Death by a thousand cuts - just too many issues

We were so excited to get this Giga 6 coffee machine since our daughter has the Z10 and loves it. We got this one because of the dual bean hoppers so we could keep decaf in one and regular in the other. It allows 100% beans of one or the other and also 25/75 or 50/50. Perfect right? The first thing we noticed was that the touch screen was so sensitive that hovering your finger over it would cause it to start making a drink. The software seemed to be extremely slow and it didn’t give a chance to cancel until it had already ground the beans- so we were in panic mode for several seconds while this was happening. The first thing we noticed was that the touch screen was so sensitive that hovering your finger over it would cause it to start making a drink. The software seemed to be extremely slow and it didn’t give a chance to cancel until it had already ground the beans- so we were in panic mode for several seconds while this was happening. Jura customer service confirmed that it will immediately grind the beans and you cannot cancel until it has finished grinding. Since we saw a lot of dry granules in the waste bin (instead of perfectly shaped pucks), we realized that it seemed to be dumping the unused grounds as soon as we chose to cancel. We went through a ridiculous amount of beans in a few days. Accidentally starting drinks we didn’t want happened a lot! Jura customer service confirmed that it’s normal for the touch screen to be so sensitive that hovering will cause it to make a drink and said it’s best to use the “wheel” on the top to rotate through the drinks for selection. However, if you use the wheel, it is only allowing you to choose from factory settings drinks and not the ones you have customized to your own taste! They heavily encouraged using the app on our phones, explaining we could customize as many drinks as we wanted and it would be less frustrating to use. Well that made sense, since the tough screen is clearly not working correctly- and they know it. In order to customize a drink on the touch screen, you touch and hold on the product you are changing or duplicating, then the customization menu comes up. Sometimes when we touched and held, it would bring up the customization menu. Other times, it wouldn’t do anything and then when you finally removed your finger, it started making the drink!Using the app was a bit easier- once we figured out how to customize drinks and save them correctly. The user interface is very clunky and difficult to navigate, but it did work better and allowed us to set a countdown number of seconds to allow for cancelling.Another frustration, exacerbated by the accidental brews, was the fact that you had no idea which beans were being ground, and in what proportions. The screen should be telling you what you are getting - especially for people who are very sensitive to caffeine and need to make sure they are brewing decaf. We literally ended up with drinks and had no idea what was in them. Of course, after the fact you could go into the customization (if the screen would work correctly to allow it) to see what that product was set to— but by then it is too late. The final straw for me was when I ordered a “2x drink” that I had set up on the app and the machine ran out of water halfway through. I added water and instead of resuming, it just stopped and I had to start another drink but I couldn’t use my “2x” drink because then it would cause my cup to overflow. Even my Keurig was smart enough to know if it didn’t have enough water to make the drink before it started!CUSTOMER SERVICE: It took a long time to get Jura customer service on the phone and they first wanted us to send it in for testing and repairs. We said “absolutely not, please send a new one”. They agreed as long as they could “get it approved” and sent us an email to respond to, with the purchase info and serial number. We were supposed to hear back from them as soon as they got the email back from us, but we never did!It makes a fantastic cup of coffee, but given the plethora of issues we experienced with this machine and Jura customer service, we had to give up and return it. We really wanted to love it, but found it instead to be a source of constant frustration and disappointment.

Holy grail of coffee makers!

My first experience with Jura was while on vacation in the Caribbean, an older model with a rotary dial...but it made the best espresso I had ever had, and I knew I must have one. I returned home and promptly ordered the newly released E8, now several years later I have upgraded to the Giga 6. My coffee obsession has reached a new level, my husband didn't think it was possible, but it has, and I have dragged him along with me into it. To touch on what your probably thinking... Yes, it is expensive. Yes, it is still just a coffee maker. BUT, it is the best coffee machine you will ever place a cup under, and with proper care and maintenance it will last you forever. Once you get the multitude of drink options dialed in to your liking, which can take a little bit of time because there are so many options, you are good to go, the machine in typical Jura fashion takes care of everything else for you, and it is a true beauty to withhold.

This is my fourth Jura. The Giga 6 produces excellent coffee; the best of all my Juras. However, there are some design flaws that could be improved. If your hands are slightly wet or greasy it’s nearly impossible to lift off the coffee bin covers. The tight seal does keep the beans fresh. But refilling the bins can be annoying. Also covering up the on/off button makes it harder to reach that button,.My machine leaked from the bottom after I set it up. The Jura customer service rep I spoke to told me that the machine is so heavy that when customers lift it out of the shipping and Jura boxes the tray underneath can break easily. She overnighted a new one to me and I received it on New Year’s Eve. Amazing! She also helped me figure out how to get just a caffeine or ... MoreThis is my fourth Jura. She also helped me figure out how to get just a caffeine or decaf drink, which we could not figure out from the manual or online searches. I’m still very happy with my purchase as I no longer need two different Juras to brew caffeinated and decaffeinated drinks.

The Z10 is a much better value
13 February 2023

Almost a year ago I purchased a Jura Z10 for our home up north, and really liked it. So later when we went down to Florida for the winter season, I wanted another one for our winter home. I was going to buy another Z10, but the GIGA 6 had come out as the new high end machine, so I bought the GIGA 6. I wish I had purchased another Z10. It is a much better value. The problems I have over and over with the GIGA are: 1) the milk system constantly clogs and has to be taken apart and cleaned in order to work, much more often than the Z10, and so much so that I’m now making more regular coffees and less cafe lattes. Also, 2) the touch screen is more sensitive (too much so). Really annoying. It makes a great cup of coffee just like the Z10, but for $3,000 more it’s not worth it. I also see that they just reduced the price to $5,999, and refurbished GIGA 6’s are available for a lot less. I wonder why? Not happy.

We love it !!
10 April 2023

Purchased in Dec 2022 so it's been a few months now. We couldn't be happier. Upgraded from Z5. Generally speaking, much the same experience except we can now have decaf beans in one hopper for one of us (not me!) rather than using pre-ground. This one much faster, especially for milk based drinks. Also does Americana style with shot followed by plain hot water (bypassing the group so it doesn't become bitter). Produces very acceptable hotter drinks which was an issue with the Z5.

It has been so fun making drinks for my friends and employees. After you get your drinks set the way you like them it is a simple push of a button to have a little heaven in a cup.I did order a milk cleaning container, but it came with one so no need for that. It also comes with the wifi chip, so you don't need to order that either. You will want to get the cool control container for the milk so you can make all the wonderful coffee drinks. No need for frothing tips. The frother is amazing! The directions tell you to read through the whole booklet before use. DO THAT! It also comes with the wifi chip, so you don't need to order that either. You will want to get the cool control container for the milk so you can make all the wonderful coffee drinks. No need for frothing tips. The frother is amazing! The directions tell you to read through the whole booklet before use. DO THAT! I wish I would have.If you have the money to spend and love coffee, go for it! You will not be disappointed.
