With its room-for-yKeen's-toes fit and out-of-the-box comfort, Targhee has been an icon since Keen introduced it in 2005. For their women's Targhee III hiking shoe, Keen carried over the fit, made-to-keep durability, and performance that fans love. But they gave it an updated look with a slightly sleeker outsole and more of a sneaker feel than Targhee II. With waterproof protection, it's as ready as ever for all-terrain adventures in any weather.

I bought a 2nd pair of the Targhee (before Keen stops making them). I bought a different color but the same size; this pair didn't fit at all like the first - they were too big so had to return them. if you get the right fit, I highly recommend. The half size down is too small; I went to a local store to try on both sizes for comparison. Seems this pair was made using a different mold or pattern (or made in a different country). Too bad, I really like the pair I have and wanted a 2nd back up pair.

I love the "traditional" width (i.e. plenty of room for my toes to splay a bit).Plenty of support as well as quite comfortable. All around my favorite trail shoe. One complaint: this is my fourth pair and my last two pairs got cracks in the "waterproof" part after getting wet just once. No, not drenched, just lightly rained on. When they dried, they cracked. So, they were kinda useless for waterproof any more. Still a really good show though! Thus, why I just purchased again.

Earlier this year I purchased my second set of Keen Targhee III Waterproof Shoes. I loved my first pair purchased 3.5 years ago. The previous pair had a different material around the toe area and were tough and held up perfectly under some harsh wearing conditions. I was excited to purchase my second pair and was sadly disappointed to find they changed the shoe material to a very soft fabric around the toe area. In less than two months of easy wear, I noticed cracking on the edges. I thought it was a default in the shoe so I took them back to the store and picked out a new pair of the same shoe. 3 months later the same issue happened with the cracking and it kept getting worse. I decided to just keep them this time but I was concerned with how they would hold up in ... MoreEarlier this year I purchased my second set of Keen Targhee III Waterproof Shoes. I was not happy with this new style of shoe. Loved the old, not a fan of how these hold up. Please Keen use better materials if you are going to claim water proof. This may be my last KEEN purchase sadly.

I bought these back in November 23. I have been "breaking them in" since then and I have to say that these are the most uncomfortable hiking shoes I have ever worn. I thought once broke in they would improve. Nope. It's like walking barefoot on a concrete floor all day after wearing them for four hours. My feet hurt! And I haven't even worn them hiking yet! Heavy and make your feet hot because they aren't leather. Vegan leather = plastic by any other name. Too late to return so I will wear them for outside chores and for short periods only.
I've worn keen boots for many years on my many bush walks and I found them durable and comfortable. However this time I purchased keen shoes. I wore them on the latest walk on KIWT and for the first time ever I almost pulled out of the walk. When walking on very rocky grounds I found my toes (not big toe) became very painful and almost prevented finishing the walk. I tried to phone the ranger to get picked up but no phone reception so I had no choice but to complete the walk. I'm very disappointed as I have always worn keens boots and for some reason I tried shoes. Anyway I finished the walk. I'll NOT wear them again on a walk.
Over the years I’ve had a number of different brands of hiking shoes but several years ago I discovered Keen Targhee style. Now they are the only shoes I will buy. Extremely comfortable right from day one and very durable. They have a wide toe box which is crucial for me since I have a hammer toe. I’ve hiked the Mont Blanc circuit the Dolomites and the Inca Trail with these shoes and even did a marathon on hiking trails five years ago to celebrate my 75th birthday. Never a problem with these shoes. As it was time for another new pair I was thrilled to find them on sale at REI.
The main reason I have been buying Keens for many years is good arch support, stability and roomy toebox. Bought Circadia model recently and returned next day - zero arch support. Then bought Targhee, it felt better trying at home but after a short walk outside got foot pain due to very poor arch support.I was going to return this one too, but took my favourite very old Keen (similar design shoes), took out the insole and put in the Targhee. Miracle:) . The shoes became supportive just like my old ones. I compared the insoles, hard to believe how "flimsy" and too flexible the new insoles are. Arch area of the insoles gets compressed easily and does not hold the foot at all.Dear KEEN, Please instead of making beautiful black and yellow insoles, make them / shoes ... MoreThe main reason I have been buying Keens for many years is good arch support, stability and roomy toebox. Buying $140+ shoes and then looking for good insoles to replace the original ones just does not make sense!
I loved how these looked online and was excited that they were waterproof. However, when they arrived, the left shoe seemed narrower in the toe box than the right. My big toe rubbed against the inside of the shoe and it hurt. I returned them and received my refund in a timely manner. Overall the shoes were not very comfortable. There was not enough cushioning and they seemed a little stiff. I have other keen shoes I’ve purchased in stores and like them so it was a disappointment these didn’t work out.
I decided to give the Targhee IIIs a try after being a loyal Oboz customer for a few years. Oboz changed their Sawtooth hikers, so I thought that I would give Keen a try again. I bought them during the Black Friday sales for $99. To get free shipping, I then had to buy a T-shirt or something cheap. Fine, whatever. I also remember liking the wide toe box in Keens. The toe box is fine on these, but the heel is enormous. Like slips up and down when I even use the thickest socks. The heel seems to be the same size as the toe box. I wanted to maybe try a half size down or a size down. The price went up by $66 since I bought them, though, as the sale was for Black Friday. I sent a message to customer service asking if I could do an exchange to try a different size, but ... MoreI decided to give the Targhee IIIs a try after being a loyal Oboz customer for a few years. I got no actual response, just an email a few days later to rate my customer service from Amanda, who I never got an email from (checked all the spam folders, etc). I tried really hard to become a Keen customer again. But now I am giving up and just sending these shoes back for a refund.
After three months of wearing these for daily walking on unpaved roads and easy trails near my home, I'm a little disappointed. The shoes are quite heavy,:more than I expected in a "walking shoe". I also reduced my rating by an additional star because most days when I return home, I have to extract two to three stones from the tread. I appreciate the good grip, but I have never had this problem with any of my other lightweight hiking shoes or walking shoes. This is a problem because I like to wear my walking shoes when I go into town and when I'm working around home. Stones and floors don't mix well. I had high hopes for these shoes and sadly, they fell short. I did not go lower than 3 stars because they are well made, easy to lace and adjust the tightness and the ... MoreAfter three months of wearing these for daily walking on unpaved roads and easy trails near my home, I'm a little disappointed. I had high hopes for these shoes and sadly, they fell short. I did not go lower than 3 stars because they are well made, easy to lace and adjust the tightness and the laces are generous in length. By the way, I ordered a 1/2 size up because the Keen sandals I ordered last summer (same size and model I had bought several years ago) seemed to be running small. I also wanted a shoe that would give me generous toe room. These are borderline in that department. Would I order these again;? no.Would I recommend them to a friend. Probably not.
