Great for multi tasking and can be good for gaming if the game doesn't require more than 3.0ghz, this cpu isn't designed for gaming. better to go with the i5 8600k or an i3 with a better base clock for gaming. extra cores are mostly wasted in games like destiny 2 and even to some extent doom 2016.

Brilliant cpu for anyone who isn't worried about overclocking. It comes with a very respectable clock speed already. But at just 200mhz higher than the 8400, the difference in real world performance is a wash. Maybe save a few bucks and get the 8400. Unless you're like me, and just HAD to have that 3.0ghz base :)
We bought this CPU for my son's custom built gaming machine. Originally I was skeptical about Core i5 performance and I was wrong. The 8 series outperforms its predecessors and works very well with the budget Graphic Cards AMP RX570. Brilliant product.
Looking for a CPU for my first build in years - the 8500 struck the balance between price and performance.If you like higher numbers or making said numbers crawl slightly higher yourself, maybe go for the 8700K. Otherwise, the performance benefits between the series seem to be marginal (unless you're generating huge world in Dwarf Fortress, which I am).
This item said used very goo condition I'm pretty sure someone purchased the wrong item opened and noticed and returned this thing was brand new imo all three of them were. shipped and arrived quickly fit my btc360 motherboard no issues. I am very happy with my order all around thanks Nemix
So coming from a guy who reverted after being with AMD for nearly 7 years I knew from experience that Intel CPUs were better than AMD in certain aspects but jeez Louise I was so shocked to see how solid the cores are in comparison. I overclocked my fx to 4.5ghz the 8500 happily will sit at 3.5 to 4.1ghz and easily out perform my old CPU with my GTX 980.I went for AMD originally because of bang for buck but I honestly am over the moon, not only is the i5 8500 powerful but compatibility and feature wise it smashes my old pointy CPU all over the court, I know its a lot newer but still, I paid the same price 5 years ago for my fx 8320 as I did for my i5 now.Price is very reasonable too as i feel this CPU will last me a while!
Way too expensive imo but what i needed for my mining mobo
Upgraded from i5 4690 to blazing fast single and multi-core performance, great thermals and low power consumption.If hyperthreading and overclocking aren't must-have features for you, I'd highly recommend the i5 8500 as the value-for-money processor of choice over the higher models (8600 or 8700).
