Love this charcoal! It burns longer than Kingsford. Can easily taste the difference in each cook. It's now my go-to for briquettes. amd lump coal. The briquettes are also bigger than usual so less is more in this case.

Clean Burning

This is great charcoal. Cost per pound is a little higher than the bargain brands, but this charcoal burns clean and has what little smoke it does have is a very 'clean' smoke,,, meaning it's not the heavy, smelly, burn your eyes and nose, smoke you get from the cheaper brands. It won't give your food the 'dirty' smoke flavor either.

Great Lump Charcoal That Never Disappoints

This lump charcoal is what lump charcoal is supposed to be. It always has large, thick chunks that burn evenly and slowly. I’ve tried many brands, but this one is consistent and fairly priced.

Holds the HEAT!

This is by far the best charcoal I’ve ever used, I’m not a professional by any stretch of the imagination but I do know what good BBQ and grilling tastes like. I’ve been only using charcoal for the past 20yrs and I love this stuff, other types and brands seem to kinda die down quickly but these hold temperatures pretty well for my liking. I’ve done ribs on my offset smoker with this charcoal and everyone’s loved the flavors and so do I! I have recommended it to all my friends!

Jealous Devil for the win!

The Max is by far the best briquette out there. Besides being twice as big as a normal briquette these are all natural as well!!I first tried Jealous Devil Chunx which I was blown away by how good this product burns. I had to try out the Max, Jealous Devil did it again!! The Max is now my go to briquette!!Way to go Jealous Devil, new customer for life!!

Large bricks as hot as big block lump coals.

I have been using these as a substitute for lump charcoal that was out of stock for a couple years now. These coals are larger and burn noticeably hotter than smaller popular briquettes like Kingsford. In my small and large Egg grill, the coals are the hottest coals, >900F without a large pile and cook evenly when prepared (make two areas in the grill for searing and grilling). If using fluid, it takes a little longer to penetrate, around 30 mins, or it will take longer in the end for the coals to get red hot and they may not cook evenly regardless of how they are spread. These coals will get you to true searing temps and even cook pizza on a hot stone at wood fired temps. These burn twice the temp a gas grill can manage. An electric starter to heat the coals white hot within 15 mins so make sure you have good grill mitts. The heat sneaks up on you so stay close especially if you close the lid. These burn white for a good 3 hours with only a nominal a layer so the bag goes farther. I am an avid griller, and these do very nicely, maybe as good as lump but I haven't done any anecdotal benchmarks. The off-scent and smoke of the coals themselves are nothing to mention comparatively. We are selective of our beef, so a good searing temp is necessary for prime cowboy steaks. I do prefer the lump coals but won't hesitate to use these. I use simple venting to reach these high temps but if I did use electric induction temp control, an Egg will easily reach >1200F (measured). Caution if using a budget grill as it can/will melt or burn the handles on the lid and sides. When finished, they incinerate any mess so I can just brush off the iron grill, vacuum and season for next time. I took a star off since these can easily char or flame if you turn your back for even a few minutes, however, I do recommend these coals and will continue to use these as I love the temps it reaches.

No good skip it. Not worth it. Ashes like crazy.

I’d give it no stars if I could. It was a good price but it ashes so bad every cook. I bought 2 bags and they were both the same. Most cooked that took 1 to 2 hours I’d have to empty my ash catcher 2-3 times. I emailed the manufacturer to let them know I was disappointed and texted them. I never heard back. I expected a little more from them as they are a more “premium” brand. I went back to royal oak lump. Nom nom.

Not so hot...

I do believe that these are made of generally better quality materials, but my experience cooking with them has been terrible. They take forever to get hot, and when they do, they crack apart and the fire dies out very very quickly (in which case your instincts are to reach for more charcoal to keep things going, but these huge things take too long to light)There's lots of choices out there for good charcoal. I had hopes for this one, but it didn't work for me and I will not choose it again.

Best briquettes %26 lump charcoal I’ve ever used. Great that it is all natural too, no extra chemicals/fillers/additives in the Max briquettes. Use them in my Weber Smokey Mountain all the time. Burns clean, hot and long with less ash than cheaper brands. Get what you pay for.

This charcoal rocks!!

These briquettes are much bigger than most charcoal bags. They burn hot and last a long time if set up right. My last "low and slow" cook I got close to 12 hours and used about half the bag or 10lbs. Goes well with a little mixture of lump and of course adding some wood chunks.
