Arrived Broken (read to save your time and money)

I received this brand new JBL Flip 6 and of course as everyone else does immediately removed it from the box and packaging and synced it to my phone. I quickly noticed a heavy crackling sound when the bass kicked in, it sounded awful at all volumes. I updated the firmware and adjusted my EQ settings to check if it was an “user error” issue, it was not. Thinking it was perhaps a loose wire or connector I opened the device and found that the plastic white housing underneath the power and Bluetooth buttons was cracked, it appeared that the screws had been over torqued from the factory causing the plastic to split. I applied a significant amount of silicone around the cracked areas of plastic and let it cure, it’s now much better. There was no indication that this resulted from a dropped box due to to the location of the damage and lack of any other damage or issues with the box and packaging. Be better JBL.

Avoid the JBL Flip 6

Made a mistake in assuming JBL would make a high-quality speaker. Our second mistake was buying that speaker from Target, since their customer service is basically nonexistent. We started using the speaker and thought the sound was OK, but something seemed off with the bass, but then we played the same songs side-by-side with our Sony Bluetooth speaker (about the same size) and noticed that the Sony sound was significantly clearer and had none of the deep bass reverb noise that was evident on the JBL. The JBL literally has a deep bass speaker rattle. Once you notice that, the speaker will drive you crazy. I’ve had problems with electronics from other stores, and generally they’ve been flexible when a product clearly doesn’t perform well. Target is the least helpful because they are so inflexible and rigid with regard to their return and exchange policy. I’m not saying that they’re wrong, I’m just saying that when given the chance to consider the problem and be helpful, they don’t step up.

Best overall speaker for the price

Very happy with my little speaker. Compact, but ultra powerful - wayyyyyy louder than my previous TDK TREK Flex. Fantastic sound for a portable of this size & relatively inexpensive with an appealing design. Battery life is long (even on high volume), as promised in the specs. I predominantly listen to audiobooks & podcasts, so volume & clarity are key - this beauty does not disappoint in either aspect. HOWEVER, if you're looking for a portable solely to play doof doof music with significant drops, this speaker may not be the right one for you - although wonderfully loud and clear, it's bass capabilities are somewhat lacking, and you'll inevitably be disappointed. So, to sum - if you're looking for something to enjoyably play bassy tunes on, perhaps stay away from ... MoreVery happy with my little speaker. But for absolutely everything else, this speaker ticks every box without fault, and I highly recommend with 5 stars.

Clear, precise, perfect Bluetooth speaker!

JBL's have excellent sound quality, are well built, precise sound with perfect bass. I also have Bose's Soundlink Flex and Color II. Bose speakers are smooth sounding with no bass punch or defined highs. Just nice sounding bluetooth speakers. I have JBL's Charge 5 and Flip 6. Both these speakers provide excellent sound quality with precise highs, mids, and bass. As you go up in size one will find more bass coming through. Not room shattering but perfect for the size of each bluetooth speaker. Excellent app for bass and treble adjustments. This was a deal maker for me as Bose does not provide this option in their app. Party mode is good on both. I have 2 Soundlink Flex's and find the stereo sound more balanced. Regardless, if I had to recommend either I would recommend the JBL's over the Bose for pure sound quality and app setup. Bose is good but just not enough sound adjustment options to assist with sound quality.

JBL Flip enthusiast approved!

Ever since the first iteration of the JBL flip, I've always found the each version to be one of the best Bluetooth speakers available. They just keep getting better and better.I was a bit hesitant to purchase the 6, because some reviewers online said there wasn't a big difference between the 5 and the 6. Trying the speakers out on the display at the store, I couldn't really tell. The 'Black Friday' deal enticed me to try out the Flip 6.Boy are the other reviewers wrong, and the in store display/demo's don't do it justice.I'm so glad JBL evolved this into a 2 way speaker. The sound is so much clearer thanks to the addition of the tweeter! This was the only change I had mentioned on my review of the Flip 5, add a tweeter! .... and they did.Now this thing is ... MoreEver since the first iteration of the JBL flip, I've always found the each version to be one of the best Bluetooth speakers available. This was the only change I had mentioned on my review of the Flip 5, add a tweeter! .... and they did.Now this thing is complete, and with the addition of the EQ feature on the 'JBL Portable' app, I have no idea how they're going to one-up this version. There isn't anything I would change regarding the sound/technology.Only minor complaint is the giant JBL logo on the grill, I miss the discreet orange square. But, I get it branding is key and it's important to distinguish between the models (which have been pretty much visually unchanged since the beginning)If I were to guess as to the changes on the FLIP 7 (not that the 6 needs anything changed); I'd say either more power, or a bigger battery. A change in the quantity or size of drivers would most likely result in a form factor change, which wouldn't fit within the product line. So I really have no idea.

Make Sure You Verify its Open-Box Condition!

I'm an indie producer, so I generally appreciate any device or medium that provide the song in the way the producer wanted the song to jam. This has a nice flat response from what I'm able to hear verses the reference tracks I use in the studio. You really are hearing a lot of small instrumentation without EQ'ing.I've heard the 5, and they are voiced the same, but this has an additional tweeter so you can get those tasty mids and high mids, which are usually left in a blah place with portables.Long story short: independent music producer and multi-instrumentalist is quite happy with the product. I have a trained ear and these sound true to production.**I did order one Open Box - Excellent. 95% of the time, that savings is decent and you are essentially getting ... MoreI'm an indie producer, so I generally appreciate any device or medium that provide the song in the way the producer wanted the song to jam.
