And a 3 wire 12 gauge romex cuts as well, when you use the leverage of the 8 inch handle.The tether hook is nice for an alternate way to hang on my tool board. I'm not a tether kind of guy, but it is there if you need it.A quality tool for all purpose wire cutting. This was a good choice.

Ive been in the electrical trade for 25 years and have tried all the top brands. This was my first knipex purchase. The comfort is excellent and the precision is top of them all. BUT!!!!!! The squeeze effort required is 25% more than my Kleins. Cutting 14/2 feels like 12/2. The More effort required to cut may sound trivial but at a 100 cuts a day,5 days a week, x years, it adds up to wear and tear on the body. I still got to give my tool of choice to Klein.

No knock on Knipex, their tools are of the highest quality and these diagonal cutters are no exception (5 stars). However, my rating is based on the fact I paid full retail price and was sent an opened and lightly used product. Under normal circumstances I would return them and order a new pair, but I’m an electrician who’s hastily replacing all my hand tools after my entire tool bag was stolen — so I don’t have time to squabble over the situation. This could’ve been avoided if HD would just stock Knipex in-store instead of online only.
The comfort is great. Better then any I ever owned with a comfort grip. Love the way it felts in the hand and while working. BUT, I was not as impressed by the performance of the cutting. My Klein tools red handle comfort grip. Is way more better for cutting like butter. I see a lot of comments about these knipex dykes lasting long then their Kleins. Perhaps that is true since I barely got these knipex in. I tested both in comparison on cutting at home with 12 awg and 12 awg. Insulated , bare and while in the sheathing of romex. Mid wire cuts, and at the tips of the wire in all 3 aspects. The Klein is smoother and cuts like butter. I can cut slowly with the Kleins and its smooth and no extra tension the whole way while cutting. And I mean real slow. With the knipex ... MoreThe comfort is great. But in comparison to my red comfort grip handle Kleins, the Kleins win and I wish I didnt spend the extra $$$ on these knipex. I do have to say, after cutting for a while on the test. The knipex got smoother. And I took them to work and etc. they seemed to be smoother on cuts. But the Kleins still win and its noticeable. If you dont need a new pair , while being a Klein tools owner of dykes. Dont bother. Otherwise get these.
The quality is absolutely there however the unit I received had a couple of issues. 1) the rivet is not flush with the surrounding metal when pliers are fully open. Im not sure if this is because they have the angled head which makes that difficult or if its just a quality control issue. 2) after about 10 cuts through 14 gauge wire I can see light shining through the blades when the cutters are fully closed. This absolutely should not happen especially considering the material I was cutting through. I contacted Home Essentials Direct and they reimbursed me for the cutters.

They look a little funny with the grips being asymmetrical, but they really do work well that way. The grips are on very solid, they seem very unlikely to come loose and slide off.After a months of daily use on a construction site (electrician) you still can't see daylight through the cutting edge. Fantastic.One thing you'll notice about German tools compared to their American counterparts is they use a different type of steel that is more flexible. You can notice it, when you really squeeze on these cutters there is a little springyness to the handles. This makes the steel less likely to break, its not a sign of low quality materials. You can easily feel the quality of these cutters. If you cut a piece of paper, it snaps with perfect precision in a laser straight line. Then you grab something like 14/2 romex and it cuts smooth as butter. With cheaper cutters, it's one or the other. If you get a cheap cutter that's sharp, it dulls when cutting hard items like metal wire. And if you get a stronger cheap cutter, it's not precise enough to slice paper.The grips are very comfortable and allow you to put a lot of force with ease. Sure, you can find a cheaper cutter but if you plan on using these a lot, you'll be very glad you bought them. I hope they last me a lifetime and I expect they will. VERY satisfied.
cutter gapless, jaws aligned, surfaces smooth, pivot rotates effortlessly. good price for a German tool. I replaced my 40-year old workhorse Channellock which i now realize was never very good at above features. why did i wait so long? now i am replacing all my Channellocks and asian tools with Knipex, one at a time.
