Kawai CA401WM Digital Piano - White Maple

Beautiful piano, great piece of furniture as well. Sound is great and keyboard feeling is spot on. Great for beginners and advanced players that don't want to spend too much and still get a good quality digital piano.A bit confusing when assembling as it did not seem to have the assembly instructions. We figured it out in the end though.

Had this piano about six months now and enjoying it very much. I can't really comment on how it compares to its competitors as bought this on somewhat of an impulse buy without doing a huge amount of research into other models. I bought this as I wanted an acoustic piano experience for less than £2000 and also the convenience of not having to tune it and be able to play with headphones on (which I do 99% of the time)I really like the action and feel of the wooden keys. I've never been fortunate enough to play a grand piano but I can imagine this comes quite close in action. I like the sound of the samples and in particular the SK-EX Competition sample. I like how there are two headphone sockets (one can be used as line out to external speakers)I will admit I have done a lot of tweaking to get the sound to my liking. By default the acoustic piano sounds are a little warm and fuzzy for my liking with a fair amount of bass, and I prefer a much brighter, crisper sound, so had to play with the some of the built in settings to rectify this.A couple of dislikes... Built in speakers are powerful enough for my liking but the tweeter sound is played from inside the cabinet (only very thin speaker grill near top of cabinet) As such, you lose a lot of the higher frequencies in my opinion although you can minimise the effect with some of the settings. In the end though I bought some external speakers with built-in tweeters to get around this issue.The other issue I have is the sound when playing with headphones on, which I do most of the time. I have decent set of closed studio headphones (AKG K371) which play music naturally but found the bass quite high when I had the PhoneType setting to "closed" Oddly enough switching the setting to "Inner Ear" solved this issue and removed a lot of the unwanted bass. The only other issue is I prefer the sound in the headphone to be in stereo without any spatial effects being applied and despite this being a setting on the piano (which I have in the "off" setting) it seems to apply some sort of spatial effects to some of the piano sounds even when in off position. Fortunately, the default SK-EX Competition piano sound doesn't appear to be affected by this and tend just to stick with this on anyway as I prefer it the most.So, a few work arounds over the time I've owned to get the sound to my preference but overall I am pleased with this purchase. If you're interested, I play mainly classical music i.e. chopin, beethoven, bach, some scott joplin and a few contemporary pieces

Great design and acoustic feel touch response

CA401ES looks amazing. The built quality is a premium finish although it is considered as an entry level CA series. The keys touch expressiveness is close to the acoustic piano. The default piano sound is a bit warmer tone and acceptable audio quality. The ordering process from Better Music is hassle free and fast delivery.

The White Maple Kawai CA401 is an absolute masterpiece. Sleek, modern and stylish, it really is a beautiful item in our loungeroom. The sounds and touch of the piano are superb. It is easy to navigate the menu and is going to be a wonderful addition to our house in the coming years. Better Music were fantastic to deal with and had the best price in Australia! Thanks so much!!
