Knipex 10 in. Quick Set Cobra Pliers
The Cobra QuickSet is a new and innovative version of the KNIPEX Tools Cobra same proven gripping ability with an even faster adjustment on the workpiece. The Cobra QuickSet is now available in 12 inch and 10 inch versions to work on a wider variety of applications. Simply open the jaws all the way, place the top jaw on the workpiece, slide the lower jaws up to the workpiece and squeeze the handles together to engage the pliers. The pliers will lock at the precise setting until you are ready to reset it in a new position. Its that easy; push, open, slide up and stays set. No more time-consuming test-adjusting to achieve the correct size. And you'll also be able to say goodbye to blood blisters you get with other gripping pliers. With safety its first priority, KNIPEX Tools has designed a built-in pinch guard that prevents blood blisters on your hand. The unique self-locking adjustment and induction hardened gripping teeth means that once it's set, it stays. There's no slipping and no need to waste strength squeezing the pliers ensuring operator safety and more efficient work. Cobra's unique jaw configuration can grip any shape object flat, round, hex, or square. It also eliminates nut burring to avoid stripping pipes, nuts, or bolts. Additionally, the Cobra's newly redesigned adjustment provides 30 percent more gripping capacity than previous models. A simple push of the patented push button adjustment maintains jaw size setting and gives you the correct size opening every time. Just position the upper jaw to the workpiece, push the button, adjust the opening, and close the lower jaw. And it's easily done with just one hand for trouble-free operation in confined spaces. Cobra water pump pliers are constructed from chrome vanadium electric steel, an innovative high alloy, oil tempered steel that ensures longevity. And their thin head design helps you get into spaces other pliers can't, so there's no need to change tools when working in tight confines.

I was carrying two sizes of channel locks for the little things and the big. These cobra pliers are nice because they have a huge adjustment range, they are easy to set, they LOCK into each channel, and there are a lot more slots giving better fine adjustment. Worth the extra $$. I'm not all in on Knipex as I don't think it's always worth the extra money, but they do have some very nice tools.

I own the cobra pliers and a set of the plier wrenches. They are both great products but when I am wearing gloves it can be difficult to push the button to adjust them, especially with the plier wrenches. These are so incredibly easy to adjust. I was shocked to see that I could even adjust them with one hand. As a refrigeration mechanic, many times I need them when I am in a tough spot. One hand adjustment and easier to use with gloves on means so much to me. The only drawback, and it is a tiny one, is that if you are working on one piece for a while and you put the quick set pliers in your pocket, they tend to adjust their size smaller while in your back pocket. That is a rare problem which to me is just part of any new feature. They are expensive, and if you don't ... MoreI own the cobra pliers and a set of the plier wrenches. I love all of Knipex's products, but these are the ones I carry in my back pocket all day, everyday at work.

I really like all Knipex pliers, but I'm not convinced about the quick set style. I have every size of cobra, but I'm still considering buying a set of normal cobras in this size just to get one with the normal adjustment feature. The quick set style only stays put in one direction. If you push them close, they slip, but you have to push the button to make them adjust open again. This sounded like a good idea, but I just find them getting bumped closed a notch or two when I put them down or try to wrestle them into a small space. I'd much prefer a set that stayed put in either direction until I wanted it to move, like all the other Knipex pliers. Perhaps these are useful for someone, but I'd rather the regular ones.

I'm an industrial mechanic. I Have used this item multiple times since buying it in May. Today, the lower handle snapped off just in front of the grip. This is unacceptable performance for such an expensive tool. I have six other Knipex toolsall of which I bought new this yearbut this makes me question why I spent the extra money for what I was told were quality tools. I'll now get to see what Knipex's warranty is worth, as it's beyond the return period for Home Essentials Direct. Update: Knipex initially refused to honor their warranty but finally relented with pestering, and maybe because of the 1-star review I left. They have sent a replacement, and I now feel whole and give them a 5-star review, because the tools really are excellent.
My dad has a pair of old Knipex alligator style pliers that are so old they say "made in West Germany". Ok, maybe that's not that old, but still they've been around since the 70's or so. I remember using them as a kid and 40 years later they still look pretty good. The teeth on his old pliers are still reasonably sharp, enough to still be useful. So, when I needed a new set of adjustable pliers the Knipex seemed like the right choice. I like the quick set mechanism style on these Cobra's. It is just a tad faster to use versus the older style and still locks in place just as well. The workmanship is flawless, the teeth are sharp and super hardened. I'm confident I'll be passing these pliers down to my boys some day in the future (hopefully far into the future).
Skookum as frig! These are top of the line 'channel lock' pliers. easy to use, incredible grip, long lasting, forged and machined, perfectly engineered, slim profile fits in all spaces. better than most pipe wrenches. seriously. I can't recommend them enough. the only downside is that they will 'find legs and walk away' if you dont look after them. maintenance dept (and everyone else) will steal them if you leave em layin around. they work as pliers sure, but they also work as a wrench in a pinch. better yet tho they work as a straight up pipe wrench and out perform most of the pipe wrenches you can find at home centers in the us.
These pliers are by my opinion the best pliers you can buy. Especially talking quality. They have many better features than the irwin groove lock. Jaw is more narrow for better versatility, jaw can close on physically smaller objects which is very important and the jaw opens more for the same size irwin model. Oh ya, you can also replace the spring loaded mechanism if for some reason you would ever have to on the knipex. So if you are a professional using the tools on a regular basis, knipex is your brand.
They sent the wrong one. But I do not plan to return Im kind of a fan of the model they said a much more slim narrow design although its not a quickset but its still a push lock pliers which I am you too Ive been a Tongue and groove user but I think a If you push lock pliers in my arsenal wouldnt hurt. As always knipex has the quality and the strength Needed it for the field!
Was sent incorrect model of knipex cobra not the 87 22 250!!! Very disappointed and returned.Make sure they are sending you the knipex.cobra with multi component grips and the quick-set model with RED button, not a blue button or silver only button. The knipex cobra newest red button quick-aet are the only "channel lock" pump pliers I own. Stay away from NWS and Irwin's rebranded NWS Pump Pliers. The teeth on them don't grip well because how they are angled asd the mould used to make them.are sloppy which is odd.for.any german made tools...mainly the only ones I care to own and use as a Master HVACR Tech.
you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't like these things. They make for great workflow. Suggestions to Knipex would be maybe to make the ratchet mech. a bit more smooth, and the button is kind of wonky. Id like to see a tighter more precise button and a different spring thats not so easily caught on loose clothing threads. It would make these a pair of pliers that I would be willing to pay big bucks for. That being said, I'm not sure pliers really get much better than these.
