Really these feel like shoes, but from my experience of hiking the AT in these, I fell in love. They lasted so much longer than any other persons footwear I hiked with. The ankle support SAVED me so many times! And the customer service from keen when they finally gave out at over a 1000 miles was top knoch! I’d buy them again and again. These boots are extremely comfortable, but the "bellows" will fail quickly and crack at the folds. I'm honestly surprised REI is still selling these given their failure rate. Keen either did NOT do the testing of the material they say they did, or the materials used in production proved defective.Either way, don't buy these unless you're okay with the gimmick of the flexible plastic not living up to Keen's promises. Mine cracked after only four moderate hikes in six months. Others reported this on the REI site when this model had a similar SKU.

I hate to write this because I've been a loyal Keen customer for 20 years. These boots will eventually tear on the flex part of the boot and leak. I purchased a pair almost 2 years ago and probably only wore them 15-20 times since I own multiple styles of Keens and wear all of them (I own 10 pair of Keens) depending on the occasion. These were worn just as a casual boot (not in harsh weather conditions) and the flex portion of the boot bends (ergo their name) and creates a crease that will eventually wear through. I wear Solomon Quest GTX as my 1-2 season Summer backpacking boot (June thru September) and Zamberland Viox GTX as my 3-4 season Winter hiking boot. I’m happy with these - they have excellent construction, needed no break-in, and are very comfortable. I’ve worn them on full-day hikes and to the office. They aren’t overstyled or overly bulky. However, in comparison to my Salomon Quest 4D GTX (which are overstyled and overly bulky), these still feel heavier and less flexible despite being a smaller boot and having the bellows flex feature. The tongue gusset is really low, and while I haven’t had to test that yet, it doesn’t seem very functional. There is also a noticeable ridge of hard material inside the toe box just along the toenail area of my pinky and ring toes, but the toe box is very ample so it tends to not bother me. This resulted in bruised toes and a couple of lost toenails when descending one particularly steep slope.When tightening the boots down to the point where this movement is reduced, I have found the pressure exerted on my midfoot by the bottom of the lacing is extremely uncomfortable. This is despite the tongue being well padded and trying a number of different lacing methods to no avail.These boots look great, the sole is very grippy and the waterproofing is up to Keen's usual high standards. Despite this, I have now relegated these boots to occasional country walks and travelling where I’m sure they will excel.
I bought these for their usual use in alpine environments. They seem super comfortable, really good for brief running when needed with the profile of the heel and toe of the sole for the heel strike and roll off of the toe during a stride. The nice big Keen toe boxes seem great. I like the non-hook style lacing which runs most of the way up to the last 2 hooks. I bought a 0.5 US size larger than my normal running shoe, and it seems nice. I like the extra lateral ankle support and the super cushy sole for impacts. I can literally sprint in these boots for 50 metres and it feels almost like a running shoe. It seemed the sizing ran only slightly small, but only slightly, as mentioned perhaps 0.5 US. Altitude shipping arrived a day early, no issues.

The next claim, it is the main one - saving on trifles. The seam threads on my boots were torn. Gave these boots a workout walking over the summer on rough ground in the Rockies. Wasn't mountain climb, just moderate terrain.At first I thought that they were too soft to protect my feet. Turned out the soft sole worked great for traction and comfort and protected my feet even though I could feel small rocks thru the sole. My feet always felt great at the end of the day.They are waterproof in snow on rain. Great boots with one problem.The rubber flex feature failed splitting at the hinge valleys. The rest of the boot still in good condition. Correction: I did have to " Shoe Goo" the rubber scuff piece on the side of one of the boots.I would buy another pair without the flex feature but then they wouldn't be "flex" boots.

The pair I had dedicated for hunting and scouting are still being used up to present. I have cranked out probably 1000 miles in those boots in hill terrain, marsh terrain, flat terrain, and some rugged rocky terrain. I used and abused these boots and they still dont have a single hole in them. They are still very comfortable and still have use to come. The pair I have for my job has not gotten as much abuse so they are still in excellent shape. My only complaint about the boots is that when they get wet they tend to shrink quite a bit when dried out. Ok, so the boot is wonderful. Fit, great, weight, great, waterproof, great. The only reason I'm giving this a 3 star review is because the Rubber sole of my particular boots are already peeling off. I've had these for less then 3 months and have at least 200 miles on them. Ideally this boot would be even more amazing if they had a 1 piece rubber sole, rather then one with flex points where the glue has failed. i need my boots to flex but not fail. Last its a personal issue of mine but who actually needs all that bulky padding and/or insulation around the ankle. it seems like unnecessary weight
