Upon initial inspection of the Pro set I saw they had a combination of curved blades and misaligned tangs. The so called forged blades were also not as rigid as one would expect. That being said, I sent them back as they were over $400. I moved on to the the Four star set and low and behold, the same issues. Sent them back as well. I just wasn't satisfied for what I paid on both sets. I wouldn't any money on anything Zwilling or JA Henckels as even the more expensive sets don't have any better quality or QA. My father purchased a set of Zwilling/J.A. Heckel knives for me as a gift 25 years ago and they had just started loosing their edge so I bought a new set directly from Zwilling. To say they meet expectations is to be modest. They are actually more lightweight than my original set, but I like that better. I wasn't that enamored with the chopping knife until I actually used it to chop up parsley. It's so sharp! And the serrated utility knife is perfect for the tomatoes that I cut all the time. I used to use my chef's knife for everything, but now that I have the others, I mostly use it to prepare meat and certain vegetables. Great knives. I'm planning order order the set's smaller utility knife when I have a chance.

This block at this price is the ONLY way to go. You're getting FIVE top-flight Zwilling knives, perfectly balanced, razor sharp and tough, for about half what you'd pay if you bought them all separately. PLUS, you are getting the super smooth scissors, sharpening rod, and the birch block to put it all into. The block is great because it has some empty slots to put other knives into, either some you may already love, or future ones on your wish list. Now my little steak knife has some buddies in the kitchen...and I can create a proper chopped salad again!

We just received our Four Star set of German made knives and haven't had a chance to use them yet. We purchased them to replace the approximate same set we have used for over 10 years, which have served us well, however I lost my favorite serrated knife from the set which I used almost exclusively for slicing tomatoes. While trying to replace just that single knife I found that the the cost of the single knife was over $100 and for $200 (sale price) I could replace the entire set with wooden block holder so decided to do that. While comparing the old with the new I notice the blades very similar in construction but the handle material has changed and is lighter. The Scissors however, are definitely not as nice as the older set. So far I like the set. Handles are very comfortable. So much lighter than cheap knives I've used in past. Above and beyond what I expected and hope that they perform as well. I wish that Boning Knife was included instead of shears or the ability to swap out knives in set, to meet individual needs. Price was great but wish I could use discounts that were advertised online. Sign up and get 15% Off 1st purchase but never got, never got a code or anything. Almost canceled order. Still have time to send back, but kinda sad to do because they won't answer emails.

My original 4-Star 8" Chef Knife is now about 35 years old. Because I have faithfully used a steel on it, it has only required actualsharpening once, about 5 years ago. It's in daily use, and still passes the paper slicing test with ease. I have another full set in our Hawaii rental house, and they get abused, but luckily not dishwashered. I just re-sharpened those, and was able to remove several chips on the blades of the chef, santoku and prep knife and rebuild their edge with a belt sharpener and ceramic hone. That's not a fault in the knives or the steel, that's a benefit. Harder steel, like a Japanese blade, would be far more damaged in that kind of use. poor quality control. The wooden block arrived cracked at the base. Whoever inspected the crack obviously tried to fix it enough to "pass muster" using a wood filler, however the effort failed. It was a small piece, easily replaced yet caused me time to contact customer service. Also, the small serrated knife's handle had a gash in it and it looked as though it was slightly used. Once again, poor quality control. However the rest of the blades look great and was just the amount of knives needed, not too much. Overall, I am happy with the purchase because customer service rectified the issue immediately when I called.
I bought this set to give as a gift. I have personally used Four Star knives for over 30 years and love their ergonomics and find their quality to be absolute perfection. The knives included in this set are everything you need and nothing you don't. My personal set of Four Star's was put together piece by piece getting only what I needed. But my personal set includes EVERY knife included in this block. (I have a 6" Utility instead of the 5.5" Prep included in this set. But same difference. Every other knife I have is the same.) The knives included here make up 99% of what I use. I only have one knife not included in this set, a Santoku, but honestly, I almost never use it.Get this set for life. It's an unbelievable value for a fantastic knives.
There is nothing like a nice set of knives when cooking. I have used the set now for two weeks and am very pleased with the performance. I have used all the knives for everything from cutting meat, fruits, vegetables to lots of homemade bread. The blades cut well and the knife felt balanced in my hand. The only small downside I found was with the 5.5” fine edge prep knife. I used it every day, but felt that the blade was a bit thin. It wasn't a game changer, though. Definitely a great little set of knives and a bargain for this price.
