To control my adult acne, I rely on benzoyl peroxide. I use a face wash with 4-10% benzoyl peroxide twice a day, and a lotion or spot treatment with 2.5-10% benzoyl peroxide twice a day. I've been following this routine for years, starting with over-the-counter products until I recently discovered Jane Iredale's benzoyl peroxide lotion on Instagram. Although it contains the same active ingredient, this product is stronger than OTC options, which has caused excessive drying. However, I still use it sparingly because it's lightly scented and provides a decent amount of product for the price.

Active ingredient scaled my skin

I think this product should be exclusively used by consumers with chronic cystic acne. For users with a few zits the 10% active ingredient might be too harsh. After using the lotion on my chin area for 2 days in a row my entire neck and face broke out into an uncomfortable rash that lasted about a week. After the rash subsided, my skin scaled over like a lizard. After pealing off my entire face the skin underneath was good but it was 2 painful weeks of severe skin irritation before my reaction rescinded. Again I would not recommend this product to anyone with light to moderate acne, only folks who suffer from extreme acne.

Benzoyl Peroxide Lotion 10%

Benzoyl peroxide is essential in controlling my adult acne. I use a 4-10% benzoyl peroxide face wash twice daily and a 2.5-10% benzoyl peroxide lotion or spot treatment twice daily. I have been following this regimen for years. I was using OTC products until I recently stumbled across this Jane Iredale lotion on an Instagram post. I decided to give it a try and, despite listing the same active ingredient, this product is much stronger than OTC options. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it has caused excessive drying compared to my other products. I will continue to use sparingly. This lotion is lightly scented (almost an almond scent?) and a decent amount of product for the price.

Great for acne

This works to get rid of acne, especially if you use the entire Jan Marini system. I use the glycolic wash, c-esta serum, bioclear, followed by this benzoyl peroxide, then the moisturizer. I like that it keeps me fairly clear without much irritation (using too much can be too drying). In my experience, it works better for my pimples and cystic acne than whiteheads or blackheads. Also, it can discolor pillowcases, towels, and clothes (I learned that the hard way).

Pores deep cleansed, skin smooth, glowin' for days...

For years and years I was searching for an acne lotion that wouldn't leave my skin dry, red, flaky and itchy. Well I worked for a plastic surgeon for 3 years and he's the one that actually mentioned Jan Marini products. Long story short month after month I order the benzoyl peroxide acne treatment lotion 10% and it has done miracles to my skin. It's smooth. Use with extreme caution

So, I've just been reading over the reviews and I am truly mystified. People are saying that this is more "moisturizing" than other acne treatments and doesn't dry their skin out. For the record, I do not have sensitive skin. I regularly use retinol, AHAs, and lactic acid. I never have any issue with those types of products, so I selected the 10% concentration of this. I've now used it three times, each time trying to make sure that my skin is as moisturized as possible. And each time, I have been left with burns on my face. I spread it out thinly, though concentrate on the problem area. And without fail, I wake up with barely minimized acne and horrible red burns. I literally look like I've gone too close to fire, or sat in the sun for too long. I'm then left with ... MoreSo, I've just been reading over the reviews and I am truly mystified. I'm then left with the choice to either continue putting a less harmful acne treatment on my face and making the burn worse, or putting a hydrocortisone on to treat the burn but make the acne worse. Absolutely awful, I deeply regret this purchase and should have returned instead of giving it more chances. Moral of the story, patch test on somewhere you don't mind looking like a blotchy, dry mess.

When proactiv worked in your teens but not in your 30s for hormonal acne

The trick is before applying the 10% lotion apply a hydrating calming cream typically used post chemical peel. Be careful with this highly concentrated 10% benzoyl peroxide lotion...its VERY important not to apply to skin under/ around eyes. You may only need it as a spot treatment or in places you typically breakout. Ive used this regimen for 1 full day and all 4 stubborn blemishes are almost cleared. Im amazed! The acne wash in picture has the same active ingredients as proactiv yet 10% benzoyl peroxide and this 10% benzoyl peroxide lotion is similar to proactivs repairing lotion, just 4 stronger. Highly satisfied cuz a little goes a long way and super effective.

Worth it !

I got this product in hopes that it will help to prevent breakouts, clear out black heads, and purify my pours. I have been using it for a week in the evenings, and when I wake up my skin looks refreshed, and pours do seem tighter. I used to wake up and go look in the mirror for any new imperfections or breakouts, but I haven't had any new ones since using this. I also have not experienced drying yet, but I have been good about moisturizing before I put it on, as well as misting a rose water on my face after I apply this cream. I can tell its stronger than other on the spot treatments from target. I also think this bottle is a good value, and I like the dispoenser that it has in the cap to prevent excess from coming out.
