Bought these yesterday to replace factory speakers. Whilst the mids and highs were fine, the lows were very poor; hardly any bass at all and much worse than original paper cone factory speakers in my suzuki. I thought I might have inadvertently reversed the polarity, but no, the polarity was correct. Overall not too bad for the price, but steer clear if you want bass.

Well these are good sounding as you would expect, clear and crisp but lack any kind of low end at all. Installed into a 2017 Toyota Hilux to replace the awful paper and plastic speakers and while the amount of volume is much better without any distortion, at low volume the old speakers had far more low end and sounded punchier. For me this is no issue as I have an under seat sub but if you want some half decent bass then i'd be looking for something a little more capable. As "general purpose" background style speakers they are fine.

One of the Kenwood speakers in our caravan (1660 model) had failed (10 years old). I purchased these as a replacement after researching dimensions. It was a direct fit replacement at a bargain price (compared to major retailers). The sound is rich, possibly better than the speakers it replaced.

If installed correctly with sound deadening, and a reasonable hey unit etc, acceptable sound can be had, excluding bass response.
I was listening to the other speakers at SCA and hadn't even contemplated the Kenwood brand. After flicking between the Sony, Pioneer and JVC that I was interested in ($70+ range) none really took my fancy and all were muddy (low mids were dominate taking away any low end and ruining any clean highs). For fun I flicked over to the Kenwood KFC-S1666 and there it was - clear vocals, no muddy low mids (leaving room for some lower bass to come through - though you don't buy these for bass) so decision made. They do really have a 'Sound Stage' sound to them. Only negative part is they are a little harsh around 3-4K so if you have an EQ you can smooth that out. Given the low RMS wattage they also work well straight off a head unit and don't require an amp.
Good upgrade to factory speakers on old cars that are damaged etc running off a standard head unit. Decent sound quality for the price.
Great replacement in my '95 Subaru Liberty paired with a new Kenwood 1 DIN head unit. Good overall sound in the standard door mounting position. Only surprised they only came with vey short speaker wires. That was ok for me as I joined them to the factory speaker wires anyway.
Seem to pump out the tunes pretty good? Whilst lacking bass everything else is crystal clear. Good upgrade for the vz ute over the bog standard 15 watt factory speakers which were on the way out.
I bought these to go with a new head unit but connected them to the old head unit first, with the old standard vz head unit there wasnt much bass but really nice voice quality and with the extra oomph of the new head unit they spund much stronger and still have great voice quality for the price (and only being a 2-way unit). Overall I have a set in my front and rear doors, no amp just straight to the head unit and a different sub and amp combo in the boot and i am stoked. Not too ridiculous and worlds of difference to the stock setup they replaced. Cheers
These are pretty poor quality. I didn't want to spend much money as I'm considering selling my car soon. They made a big improvement over the paper speakers in my ve commodore but these speakers should honestly be about $35 full retail. They are fairly crackly at low volume and the cone construction is extremely flimsy. I personally would either spend a few extra dollars and buy something more sturdy. The cone and cone surround which on most speakers is coated foam or rubber appears to me like a coated paper on these and doesn't bounced back into shape well. I've given two stars because they were on sale. But in all honesty even jaycar door speakers put these to shame. Go with a different brand or spend at least $80 these feel like no namers off ebay.
