Bought this trying something new for me and my brothers. To my surprise we found this to be a wonderful blend. Very smooth and tasty. And the price is awesome for what it is worth. Great bang for the buck.

Back when Johnnie Walker was just Red, Black, Green, Gold, and Blue (with outliers like Pinch and other very select versions) Gold was always my favorite. With their expanding into Double Black (which I really like), Platinum, and a slew of Game of Thrones versions, it really makes the whole "discontinuing" and then "reserving" of labels seems completely like a marketing stunt by the company.Regardless, I'm pleased to find that Gold Reserve is the same fantastic Gold Label I've always enjoyed.

One of the best Johnny Walker offerings in several years. This one will NOT be put out for the guests, special sipping scotch.

JW gold is my minimum JW. Still, very smooth and drinkable. Not a very complex scotch by any means, but smooth and easy to drink neat. I'm sure would be fine as a mixer. Has a nice, mellow flavor. Nothing like red or black. I'll flip between it and Chivas 18 for this price point. Not much peat or smoke, so easy for pretty much anyone. Highly recommend.
The 18yr Walker Gold Centenary blend was one of my favorite scotches. I used to pick it up for $75-$80 in Atlanta, or sometimes as low as $50 up in Chicago. It was worth every penny. This new gold label is a different animal entirely. As far as scotches go, it's really not bad. But for $100, it's terrible. I'd put it more around the $40 price point as far as quality goes. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good substitute for the old gold. The Glenmorangie Sauterns is probably the closest, but it's still quite different. I recommend any fans of the old gold give the Glenmorangie Sauterns a try. As for this new gold label, stay away unless it's not coming out of your wallet.
Clear, gold, with uniform alcohol legs. Nose- faint cereal grain and peat. Taste- similar, with no smoke. Some honey. Medium body. Fairly quick finish. RJT
This is probably the weakest link of the Johnnie Walker offerings. On the palate, it is quite floral. I also taste vanilla, toffee, and honey, all of which taste very light, though. I am probably going to get some hate by saying this, but it tastes a little watered down to me. There is just not much going on. The finish is very short, leaving a lot to be desired. In comparison, the less expensive Green Label is a much more robust and more tasty whisky.
I bought this last week to compare it to one of my now discontinued 18 year old gold label its fair to say that its a little more rough it still uses Clynelish as it base but it is more younger aorund 12 to 14 year old. On the nose same sweet vanilla and custurd but in a more weak way same as the pallet slightly peppery and a medium finish for those who just want a once in a while good drink its ok with ice or by itself those who look for a replacment or the old 18 year old might as well spend the extra for platinum label wich is a good blend . New comers will enjoy, connosiurs will be looking for something in more quality if u want an better blend and dont break the wallet Swing is a better blend than Gold label reserve . As always total wine and more is best ... MoreI bought this last week to compare it to one of my now discontinued 18 year old gold label its fair to say that its a little more rough it still uses Clynelish as it base but it is more younger aorund 12 to 14 year old. First, as I tell my wife, life is too short to drink cheap scotch. Have tried a number of JW blends and all good, of course, but different. This Gold Label Reserve is super smooth and easy to drink. However, if you want an excellent blend with more of a "bite" or character maybe, there are others that you might prefer. After drinking this blend and then trying another good JW blend, I said to myself: "Yikes, take me back to my Gold Label Reserve!" Of course, like Snoopy said, "I am positive about anything that is a matter of opinion".
Tastes like honey. No bitterness, very smooth. It is the opposite of a Smokey whisky. Easy to drink on the rocks or neat. Good price point.
