I tried using a quality air cooled dual tower air cooler at first, and whilst it did the job, during any gaming sessions the CPU fans were usually at ~70% of their speed (~1300 RPM) and struggling to keep the CPU below 75⁰C. This issue went away after using a quality AIO, but it's quite annoying that I now need to worry about another component failing within the lifetime of the CPU.If they're at a similar price point, I'd probably recommend going with am AMD ... I have a 360 AIO cooler on it and tweaked the fan and pump speeds and don't get any thermal throttling with the package running up to 250W. I have swapped the stock retaining bracket on the motherboard for a contact frame based on reviews and recommendations. Overall I'm very happy and would stick with this CPU if I had to get another.

Here is whay I think of the 14700K and its Sibling the 14900k . 1st and foremost dont overclock it It is fast as you can get it in fact I would underclock it and Undervolt it. We all know heat kills electronics but to put 400 watts plus on a computer Chip is insane . I killed a 3770 k by overvolting . I have never killed a cpu because of heat in fact they start throtling when the Heat is on. The problem here is If you need productivity then get the 14900 K buy gaming @ say 5.4 Ghz on all P cores is more than ebought to keep up with 4090 RTX and have all settings to maxOf you only game the 14700 k os the same thing just less cores .Both of them are beast just make sure you undervolt if not you will fry them

I then spend tons of time debugging the whole pc system and finally brought the cpu to professional tech guys, the results are consistent - this is a dead CPU. I brought the CPU to BEST BUY today (March 8) and asked for a refund or replacement. They rejected it since it has pasted the 2-week due.I understand that this is BEST BUY's after-service policy, but this policy is not very reasonable and should be more flexible. Debugging a pc system is very time-consuming, since there are many aspects that need to be checked and every step requires carefulness. Policies are set by human and can be changed. But if you’re gonna be doing any kind of productivity work, the 14700k is the clear winner while only being around 3-4% slower in 1440p and 4k gaming. I got this for $380 so not much more than 7800x3d. Hits mid 50s during gaming and idles in the 30s. Actually runs surprisingly hotter than my 12900k which already ran hot. I cannot for the life of me keep working with this CPU.This brings me to say if you're thinking about buying this CPU, and are worried about the controversy of the 13th and 14th gen. Believe them, I thought it was just a minority of people who had this problem of instability with this processor, but it happened to me. And it most certainly can happen to you.If you are thinking about buying the other brand, I'd say go for it, I have heard nothing but praise for their cpus.I will never buy another intel product again.
