I miss the old arch support

I have worn Presidio shoes for years, everywhere and mostly every day. The pair I purchased last February, after the factory was moved from China to India, I had to go down a half size but the shoe was otherwise exactly as I expected. This year the leather insole has been replaced with a fabric insole that has less arch support. I took the insole out from my old shoes and compared them to make sure I wasn't imagining a different fit just because one pair was worn out. There was a noticeable difference. For the first time I have had to add an after-market insole to make the Presidio shoes comfortable for my feet. Keen, why did you mess with perfection?

Last pair I will ever purchase after 20 years of purchasing and loving Presidio. Issues with my latest pair: 1. Toe box continues to shrink 2. Heels slip and that has never happened. 3. They squeak! 4. Insert is thin and cheap. 5. The shoelaces are so short now I can't double tie. I contacted Keen as I purchased directly, but think responses were AI generated. So I'm writing this review. I'm sure there are plenty of employees who really care about quality, but it's so sad to see what was once a great shoe continually decline. Sign of the times, I guess. And sad.

My Fifth Pair of These Comfortable, Practical, and Stylish Shoes!!

I bought my first pair of Keen Presidio shoes (black) quite a few years ago. They were instantly comfortable to my challenged and difficult to please feet. I wore them everywhere in all types of weather, and they looked good even when I was a bit more dressed up. A few months later, I bought a pair in the Shitake Brown color, and eventually in two other colors that were offered. I finally wore out the black pair and just replaced them. Once again, they required no breaking in. I love that they not only fit but that they have a bit of style, serve the purpose of sneakers, but are so much more than that. Bravo, Keen. Please never retire this style!!! And bring out more colors again.

Nice looking shoe. Poor arch support.
14 June 2022

So, the arch support is significantly less than in the Presidio shoe and boots. I ended up needing to buy new insoles for them as the insoles they come with aren’t as substantial as the others in the Presidio line. I wish there was more descriptions of the shoes as some seem to be wider and the arch support varies from one insole to another. As far as sustainability goes ordering a second pair of insoles isn’t great. I wish keen would allow customers to select the level of support they require in insoles since they make more supportive and less supportive insoles and put them in different shoes. I will still buy keens because my shoes last forever and are very comfortable I just wish I knew in advance more about how a style tends to run in terms of fit and arch support before I try them on. I usually order online, and end up ordering 8 pairs of shoes and sending back the ones that don’t work. I would rather just order the two I want and be done with it.

Not the Keen quality of past, no wide
8 January 2024

No longer available in wide for women. When I called customer service I was told to buy men’s sizes. Shoe is now shorter and has a cheap insole that is bright yellow with advertising on it! What happened to the supportive and substantial leather insole? If costs go up, raise the price. I am not looking for a cheaply made, unsupportive shoe in limited sizes. I come to Keen looking for the quality of yesteryear and am supremely disappointed.

Poor quality and uncomfortable.
8 November 2023

I bought a pair of these several years ago and loved them. They were really good quality and extremely comfortable. They are starting to wear out after about a decade, so I ordered two more, one black, one brown and was really excited to get them. Boy was I disappointed! The quality has really declined, they are not comfortable at all, and they don't even look nice anymore. It just looks like an ugly sneaker. I returned both pairs immediately.

Same Style, Different Fit
29 April 2024

I have been wearing Keens for at least 20 years. Each time I got a new pair I knew what to expect. Not so anymore. The once comfortable Presidio - my go-to shoe, is no longer comfortable. The arch support is almost non-existent; the shoestrings are much shorter so I can no longer double knot them (they will always come untied at least once every wearing); the shoe is stiff and seems to resist getting broken in. In short, they are not the same Keen comfortable, wear-everywhere shoes. This makes me sad since I really loved wearing the "old" Keens. Once more, an "improvement" ruins a good thing.

The newer model has a defect
13 February 2023

I ordered a pair of Presidios to replace my very old, well-loved ones. The new shoes arrived today, and immediately I knew the shoe last or manufacturer had changed. The tongue on the new shoes is very noticeably longer (also stiffer, less flexible) than on the old shoes and it cuts into my ankle when I flexed my foot. It actually hurt! They just aren't wearable, and I'm devastated as Keens are the only shoes that accommodate my toes, and Presidios are my "dress" shoes. I can't imagine where aim going to find a replacement for my Keens. I took a photo of both new shoe and old to demonstrate the difference but I can't attach it. No, I can't recommend this shoe Amy longer.

Third and last pair
28 July 2023

I've worn through 2 pairs of Presido shoes over the years, both of which fit perfectly and were comfortable to walk in from day one. A little over a month ago, I received a third pair and was disappointed to discover they were very different from previous pairs. Most obvious: the leather is much stiffer. I thought they'd break in after a couple weeks, but they haven't even after a month. Second, Keene changed the insole. I have high arches, so I appreciated the good arch support and cushioning previous insoles have had. The new insole is a thin, flat foam. Keene sells insoles separately, for an additional $50-60 plus shipping. I got $12 insoles from Walgreens that have better arch support and cushioning than those that came with my new Presidios. Finally, I need to tighten the laces so much that the top of my insteps gets sore to keep my feet from sliding around and banging into the toes while walking. Perhaps the foot bed is a bit wider? Tightening the laces is not easy either, because they're too snug in the eyelets. I wish I'd noticed Keene's 30-day return policy. However, I spent most of the first 30 days messing with insoles and thinking I just needed to wear the shoes and to get them broken in.
