Saw this item on Youtube and decided to buy them due to my wife's kayak not having any scupper holes to run a locking cable through before securing to the trailer. And man am I glad I purchased them. They keep the kayak tightly secured to the trailer and have two steel cables running the length of them. Can they be defeated? Maybe. But they're definitely a great layer of deterrence and that's always a plus. I definitely recommend them. And they come as a pair.

I recently purchased a kayak & wanted some decent straps that would firmly hold the kayak in place on the top of my car & not have a fear of them coming loose.I searched the web looking for something suitable & came across the Kanulock straps sold at the Anaconda Store. I thought the tie downs were a bit expensive but after reviewing the straps on YouTube I was satisfied with the product & decided to make the purchase online.I found the tie downs were very easy to use & have a strong feel about them with the reinforced steel stainless steel inside the strap so they can’t be cut off & are also key locked for added security. Now I can feel safe the kayak will not move or a chance of being stolen.I am extremely happy with the purchase & are definitely worth the money.I ... MoreI recently purchased a kayak & wanted some decent straps that would firmly hold the kayak in place on the top of my car & not have a fear of them coming loose.I searched the web looking for something suitable & came across the Kanulock straps sold at the Anaconda Store. Sort of took me by surprise how good these were, how nice to use, first time. I have been using Thule non lockable tie-downs for 20 years and they too were and still are, great tie-downs, but with a craft I need now to lock went for these, I chose the 2.5m and being shorter, I found are very easy to thread, they accomodate my craft perfectly. As the material is heavier and plusher than most tie-downs they sit really well in situ, and hold the tension very securely, even when unlocked. Getting the 4m version next for securing a roof top bag.

The service was pompt and fuss free with A1 Roofracks, but I`m a little disappointed with the Kanulock Straps. They are strong and appear to do what they are supposed to, however once tightened they are difficult to undo. The material webbing strap won`t freely slide through the camlock because the jaws of the camlock won`t open enough and the webbing gets caught on the teeth in the cam body. I have only used these straps once and it started happening straight away and this is extremely frustrating and they are fiddly to undo. In time and with a few more uses, I suspect the material webbing strap will become frayed and absolutely impossible to use. If this is not a once off defect in the staps I bught, it is not a good design and I would not buy these straps again. ... MoreThe service was pompt and fuss free with A1 Roofracks, but I`m a little disappointed with the Kanulock Straps. Hope A1 come to my rescue when they read this.
I have had these for a few weeks and have used them multiple times to secure my kayak to my car. I like the idea of these, but the ends are already showing signs of wear, and sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get the locking portion positioned just so before you manage to get the key in. Also, no matter how tight I pull them, I find that my kayak moves around on the top of my car unless I use additional straps or use them in conjunction with J racks. The 13' size is just long enough to secure my sit-on-top kayak, so if you are unsure, get this size and not the 11'. The best thing about this product is the peace of mind that comes with it!
They came loose within about 20 minutes of driving and my surfboard and kayaks flew off the roof, almost causing a crash. At first I thought I just didn't tie it down well. I then bought some straps from halfords and put these on as well. Throughout the rest of the journey, the straps from halfords stayed tight, and the kanulocks carried on loosening.I do not trust these straps.
I had to do an unexpected overnight parked in a somewhat sketchy neighborhood with 2 brand new kayaks and 4 non-lockable racks on top. Needless to say this made me a little nervous, so I picked up one set of these and used them in addition to my regular rack straps. (They were too wide to fit through the slots on my Malone Jloaders) I just wrapped one around each boat between the regular straps , under the rack feet, and up around the permanent roof rails before locking them together. The straps are definitely heavy duty with steel banding inside, and the locks are pretty beefy too; nobody is cutting through them without some serious effort. (Just don't lose those tiny keys)! Basically you are supposed to use them in place of your regular rack straps, but I found them to be too big and cumbersome for that. They also felt a bit difficult to really FULLY tighten down, even when really cranking on them. Partly due to the material, partly due to the lock design I think. Basically it would have made me very nervous driving down I5 with them as a primary strap. Nobody wants to find out how sturdy their bow and stern lines are doing 70 mph. However, this workaround meant I only needed one set of 8ft long straps for two boats instead of two, and I got to sleep peacefully without wondering if I still actually owned any boats and/or racks in the morning. A definite buy if you have to park overnight in sketchy spots like this or leave them on top of the car at a trailhead. Just don't forget to bring your regular setup too!
Super durable, easy to use, well-designed. I like that the locking mechanism is shrouded in a soft, rubbery material that doesn't scratch the car. You can find online reviews that complain about the locks sticking or the straps being difficult to undo, but I've had no problems at all - simply lock and unlock the straps when they're under pressure, and when it's time to undo them, pull down on the straps first, tightening them, then release/push up the latch. Easy. Overall, a little pricey but totally worth the money in my opinion. Would absolutely buy again. UPDATE 3-12-18 Customer service is great, too. Emailed them because one of the yellow rubber covers on a lock broke, and they shipped me two for free in about 48 hours, plus an extra set of keys. After much research, I purchased a set of these to transport my surfboards to our annual family beach holiday. The rest of the year I travel solo with the boards in my car. Over a simple non-lockable strap, they provide peace of mind when stopped at a food stop, petrol stops or tourist attractions on the journey. Some of the other brands have exposed metal buckles that can dint your paintwork during the tie-down proces, or combination locks that have more moving parts that can fail.I always use a basic 5mm board cover, and they have never marked any of my boards or come loose on long commutes. My boards can be secured quickly and safely especially when another car is waiting for the carpark or you're standing on the car's sidestep in 40 degree Celsius heat... I know 1st world problems :(I recently had an issue with my original set and the Australian customer service team is truly exceptional and worked with me to address my concerns. I now have a pair of the latest Kanulock straps and the design team have addressed the locking mechanism, which now requires little effort to activate and the risk of lost keys as they have numbered the keys, so you can order a replacement if you loose your set.The Kanulock is a quality product, with excellent customer service, which I would highly recommend to anyone looking to purchase a lockable strap.
My first time putting my new kayak on my car roof with J-Bars and these straps were very easy to use, felt really solid and the lock feels secure enough for the price. The silicone rubber material backing the locked ratchet is great and I had no concern it pressing up against the kayak and also it's slightly curved so it sits snug against the hull. Highly recommend!
