It provides extra power for sure. However even with the reader powered off, if left in the cover, the reader somehow still drains the covers battery when both are charged fully. When stored separate both batteries stay full.

Great accessory to the Kobo Sage. I was initially confused that it doesn't have its own power port, but the integration is perfect and ensures that the Sage itself is always charged before the cover starts drawing power. Extends the battery life significantly. I generally prefer to read without the cover attached when laying, but sitting it's just fine. The stylus slot is also integrated in a clever fashion, using the battery as a magnet to lock it in place.

This works great and I would give it 5 stars, except that it only works great... 90% of the time. Otherwise there are a lot of issues -- they mostly seem like they are software or can be fixed in software. Basically, the main issue is that when I close the cover for the sage to go to sleep, it will often enough to be annoying not wake up again when the cover is opened. I have to take the sage out of the cover and hold the power button down for 10 seconds.I don't know if this other issue is because of the cover. Sometimes the page turn on the kobo stops working. I don't remember this happening before I got the cover, and it seems similar to the above. It doesn't work to close and open the cover or anything.Again, this is amazing otherwise, else I would give it 1 or 2 stars, but because it works so well when it isn't having a problem, I'm giving it 3 stars. Also, I've often done QA, so I'm used to buggy stuff, so I might be rating bugs as less annoying than average. Please fix this Kobo!! You need to put a lot more effort into your QA process, or beta program!

The cover needs a hole placed where the on/off switch is located. Taking the cover off to reboot the reader when it becomes non responsive is a pain. The reader seems to freeze periodically when reading a book (side loaded or downloaded)Firmware upstate needed. The book is fast and the screen is highly readable otherwise
The cover is quite nice as a cover and stylus holder.Beyond that, since the cover has now power indicator, nor does the Kobo Sage provide details on its status, it's quite difficult to rate it as a power cover. I have no clear notion of how long it extends the runtime of the Sage or even if I'm getting an extended runtime, as I don't even know if I'm charging it up.
I doubt this cover extends the battery life. All it does is block the power button when I have to remove the Kobo Sage to restart it to get it to work again. It protects the e-reader but is also clunky and adds so much extra weight.
The cover is fine, but Kobo should have added the access to the ereader power button on the cover. They did this on the older H20 cover and it should be on this.Right now it adds unnecessary removal of the cover to power it off
Does not seem to improve battery life much at all. Covers the power button at the rear so Kobo has to be removed every time you want to access that button (which seems necessary because otherwise the device stays on and drains the battery constantly).I have checked the Kobo settings to ensure that it is set to turn the screen off when using the sleep cover, makes no difference.
Bought this Sage PowerCover Case awhile back and have found it to not make a very big difference for my Kobo Sage ereader. It does prolong battery life -- uses it's own charged up battery life to extend the ereader -- so that you can get a little more out of the Sage before it begins to use it's own backup power. However,it's hardly really noticeable other than having a good magnetic holder for the Kobo stylus pen.Essentially, not very essential.
I have now purchased 2 of these power covers and in both cases the cover will not consistently wake up my reader when opening the cover. My original boring cover works just fine, so the problem is obviously with the power cover, not my ereader.
