I can blame myself for making the mistake, however the pricing and label of this product borders on deception. I was trying to avoid buying the 750ml in the plastic bottle, so I picked the glass bottle right next to it. Where I normally shop the they have both the plastic and glass 750ml. Assuming I had the right size I continued my shopping and checked out. I was distracted and didn't notice the total amount until I got home. It was then I realized I had mistakenly bought the 1liter size. Now here is where it gets worse. The price of the 1liter bottle is the same as the price for a 1.75liter bottle! So not only did I spend a lot more, I was price gouged. Lesson learned! The bourbon itself is fine...
Ah yes, Jim Beam. The famous whiskey of many dive bars. It was my first ever bourbon and it’s one that I would recommend for those getting into whiskey. Not a lot of aromatics and the taste is definitely much more muted compared to Elijah Craig Small Batch or Maker’s Mark. Still get enjoyable cinnamon-like notes and minimal caramel, vanilla sweetness. Good for the value.
3.5 stars. It's not the most tasty or the smoothest of bourbon to drink straight. But it's acceptable to drink considering its very low price. Just be sure to leave the bottle open for a while to let the air mix with it to give it a strong sweet caramel corn toffee smell. It tastes great as a mixer with a glass of iced tea-lemonade (Arnold Palmer) so that's why I always keep a bottle Jim Beam in stock.
