This is one of those products that I am absolutely grateful to have happened upon in the pet store one afternoon while shopping there for something completely different. My dog is older and although still full of charm and life, he is set in his ways and is quite picky when it comes to, well, just about everything. That being said, I was skeptical to say the least about getting him a product that I wasn’t sure he would take to or not. It hasn’t been easy on the wallet figuring out his likes and dislikes, mostly the latter, but he’s worth it nonetheless! I saw this one that day and for the decent price it was listed at I figured it would be worth a try. The first time I tried to play with him, I got only stared back at like I was crazy. I’m not sure why or how that is so, but I’m just happy I gave it a shot because you never know.

My 15 yr old chi doesn’t have that many teeth but he loves too use the ones he has. It’s been an on going struggle to ring a treat that he won’t inhale but also won’t get bored with. When I saw him trying to pick up my foster Pit’s giant king, I immediately went out to get one for him. I was thrilled to discover the softer rubber model for senior pups like mine. It’s firmer than the puppy kings but softer than the traditional model. He absolutely loves it and it keeps him busy for hours!

We love our KONG toys. My 7 year old chiweenie loves his! To be quite honest, I don’t think he’s ‘senior’ enough to need the senior one, but I got it just in case. It’s soft, but not too soft. It’s more firm than the puppy one though. This is the small, and it’s the perfect size for my little guy (11 lbs.). I do have to wedge it in between the couch, but that’s because he’s lazy and won’t give it the time of day if he has to hold it. It usually takes him about 10-15 minutes to finish it, and that’s with me putting it into the freezer with peanut or almond butter in it! Always remember to create an airway between both ends!!

Love a purple Kong
9 March 2019

I'm not entirely sure what makes this a senior's kong except that it feels like it has a little more "give" than the red Kong. It isn't as stiff. I bought 2 of these for 3 reasons.... 1) My 60 pound dogs ARE seniors (12 and 10 years old) so I figured I would give these a try, 2) I have red ones and thought I should have a different color in order to try to keep straight which ones I've washed and which I hadn't washed yet, and 3) probably the most important reason of all.... purple is my favorite color and I am pretty sure it is my dogs' favorite color as well. How do they like this Kong? They love it. I don't see a difference in how they treat this vs the other kongs (we also have a pink puppy kong even though there are currently no puppies here). I stuff this with treats and peanut butter and put them in the freezer just like the others and they go to town on them. These seem to hold up just as well as the others but keep in mind my dogs aren't rough chewers. I would probably buy the black kong if they were.BOTTOM LINE: Another great addition to the Kong line up. Whatever you do, please don't tell my dogs these are meant for seniors. They still think they're young.

Love it!!!!

My lab is 13yo and having trouble getting around. He gets frustrated and will bark for hours if we don’t give him some form of entertainment or attention. He also has shown signs of dementia and anxiety. I had bought him a regular extra large Kong (he is a massive size dog with a strong bite)to help him with all of the issues. I had read that dogs with his symptoms could calm by having something to lick and focus on. I tried the large regular Kong but he never really got the treats out. So I tried the senior one. Much better! He loves it and it keeps him occupied for long periods of time. I fill it with different treats, and then put peanut butter in the hole. He will keep at it until he gets every last bite in there. He doesn’t like the treats sold to go in it, so ... MoreMy lab is 13yo and having trouble getting around. But I have found cheese sticks, ham cubes, apple slices, carrots and peanut butter make him happy. He has given my family so much over the last 13yrs and I want to make sure his last years are comfortable for him. The senior Kong has become a huge help in meeting that goal.

Perfect for my senior chewer lab mix & my chihuahua who had teeth removed
14 July 2019

More pliable than the classic red Kong, but still sturdy enough to withstand lots of licking and chewing. I got the medium and the large. The medium is quite small, surprisingly, so I may upgrade to another large for my chihuahua to keep it from being a choking hazard, but haven't had enough time to see how he adjusts to it from the regular (I guess large) classic red. My kiddos really like this senior Kong and I can tell it's easier for them to manipulate to get peanut butter and treats out of. I've only had them a couple of weeks, but so far have not had any issues with them coming apart from chewing or from washing on the top shelf of the dishwasher to sanitize. Very happy I made this purchase!

Perfect for older dogs
15 July 2020

I have a 9 year old Chihuahua mix and I can't remember the last time she played with a toy. She just doesn't seem interested. Plus her age has affected her teeth and gums. Hard things can sometimes cause her gums to bleed a little. I bought this because I recently purchased a large classic Kong for my puppy and one day I turned around and my Chihuahua had it in her mouth packing it off to steal the treat inside. I thought I would buy her her very own more suitable one. She doesn't do much chewing on the toy itself so far but she absolutely loves to get treats out of it. Very glad I bought this. And I do have hope that it may reignite her long lost love for toys.

Seniors Need Chew Toys Too!
27 December 2020

A few years ago, we adopted a senior greyhound with bad teeth (she only has a handful of front teeth left now after extractions over the years). We have since fostered several younger greys and have purchased various toys for them. Our senior lady seemed interested in the standard Kong (with treats of course) but we were hesitant with her bad teeth. I came across this softer senior version and despite not being able to feel it in person, decided to take a chance on it. I put some peanut butter in it for her, and this is one of the only toys she has actually chewed on in her few years with us! It feels durable like you'd expect from Kong, but it is soft enough that I don't worry about her doing damage to her teeth and gums! One thing I will say is it on the small side for a greyhound, so I definitely keep an eye on her while she's playing with it.

The hole is too tiny for a golden retriever!
5 December 2020

I purchased this Kong for my senior golden retriever. She's on the smaller side (70 lb in her youth, 78 lb now), with a "thin" snout. I wanted to get her a toy that'll keep her occupied for a while since she's showing some signs of dementia and anxiety. Overall, the size of the toy is good, but the hole is tiny. She's not able to get her tongue in, and after about 5-10 min, she'll get bored and ditch it. I haven't tried freezing just yet, just peanut butter and shredded chicken. It does smell like rubber, but I think it's a smell that'll go away with some time. I washed it with soapy water and that seemed to help!

This one did not disappoinment me
17 September 2022

Even though this is a senior kong toy my aggressiver chewer has destroyed yet. It is perfect for putting a few treats in it and plugging up the hole withe peanue butter and keeping it in the freezer for those times when you need to keep your dog occupied or to help with seperation anxiety. It is a bit too small for every day play for my 9 month old lab but I didn't purchase it for that purpose. I purchased it for the sole purpose of putting a few treats and peanute butter, then freezing it. It is perfect for that for my girl!
