in some cases, disappointing – that the unit it replaced lasted so long was I think, unusual. One word of caution to DIY buyers who are installing a unit like this for the first time: before you leave the store with your new dispenser, be sure you have a compression T-fitting that is compatible with the supply line of this unit, because it is not included with this product and you will need one to install this dispenser; otherwise, you will probably find yourself heading back to the store to get one. Also, if your water supply line is located more than about 15” from the dispenser location, you may need to purchase materials to extend the line as I did.I just installed this unit today, and on the basis of this limited period of use I would recommend the product to others.

[Rewarded Review] Easy to install and can be used wherever there is a cold water supply and an electrical outlet. Will pay for itself in a few short years. No leaks.

The Insinkerator stainless steel tank holds 2/3-gallon (about 2.5 liters) of piping hot water, which is delivered instantly from the included single-handle faucet. The tank is very compact and can be hang-mounted inside the cabinet under the sink, unlike other larger units that are better suited for a basement installation. Installation instructions and supply lines are included, but my unit did not include fasteners to mount the tank. The included instructions are well-written and detailed, with accurate illustrations guiding you through each step of the installation process, including installation of an optional pre-filtration system (not included). Installation instructions and supply lines are included, but my unit did not include fasteners to mount the tank. The included instructions are well-written and detailed, with accurate illustrations guiding you through each step of the installation process, including installation of an optional pre-filtration system (not included). A continuous source of electrical power is required to power the heater, so if you don’t already have a 110V GFCI receptacle running on a 15A or 20A circuit installed inside your cabinet, you will need to install one, or have one installed by a licensed electrician. Allow about 2 hours for installation if an electrical outlet is present at the location and 3+ hours if not. A 1.25-inch hole in the basin is required to mount the faucet, but if you don’t want to drill another hole in your sink or countertop, you can substitute the side sprayer or soap dispenser with the included faucet. Water temperature is adjustable from 160-200-degrees F water which, when set to the highest temperature setting, is just shy of boiling, and is the optimal water temperature to make coffee and tea. Installation is easy and straight-forward, and requires only a very basic knowledge of plumbing. The faucet is very limited in terms of finishes, and the styling is modern, so if you are particular about the finishes in the kitchen matching, this faucet may not work for you. I used to waste approx. 1 gallon of water each morning trying to get hot water from a natural gas hot water heater located in my basement, which translates to hundreds of gals. of wasted water each year. Multiply that by a family of 4 and the amount of water wasted is fairly substantial. With this water heater, up to 60 cups of piping hot water is delivered instantly with no waste. A great addition to the sink that makes short work of cleaning dishes, utensils and bake pans, but I wish the faucet was available in more styles and finishes.
