Love this film. My experience has yielded true-to-life colours and lovely detail. I've found that you have to be bob on with exposure to ensure detail in the shadows and prevent blow outs in lighter areas, such as clouds on a sunny day, (standard rule though, right?). I've captured some of my favourite photos on Ektar and I like the reliability, but slight challenge attached to it. I don't think its quite as obvious in terms of film 'feel' - results are maybe closer to digital look rather than the depth and atmosphere you get with other films (haven't explained that at all well). Perfect if you aire on the side of sharper, more digital photo look and feel. Still, really worth trying!

I had super mixed feelings about this film before I tried it. In talking to people about it and reading reviews, everyone seems very divided on it. But, after shooting some for myself, I think it's my current favorite Kodak film! I'm usually not a huge fan of Kodak's typical color pallet, so I really like the cooler and more contrasted look of this film. I do wish there were some kind of higher speed option available, but I'll still shoot this film whenever I get the chance!

First colour film I've shot in more than 20 years, so bit of a work in progress. I'm after a colour film that has that different feel to digital, not sure this is it yet.Colours turned out punchy but very warm to my eyes. Some of my skies blew, like some other peoples' sample shots, but when I shot through a polar (upright of the boat with fluffy clouds...) it went to the other extreme.I've got another roll, so I'll maybe reserve judgement until after I've shot that.

Ektar 100 is a classic at this point. Everyone and their mom has used it at least once, and most people have likewise fallen in love with it. Kodak claims its the finest grained 100 iso color negative film. Of course, it's much more of an advertising mechanism than a selling point. E6 slide film is sharper, has more dynamic range, less grain, and all that good stuff; but the colors are ridiculous.I shoot Ektar for the way it transforms my photos. It screams film photography, but still comes out professional and presentable unlike some grainier, older, and cheaper color negative films. Slide film does boast quite a bit more, but it loses something in the process that I can't quantify.Otherwise, in terms of its iso, I've found you can do plenty with 100. Moving up always puts you at risk of adding quite a bit of noise, and I've found that if you're shooting wide open enough you'll more likely than not manage. Obviously, that all depends on what you're doing. Don't shoot this at night, you'd be asking for trouble.I've had some pretty good results pushing this film up to two steps. The colors are a bit less depp and you lose some contrast and dynamic range (as well as introduce some noise) but thats all expected. If you're in a stitch and need an extra stop of light or two, shooting this at 400 is still absolutely usable (just note it for when you send it in, or add a couple of seconds in your dev bath if you're doing it at home).All in all, its a great film, you wouldnt go wrong getting yourself a couple rolls. Its my go to for sure.

I spend a lot of time in Ireland where I have family and the weather is even worse than here in the UK, so I often pack it. How you rate this film will ultimately come down to personal preference but if you are looking for somewhere to start, I have had results that I am happy with by rating at ISO 80 and metering for the shadows.Cons:1. I tend to use it for landscape and some travel photography when the use of colour is a crucial component of the composition, however it is let down by its often unfaithful reproduction of skintones; Portra remains my go to film for that. That being said, I enjoy shooting this film and there is always a roll or two in my bag. Give it a go!
If you like saturated colors but don't want to spend the money for Fujichrome Velvia 50, then Kodak's Ektar 100 is just the ticket. It's sharp with lovely saturated reds and yellows. Sometimes scanners don't like Ektar and will bring up your beautiful blue domed sky as an almost light-ish green color but that can easily be fixed in "post" using the color saturation panel with the cyan drop down. Slide the cyan's hue a little to the right and Ektar "pops".

Having spent the last 20yrs shooting only digital I thought it was time to dabble again in film. Whilst I originally intended to shoot only B&W it didn’t take long for me to be tempted to shoot some colour. Whilst this film is comparatively expensive the results are extraordinary. The film is very sharp and the colour reproduction is superb. It is highly accurate whilst maintaining the film look we all crave. I really need to get around to shooting other colour film bit it’s hard to turn away from the Ektar.
I shot this photo on a Nikon FE and a Nikkor 28mm 2.8f AI. I used nearly half the roll just testing out various exposures and lighting on this image to see what Ektar is like and also to test my newly aqcuired camera and first roll of film in 30 yrs! My main conclusion is that it likes to be shot at 0ev, or even down to -1ev. There's plenty of latitude up to +2ev in the highligts but even at +0.5ev there is an unpleasant yellow wash to the colours which just gets worse as you go up the stops. Also, this was taken on a sunny day and this image came out best with light cloud cover and a flat light. In bright sunlight its very yellow. Not shown in this image are any portraits and for me the skin tones were very pink.
