I last used Junket when I was a kid, my Mom made it for dessert back in the ‘60’s. I found an old recipe that called for it, nowhere to be found where I live. I tried Walmart and that had it! Crisis averted!
I saw that not every recipe works with this rennet, so I made sure to use a recipe for mozzarella cheese from the booklet included with this. It works just fine, the cheese came out great. Consult your recipe to see if Junket rennet will work for it.
If you are older than 65, you might remember this popular dessert from the 50's and 60's. Then it seemed to vanish. It popped into my head a month ago, and a search revealed Walmart had it! To be honest, it does not quite taste like my memory believes it should, but it was a fun walk down memory lane. Note: I have refrained from searching what rennet actually is. Why ruin it!
Junkets work great for making old fashion ice cream. When I was a kid my dad would make Tutti Frutie ice cream with Junkets and what I delight to make it myself for my grandkids. Taste just like dads.
I bought these junker tablets because I make ice cream like my mom used to back in the 50s. She always use a junk tablets instead of raw eggs. I loved her homemade ice cream.
Absolutely loved this as a child. The product is still great and as an adult I appreciate it's multiple usage in cooking.
