Alright, but waterproof die in less then 4 months

I bought these shoes for work. I’m on my feet 10 hours a day 4 days a week and do a variety of physical demanding activities. I often work around water and I walk on average 5 miles a day. They had great waterproofing to start out and helped me during a few heavy rainstorms but, the covering gave out along the seems and where my foot tends to bend when I crouch thus, exposing a non water proof fabric. I put these shoes through the wringer and I may not have done enough to care for them as they often got wet and were exposed to some cleaning chemicals. However I’ve have had Timberlands and Merrell last much longer. The comfort and tread it still alright but I they were not up to the demands of my job. I’m disappointed in how much I paid for them.

I purchased these in a 7.5, and typically wear 7 in street shoes. One I broke them in, I wished I had sized down, but in the store the 7 was just way too tight on my toe.I wore them straight of the box on a 15 mile trail that included mud and puddles, no problems. I wore them again on an 9 mile snow trail that included glissading. Temperatures rose so the snow became a slushy mess. These shoes filled with SO much water, and not through the ankle as I had gaiters on and pants stayed dry under them. I was walking in pools of water, inside my shoe for 2 hours. Granted, it was raining for hours and my raincoat also soaked through down to my base layers so conditions were pretty extreme. Only one person came out of that hike with dry feet and she was wearing Salomons. ... MoreI purchased these in a 7.5, and typically wear 7 in street shoes. For anything more intense, I do not recommend.

I have only owned these a week but so far they are great. The first two days the tops of my feet up near where the knot is tied hurt but now I’ve got them loosened up enough that they are very comfy. The toe box is extremely roomy. I wear them with a pair of superfeet orthotics. The orthotics provide a little more arch support. I also bought a full size larger than my regular street shoes because I have a damaged fourth toenail on my right foot. I wear them with ankle height light weight socks, either Balega or Smart wool. I will be wearing them for more than just hiking; groomed trails, while traveling, around the neighborhood, grocery store, etc.

Great all round hiking boots
19 September 2022

This is my 2nd pair, the first pair lasted 2 years of hiking 7-15 miles a week. The tread on the bottom started to break off over time from hiking up sharp rocky terrain, however the structure of the boot is still intact and water tight. I bought the new pair because I got orthotics and needed a different size to accommodate them. I’ve worn these boots with snowshoeing and my feet were warm enough, however it was a sunny day and my feet didn’t get into the snow much. The open eye loop style of the lace system makes it easy to make lace modifications without putting pressure points on your feet. I have narrow feet and these were recommended for narrower feet by my Dr., but the toe box is generous considering.

I love these boots!

I was having some serious foot pain, between walking our dogs and hiking with our daughter for Scouts. I would be limping before the end of a 1-mile walk/hike (had been 2 two-mile walks a day with our dogs before my injury). I thought I had a hairline fracture after bruising the top of my foot a few weeks ago. Since it never got better, I asked my doctor about it and she had me get it x-rayed. Turns out, I have arthritis. I would have rather had a break. The salesman at REI helped me find the right boots for my feet. A few days later, I went on a weekend campout with our daughter's troop. I didn't have any of the pain I'd had before from the arthritis in my foot! And my feet stayed dry. I hope to get back to walking our dogs regularly soon. I've never spent this much on a pair of shoes/boots before, but worth every penny.

Solid boot yet comfortable

I wear my boots everyday, I live out of my backpack. I travel to various places and hike here n there. So I wear them on trail, dirt, water, sand, shale rock, bedrock and even sidewalks.Typically a boot lasts about 6months for me. This is my second pair of Keens, my favorite book for wear n tear and price; I've worn out Oboz, very good boot also; La Sportiva (super comfy but soles failed-remember I'm pretty hard on my boots).Back to Keen, in all my boots I change out the insole. I wear 'Sole' brand, firm base to support added weight of my pack. The insoles last over a year. I take them out at every break to dry, air out and I wash them. Style/ Sizing changed- a great relationship ending
12 June 2023

I have worn this boot for many miles over at least 7 years and I love it. I wouldn't even want a new pair except part of the tread is peeling off on the side of my right boot- no complaints- I've been hard on them and they are still awesome for short trails and longer backpacking. I've had this problem with other Keen styles and it never dawned on my they would change this boot too. They totally changed the foot bed and the sizing and the new pair I bought is awful- not just the sizing but the sole is cushioned in all the wrong places. I am trying a smaller size (going from 7 to 6.5) and will update. It's really frustrating, this boot did not need to be improved. If not, I'll be heartbroken and just wear my old ones until they fall apart- then sadly, search for a new boot.

Update- going down a half size with keens updated
18 June 2023

I wasn’t able to update my first review. I stand partially corrected. After realizing Keen totally changed their sizing since my last purchase, I went down a half size with an exchange (from 7 to 6.5). I realize they are probably trying to align better with standard sizing which is only wise. Except some of us adapted to their running a half size small a long time ago. Anyway- I am going to keep the 6.5 only because my old ones are showing some wear after 7 years. I don’t really like the new design with the synthetic bottom seam and I’m worried about it splitting from the sole as others have experienced. But they were comfortable enough to keep and this boot is still better for my hiking and light/short backpacking purposes than any other boot I have owned (also ... MoreI wasn’t able to update my first review. Worn Down and Torn Up
27 October 2022

I've had my Keens for about 3 years now and at first I was in love. They were the first boots I had that weren't hand me downs. I've found over the years that they have begin to really show their wear. The traction has almost completely worn off and I find myself slipping when doing technical hikes (especially in the rain). There is some tearing near the shoelaces from me tying them over the years. They've remained very waterproof, which I've always appreciated. I've also learned that I can't go longer than 7 miles without getting blisters in these; I've tried various socks, lace arrangements, etc. and it seems inevitable. As I've begun doing significantly longer and more technical hikes these boots don't seem to keep up. These are the 3rd pair I have owned of this style since 2018. I wore the first two until they gave out. I walked, everywhere, every day, about 3000 miles in each pair. They were great shoes. I had full confidence that the third pair would be the same instant break in, great fit, durability, versatility, and waterproof-ness. However, I immediately noticed that the toe did not have that trademark Keen shape quite as much. It had been narrowed and made more pointed, more like Merrels. The top of the toes of on the left foot have a piece that is cut 2.5mm longer than the right shoe's and it folds oddly and rubs on the top of my toe. It seems like less care was used in manufacture. The side panels that help with waterproofing are considerably taller, in fact the whole shoe is taller. I preferred the lower profile of the other pairs. Low profile shoes are a quality that Keen has, in the past, distinguished themselves with and now it looks like the tall, big, shoes/boots that everyone else makes. The higher, larger profile seems to make the ball of the foot of the shoe less flexible. The footbed and shape of the show seems straighter and less form-fit to a foot. In general they are not as cute or comfortable. I wish Keen had not changed the pattern they use. If it isn't broken don't fix it.
