The but ton is a PIA…. I would return them if I had kept the package. They made the job much tuffer and harder. Hard to get to right size and the they freely slide back to smaller size causing you to have to reset them again. Save your money by another non button type.

A bit too "high tech"

Bought it for the granularity of selecting the jaw width. Thought it would be better than a 3-position adjustable pliers. In using it so far, I am finding the button to operate the width selection to be rather temperamental. The button is only for opening the plier width. You've got to press it just right to release it from the teeth. But once set, it too easily slides the width down if you don't have a good grip and position on the pliers. It should hold it's position. It's really a bit too "high tech" for my needs.

Awful and annoying to use.

"Pushlock" is not the best description. Maybe "slip out of position" would be a better way to describe these pliers. Finding myself in need of bigger (10in) pliers, I went straight for DeWalt as I'm a fan. I made a mistake with these. The pushbutton rarely unlocks the pliers to a bigger mouth opening. Then, after struggling to get these at the desired opening size, they slip back down to smaller within 0.4 seconds. Totally useless. Maybe they'll work better as a hammer.

The push-lock mechanism is easy to use after a few times, and allows the user to quickly unlock the jaws to open them as wide as needed, upto about 2 1/2” (jaws parallel) or 3 3/8” at full spread. Technically it's a push-UNLOCK button, and it operates a spring-loaded bar with teeth that grip mating teeth in the slot cut into one of the handles. Only time will tell if it holds up under use, but at least there is no thin bolt that can loosen as found in channel-lock pliers. Pushing on the movable handle easily closes the jaws against the desired item with a one-way ratcheting motion – the jaw separation gets smaller but can't get larger without pushing the lock/release button. It's a very convenient alternative to traditional channel-lock pliers, which require trial-and-error for the correct channel setting to provide a firm grip. It's also much safer – it's virtually impossible to crush fingers between the handles when closing, as I have done too often when using channel-lock pliers. It takes some practice to hold the handles properly while sliding the jaws together; the tendency is to grip the handles in the closed position while sliding the jaws together, but that leaves no room to squeeze the handles for clamping pressure on the jaws. With practice it can be done with one hand, but it's much easier as a two-handed operation. The handle length provides an 8” lever arm, which means a lot of force can be applied to the jaws with average-strength hands. While I'd prefer slightly more cushion to the handles, overall, this is a GREAT tool - design and manufacture is excellent. Never again will I crush my fingers between the handles of regular channel lock pliers!

Completely unusable garbage

The ratchet does wtfe it feels like and coincidentally that's never what I'm trying to make it do.The angles are all wrong, the grip is cheap, narrow, uncomfortable and awkward.Trying to use any size setting will immediately slip the gears, ruin your grip, make you pull the tool out, shake it around, smack it on something, repeatedly press the button while trying to move the jaws just to have it randomly let loose when the button is not depressed and crush your finger.Copious swearing will ensue. Good grips but the adjusting screw was very tight in the thread. The trouble seems to be that, unlike other makes, Knipex has cut a part-thread into the inner part of the handle. This was causing the screw to bind, and the thread was also not completely clean. This partly-threaded section also seems to restrict the opening action of the jaws as the arm end catches on the thread as the jaws expand to their widest. These faults do detract from the quality of the tool. I like the thinner jaws for access but some jobs might need a thicker grip.

Honest review, I rarely review stuff online but on this one I felt the need to. The quality and finish are top class, the grip strenght u can feel from when u clamp the material that it will hold and never let go! I worked with them on the cladding industry and clamped heavy materials, but I was never worried that it will fail or lose grip. Buy with trust, worth the extra penny over the Stanley ones...or irwin etc. Oh and if u ever feel the need to search for better clamps, try the Facom ones, or Beta brand's. :)

The product is fantastic, strurdy, strong and does exactly what it's meant to do... really well... spend the extra few pounds and get this. However, first one from Home Essentials Direct was in a damaged box and had obvious signs of being used, dents, marks and even damaged jaws, which as I later found out isn't easy to do. I sent them back, got a fast replacement, but same problem, obviously not a new pair. The second pair had no jaw damage and needing them for for job, I used them and love them. Feel a bit cheated by Home Essentials Direct, but product is great.

They look good... and that's it. Poor Irwin nock off, the lock button stucks when you try to adjust the grip width but doesn't hold and closes quickly with the slightest movement and you need both hands to adjust the width again. The vise grip doesn't hold as well. Anything else works much better- Channellock, Irwin, even the very unergonomic Milwaukee. Dewalt makes exceptional power tools but that is not the case with their pliers.
