I bought a pair for my 3yo son and I’m taking them back after wearing them once. The ankle strap is a huge pain to adjust because the buckle for the strap is too tight to move past the Velcro. This makes the already too narrow opening a nightmare to get a kids foot into. I honestly don’t know how they didn’t realize that this was a problem because it’s an obvious design flaw.

Wore the shoe on a trip to snow. It is waterproof and kept me dry most of the time. Not too heavy and so was comfortable wearing through the day. Grip was fine but I did slip a few times. Comfortable to run as well.

My kids and I hiked 100 miles across England in 8 days last year in these boots and both kids loved them. I loved that they could put them on alone, because tying shoelaces over 100 miles would have driven me crazy. We bought them a month before our trip and they were great even with so little break in time. In addition to the hike across England, we took them trekking up to falls and mountains in Skye and they kept feet reasonably dry and blister free. Buying a new set for this summer.

I bought 3 pairs for each of our kids and two of them like the boots. They are pretty hard to get on but have good support once on. Like others have mentioned the Velcro closure seems to be a bizarre size that isn’t nearly long enough on our smallest pair but ok on the bigger sizes. My biggest gripe and the reason for the 3 stars is that there is a giant seam in the toe area. It doesnt seem to bother our littler kids but it causes a huge pressure point on our oldest and hurts her when she walks. We’ll have to find something with a better seam layout for her.
We wanted to love these and have been big KEEN supporters but this shoe just didn't work out and will be returning them. The biggest issue is that the velcro strap at the top which provides all the ankle support comes unstrapped anytime you lean forward in the shoe (ex hiking up hill). This really diminishes the functionality of the shoe. Otherwise it's a great shoe, comfortable, pretty waterproof and lots of grip while still being flexible.
I am a huge Keen fan and had reasonably high expectations for these boots since we own several different styles within my family. I've bought my daughter the Newport H2 sandals (which we LOVE) every Summer since she was born, and for her 3rd birthday we decided to gift her with her 1st pair of hiking boots. We hike at least 8 miles a week. Sometimes i wear her in a carrier, but over the past few months she's been walking a couple of miles on the trails on her own. We both have Keen hiking boots and I love matching with my toddler! But I noticed we had identical scabs in the same place on our right ankle. Then my daughter started complaining more about her ankle hurting. I realized that it was our hiking boots that were rubbing in the exact same spot on our ankles. ... MoreI am a huge Keen fan and had reasonably high expectations for these boots since we own several different styles within my family. It seems to really cause her discomfort, so unfortunately we will need to return her boots and find something else that works.
Very nice boots but run narrow, esp for a Keen brand. I bought them for my daughter but they were too narrow for her. I gave them to a neighbor and they fit her daughter with a narrow foot well. Great boot but just much narrower than other Keens we have tried.
Purchased these for my 5 year old (size 9) and she loves these boots! She wore the size 8 boots last summer and outgrew them, so we purchased this exact brand/style again because she did so well hiking in the first pair. They’re also perfect for camping trips (where kids are constantly running around in dirt & rocks). Plus, she says they’re comfortable. Living in Colorado, you have to invest in a nice pair of hiking boots. It makes all the difference with any outdoor adventure. These boots were reasonably priced and they’re very durable- money well spent. I highly recommend them!
My son has to wear orthotics and these shoes are super great for that. They are flexible for hiking, wide enough for the orthotics, and strong enough for a Boy Scout going hiking, cycling, and camping on the regular. However, they are not as waterproof as they claim to be. I will be waterproofing them ASAP. It is a good thing the Boy Scouts are taught to bring extra socks, and to wear thick wool socks. They are water repellent, but not waterproof.Oh and my son loves the no-tie-quick laces.
Got these for a rainy campout for my 5th grader. His feet stayed nice and dry. I was advised that these might run small and you typically want to size up with hiking boots anyway. He wore them with the basic REI wool socks there were no problems with blisters though he didn’t do much hiking. It was a good weekend to start breaking them in. I’ve purchased many pairs of Keens over the years for him and these seem to be the same high quality.
