But looking forward to a wider range of color schemes.

I can comfortably walk in these for miles and I feel significantly less fatigued afterwards compared to when I use my normal walking sneakers. But now I have to point out a few unfortunate kinks. First of all these shows have a VERY strong "new show" smell that will not go away - it's decreased but I still smell it after a few days which I don't like. I hope it fully disappears but for now, it's a pretty big annoyance. Also, while they're super comfortable to walk in, the shape of these shoes does make it a bit awkward to do anything other than walking - light jogging (like in order to get through a yellow light) and especially walking up and down stairs both feel very awkward, I'm getting more used to them but I just feel slightly off-balance while performing these actions. Similarly, it feels kind of awkward to simply stand in these shoes, since they feel like they're trying to propel me forward! So for things like waiting at red lights or in lines at stores, it's a little odd of a feeling. Lastly I want to talk about the design of these shoes. I like the design a lot, they're very sporty and I'm a fan of how big and chunky they are, but I'm not the biggest fan of the placement of the shoelaces (which are at a slight diagonal as opposed to going down vertically) and I especially don't love the placement of the KEEN logo/the big WK400 on the tongues. The WK400 isn't so bad, I just think they stand out a bit too much. But the big KEEN logo right at the toe of each shoe looks really lousy, it really looks like they stamped the logo in the most obnoxious, most noticeable location imaginable. I don't understand why they couldn't simply put the logo on the sides or the back like any other shoe. All of these little nitpicks, but especially the comfort aspects while standing/jogging/going up stairs, are enough for me to lower the overall score to 4 stars. Again these are fantastic overall, and I think they will last for a very long time, but if Keen can find a way to iron out these few kinks these could really be a special pair of shoes.

The WK400 is an interesting product that I hope doesn't get phased out because of wanting a newer product or look...sales vs design, or letting the urge for "out with the old, in with the new" to take too strong of a hold.With an Achilles tendon problem in one leg, and a poor knee replacement in the other, the curve of this shoe forces a more natural gait while walking. I now own 5 different pairs of the WK400. The more subtle curve on the WK450 is slightly less effective for my particular problem. But I am glad I bought them...experimentation might be the key. Inserts are the only thing I've needed to replace on all of them over the years. For a while another company who "specializes" in non-prescription orthopedic shoes attracted my attention. They are fine if one is not particularly active, and I don't know if Keen has put thought into it, but there is more side to side support then what I thought, in a starry eyed moment, might be a replacement.The one pair of Keen waterproof/ insulated boots I own...and they seem to have disappeared from the lineup, though the Davenport looks the closest...sorta work by removing the inserts and wearing the thinnest socks possible to give added space, but that is a silly long term solution. When winter again approaches, I may need some suggestions on the closest model to the "walking curve" the WK400 or 450 have...or maybe that is a pipe dream. And despite the insulation, I should probably consider jumping up a size to accommodate heavier socks. Or should I consider going "wide". If these are common sense suggestions, I don't see them mentioned.

Some reviews said there was a learning curve to them but I didn't experience that, maybe my walking style just matches what these are going for. I got them in all black and they look like an ordinary sneaker , I had been worried that the large heel cushion would be too prominent but I think that is accentuated on screen and perhaps by the other multi tone color options. The treads work well with the shoe, and the lugs help grant some extra stability on slightly uneven terrain. I wouldn't use them for more challenging hiking (which they aren't designed for) as the added cushion will lead to more rolled ankles due to the lack of feel in my experience.The rubber "nubs" on the bottom of the shoe are an odd choice for a walking shoe. So far they help in "porous" terrain like on the ground and on asphalt if there's enough small holes for them to gain a bit of traction. You won't notice them on rugs, but any flat indoor surface like tile, wood, concrete, etc., does feel a bit strange since it's almost like you are just slightly floating above the rest of the tread. I also wonder how long they will last, I can only imagine after a few months the most used areas of the tread will have the nubs shear off but we'll see. I find it a bit ironic that for a company with their "eco friendly" insole that they also put a bunch of rubber nubs that will shear off and join the environment through regular use. If you're worried about them joining the rest of the world or just don't like how they feel it would be easy enough to snip them off.The shoes are fairly breathable, but the logo is in an odd location. The logo is made of hard plastic and seems to be on the attached with an adhesive on the mesh upper facing towards you. The logo style and placement is blocking a good bit of the permeable mesh, I would've preferred it placed on the side or knit in the same breathable material as the rest of the upper, right now it blocks a good portion of the breathable material. On the plus side, if you look down you won't forget the brand of shoe you bought.Overall the shoes are comfortable, supportive, and I've liked walking with them as an activity and just wearing them as everyday sneakers. For the next iteration, I think the rubber nubs and logo placement should be revisited.

Also the retail price is a bit hefty, but after using these every day, everywhere I go, I would say they are definitely worth it! I bought both the WK400 austern(blue) and steel grey and rotated them daily since 1/1/24. I just crossed over 2500+ miles between the two. So roughly 1250 miles for each pair. I was just starting to have very slight discomfort from excessive wear. I consider that to be amazing. I just rotated in two new pairs of WK400 this morning. All of my walking has been paved road walking with minimal dirt trail. I am extremely pleased with their longevity. I referred 3 people who are now experiencing similar results with rotating between 2 sets of the WK400. I would not hesitate one bit to give Keen WK400 a real look and test.
