The idea of the ropes inside the body area great. Makes it harder for my chewers to tear up the body. In fact, they've had them for a couple weeks and there's minimal damage to the body. The head, however, was chewed apart in a matter of minutes. I just cut that part off and they're happy to play with the decapitated toy.

LOOK AT THE STITCHING ON THE TOY BEFORE YOU GIVE IT TO YOUR DOG!This turned into a real choking hazard for my dog! I think mine was Defective... it wasn't really sewn together very well. Keep in mind my dog is Medium Size 25 pounds. She was able to rip the right arm off in just a few minutes and tried to swallow it (aka choking hazard). Extremely surprised to see the arm come off so quick! Had to open her mouth and pull it out. Good thing I was watching.I threw the toy immediately in the trash.Very disappointing and quickly horrifying... I got the Fox version of this toy and it was great which is why I bought this one. Buy the Fox Version!

Our 2ish year old herding mix absolutely loves these. After about 9 months of play with the fox, we bought the hippo as a back up/to rotate cause he finally managed to undo some stitching. He loves the squeakers, it’s great to play tug of war with the sturdy inner rope, and it’s easy for him to carry around the house (he loves to bring one to guests when they arrive). Very cute and much more durable than any other soft toy.

I like the Kong floppy knots because the are great for throwing in the house. The have enough weight that they go a good distance. They are also easy for the dog to carry. I like the hippo and the fox best bc my dog chews the ears off every toy. The elephant and bunny ears cause a bigger concern for ingestion and look sillier if I cut them off as a preliminary caution. The dog chooses the hippo consistently if they are all piled together (prefers the color maybe?). I buy the “small/medium” for my 8 lb poodle.
Held up very well (only missing his ears, hands and feet after ten months). The hidden squeakers and sewn in ropes kept my pup engaged and happy as I can see him figuring out where the squeakers are in the toy. Thankfully these toys are sewn very well and the squeakers stayed INSIDE the toy. It was botha chewy and a lovey. I just ordered eight MORE toys from Kong through Pet Flow - their customer service and pricing plus fast shipping cannot be beat!
The "bones" of this toy are rope. It's covered with a relatively tough fabric. The rope, unique as an internal piece, is why this toy is so durable. My "kids", 3 German/Dutch Shepherd mixes, at 12 weeks, 30 lbs each, being the land sharks that they are have not destroyed this yet. They destroy or get bored with other toys (but love the Kongs). I see them playing tug of war with this toy daily. When I toss it in the washer, it comes out looking like new. I'm glad I got three of them.
My 1 year old pointer Tuula loved this toy for 3 days. It is now in the trash because she found the squeaker. The nose of the hippo was easily accessible for her. Great toy if your dog doesn't have a thing for squeakers. Unfortunately, mine now finds squeakers fascinating and accessible. I fear for the rest of her Christmas presents.
These two toys are not for dogs that like to chew. I was sent a second set of them after I let customer service know that my two dogs, one a 75 lb black lab and one a 30 lb lab/husky, tore them apart for the second time within 30 minutes to an hour. So the description that it’s for big chewers and that since it’s made from knotted rope inside is inaccurate. This product is not well made. It’s still filled with stuffing as well and a squeaker that my dogs almost choked on. Thankfully I monitor them when they have any type of chew toy or bones. I don’t want a third order of them so my dogs can choke on the stuffing and squeak balls inside of them right away. It’s not a safe toy. I’d like a refund and the descriptions should be edited to not mislead pet parents.
Because I bought this toy knowing it would be shredded by my super chewer in a matter of minutes, I gave it a five star rating. My pittie loves toys she can shred and toss around. If you have a super chewer and you want the toy to last, this is not a toy for you. I recommend this item only if you like to provide toys that satisfy your dog's natural instincts to tear things apart. Otherwise, I only recommend it for light to medium chewers.
I have in the past bought the Kong Fox. Actually, it seems to be my 1 yr. old labs favorite so I've bought many because as much as Riley seems to love it, it does eventually need replacing. I think Riley thinks he is on a fox hunt so when he has it, he feels the need to kill it. ha, ha I was hoping that the hippo would last as long as the fox always did but it didn't. I gave it to him on Christmas evening and two days later, both squeakers had been removed(yes, I threw those right away) and all of the stuffing. He is quite the chewer though. So, the only thing left is body parts, minus the ears. lol That's why I only gave it a 4 star rating. If you want one to last, I would say definitely go for the fox one.
