The Klymit Static V masters the perfect equation of weight, comfort and cost. While not a high R-value, I found this to be a perfect size and warmth for high desert spring and summer backpacking treks. I coupled it with the Klymit quilted sheet for some added warmth when night temps were lower than 50. I am 5’6” and 130lbs and found the size and thickness to be more than decent. Im a side sleeper, and usually my hips are very sore after consecutive sleeping pad nights, so ill sometimes couple this with a closed cell pad underneath. Since I usually sleep out cowboy style, l have always resisted using an inflatable ground pad due to durability concerns. My only reason for switching was not comfort but the small packable size of inflatable ground pads. The Klymit Static V2 is my first inflatableground pad and after sleeping 20 nights on it I amsatisfied with the durability. Surprisingly, I am enjoying the extra level of comfort compared to a foam ground pad.I weight just shy of 200 lbs and the pad is supportive without my hips touching the ground when sleeping on my side. The peculiar design of the Static V2 actually works and the ‘side rails’ seem to help keep you on the pad as long as you are not thrashing about too much in your sleep. All in all, a great sleeping pad.

This is a very well designed and made sleeping pad, incredibly lightweight and super easy to inflate. I can get it fully inflated with a maximum twelve blows or puffs, there is no need for a pump. I'm a big guy at over six feet tall weighing 95kg, and I'm a side sleeper as well and the V-Chambers design of this pad giving a height of 6cm's when fully inflated provides a very comfortable ammount of loft and support for my big frame while lying on my back or side. I also like the side rails design feature that helps keep you centered on the pad while sleeping, or in my case while I toss and turn in my sleep. It is a very quiet sleeping pad and does not have the dreaded crinkle noise that other insulated sleeping pads can have. I have found by folding it twice length ways before rolling it up it actually rolls up to fit inside the carry bag about two inches shorter than the bag which is another small bonus. One thing I question is Klymit's claim that is has an ' R ' value of 4.4. Having done some research before I purchased this pad there are some very good reviewers on Youtube channels who explain that Klymit have their own rating system on ' R ' values that does not follow what is widely accepted as an industry standard. I still went ahead and purchased this pad because my priorities were the size and weight factors, as well as how easy it is to inflate and the comfort factor. Now that I have one I would have to agree with other reviewers in saying I very much doubt it's ' R ' value is 4.4. The smart thing to do is to use a lightweight closed-cell foam sleeping pad underneath the Klymit pad. I use a Therma-a-Rest RidgeRest Classic which is virtually indestructable and gives excellent protection from sticks and branches or rocks in wild terrain, and it also has an ' R ' value of 2.6. It also helps keep you off the cold ground in Winter or in cold climate situations and provide a much better nights sleep. Even one of the cheap closed-cell foam yoga mats you can get from BCF would be great for this purpose. Over all I'm extremely happy with this pad and can highly recommend it.

I have several Big Agnes and Kelty pads. I’ve been interested in Klymit sleep pads for a few years. I bought my wife a seat cushion several years ago for sporting events and the other wives regularly want to know where to purchase one for themselves. I have a rifle Elk hunt this December and will be bringing a young hunter with me. We needed another sleep pad so I bought the Klymit Static V2. The R-value is next to nothing but we will be in a hot tent and planning on being on cots so it should not be an issue. Upon first inflation, it filled up easily enough. The inflate/deflate valve is a neat design if it works long term. First time laying on the pad, I could hear air leaking out of the valve area. Great pad!

I picked this up at Big 5, same price as here. This thing works great for me. I'm a bigger, heavier guy, and it's thick enough to where I don't sink when I'm laying down. I slept on this using my old military issue sleeping bag, just the intermediate black liner and the BDU Goretex bivy, inside a tent. Temperatures got down around 20 degrees F and there was no problems being cold from beneath. In the morning, I deflated the pad while sitting on it, and went from warm immediately to freezing when I contacted the ground. This definitely works to keep the cold away. This pad takes about 30 breaths to inflate. Its not easy, but it's not bad. Apparently, you're supposed to set up your sleep system in your tent more than half an hour before you get in anyway, so everything lofts up. This may need a second inflation after your breath inside cools off.My harbor freight inflator didn't have an adapter for this valve. No big deal, it worked when I held my hand between them.I want to buy the insulated camo one next. The wide one could be fun too.

Great pad, but *NOT* 4-season
15 June 2022

I've only been camping with it *twice* now. Take this review with a grain of salt, I don't have tons of experience with the specific product. This was done during the Spring, night temps dipped into the low 50's/high 40's. Rain all night, damp conditions. Paired with a Kelty Galatctic 30 down sleeping bag. This is probably the limit when it comes to temp. I was on the edge of being cold. I was wearing thermals under a t-shirt & sweat pants with Merino socks. I am small, ~130lbs, so that plays into my body temp regulation. But if you're going to end up in weather below 50 deg, I'd probably get something with a higher R-Value. This comes in at 4.4. Not the best. Sold as a 4-Season pad, it's really a 3-season pad. Would NOT recommend winter camping with this pad. ... MoreI've only been camping with it *twice* now. Otherwise, super comfy, super easy to blow up as I was not winded after inflating, not the best in packability, as it's probably on the bigger side for light/ultra-light backpackers/campers. Served it's purpose, though and I will continue to be happy with the purchase and use it until it breaks!

This is my spare. That I end up using more than my Insulated Nemo Tensor Alpine. Because I don't want to harm the Nemo because it was so expensive and seems more fragile and is too warm for summer. And because I guess my recent trips have been less extreme - like car camping and shorter backpacking overnights.I have no complaints though. It makes pumping it up less dizzying, faster and puts less moisture in the pad. Also, regarding warmth: While it is "insulated", I don't think I would use this pad on it's own in below freezing conditions. I would likely pair it with a reflective foam pad at the very least to give the warmth a boost.

Works great! Used at about 20 degrees F

Temperatures got down to between 15 and 25 degrees F when I went camping this past weekend. I slept on this, without a problem. This is the insulated version, which is incredibly important when you are camping in the cold. It is LEAGUES better than the foam pads. The R-value of 4.4 sounds about right. This is compared to the 1.0-2.5 value of the rest of the pads Big 5 had in stock that I saw. This means the pad will not conduct all of your heat to the ground. This pad folds up to be very small. Genuinely, this is the best pad I have ever purchased. It fits in a backpack with my big can of butane on top, taking up less than half of my 50L backpack, only going up the inside of the pack about 2/3rds of the way with the big 500g camping butane.

Lightweight- YESVersatile- YESEasy to setup- YESI bought this because of how light it is rated and with hopes that it’s design would allow me to not only use it in a tent but a hammock as well. Seems I lucked out, because of its V design when you lay on it when using your hammock the pad forms to your body and sits in place all night. Even though this pad is not the insulated one it served well as a wind barrier and kept the draft that’s flows beneath your hammock when suspended from giving me cold bottom at night. I also paired this pad with a pump sack that I already had in hand. Even though the pump sack didn’t thread onto the valve opening, the check valve kept all the air used to inflate the pad inside the pad while you collected more air with the pump sack ... MoreLightweight- YESVersatile- YESEasy to setup- YESI bought this because of how light it is rated and with hopes that it’s design would allow me to not only use it in a tent but a hammock as well.
