I really like how JBL upped the functionality of this smaller speaker. Previous small speakers wouldn't have extra functions like skip ahead a song, or back a song. This one does. Previous speakers would basically just have play/pause and volume. It's nice to have that if you would use this as like a shower speaker or something and don't want your phone in with you. It is rated as water proof to a degree, 30 minutes at a meter, so a shower is fine. It has a nice heavy feel and you can tell with the sound, suprisingly loud and good bass sound. I also like that you can now pair it to other speakers in it's class, creating a stereo sound. I might have to get another one to make use of that option. Really sharp look. As those are only visible through the app, I wouldn't necessarily bother with that though.Aside from the equalizer and the exact battery status indicator, I found no real use for the "JBL Portable" app.Battery life of the JBL Clip 5 is phenomenal in my opinion, i.e. very much sufficient for using it on an extended weekend trip or a vacation, without even necessarily needing to charge it.All in all, I did and plan to get a lot of use out of the JBL Clip 5 and can thus whole-heartedly recommend it for anyone in need of a small, casual mobile bluetooth speaker.

In case of Clip 5, I just end up taking it with me because it's so light and compact.The only reason it's not a perfect speaker is the same reason it's so easy to carry with you: its size and weight. The small volume of the speaker makes it very difficult to reproduce faithful bass, from an engineering point of view. Somehow, though, JBL engineers managed to make it sound bassy even being this tiny! The bass is not true to life, but it's enough. It's enough to indicate where the bass would've been in the music if it was a bigger speaker. You can tell that Clip 5 is pushing physics to its limits by how much the speaker vibrates during the lowest bass it can reproduce.Here's a tip for Clip 5 owners: put it in a corner to make bass sound almost true. It can be a corner between a shelf or table top and the wall, or a literal corner. The best results are when you place this tiny speaker on a kitchen counter in the corner. Then the bass comes to life fully, surprising everyone.Battery lasts a decent time, feels close to what's advertised. USB-C chargers are ubiquitous nowadays, so not including one is a smart move by JBL: reduced electronic waste and lower costs!The clip itself is made of metal, presumably aluminum. The gate also feels like metal, but covered in rubber. The cool thing is that the gate can be fully depressed into the slot on the speaker body, which makes the opening rather large. This makes it easier to clip and unclip it from various places.Overall, I am loving this speaker for what it is. I'll keep taking it wherever Charge 5 feels cumbersome, and whenever the bass won't seem enough, I'll just put it in the corner.

The only negatives I can find on this device is lack of ability to stand the device up or at the least on its side. You don’t need to disconnect the Bluetooth on phones already connected to it before connecting another (something that has always frustrated me with other speakers).• battery life is long, and charging is quick.• can get very loud so useful for camping outdoors, though I deducted a star because the bass can get a bit of a reverb once you turn the volume up. Pretty common with smaller speakers.• whoever designed the clip is a genius, our car radio wasn’t working so we clipped this to the sun visor and had great music without worrying it would fall off the dashboard.• I like that it’s multidirectional - speakers to the front and back so you get surround sound from it.All in all, a great little speaker and well worth what it’s retailing at, surprised? Yes I am. I really didn’t expect the quality to be that good.

The cable is short but does the trick and you must supply a wall USB-A compatible charging block yourself.The speaker is able to be connected to other JBL Portable devices thru AuraCast and the JBL app for a complete party on the go.. whether you're fishing, swimming, beaching, off-roading, partying, or just relaxing.. it just works! I did have trouble when first trying to connect the speaker to the JBL Portable App but soon discovered a quick update of the App fixed all connectivity issues.The Clip 5 does come in a variety of colors but whatever the color... this thing just ROCKS! The main use I have for the speaker is in my shower. My mornings are started with a bang from this potent little monster! Well worth every penny just as other JBL speakers I have in my collection. The JBL/Harman name is simply synonymous with quality sound and craftsmanship!
