I bought a pair of these a year ago for myself to use hunting and found them to be superior to the Steiner Rocky's that I used for the last 15 years. I drew a moose tag this year and bought this pair for my buddy that is coming along for the hunt. He hasn't seen or used them yet, but I have no doubt that he will love them. These have the same internal prisms as those used in the Zeiss Terra ED binoculars which are so popular for their brightness and clarity. These Kowa's are made in Japan and are made with high quality components and are well built. For a compact binocular, I have found none other that compare with the brightness and clarity of these in this price range. A nice binocular. Could use a second hard stop near all the way out, as is you got only all the way in on the eyecups ( for glasses wearers) or all the way out ( as a hard stop) which is ok but for me absolute perfect eye relief is a tiny bit short of all the way out. Focusing is very aggresive and takes some getting used to to not go past your mark. Optics are not as bright as the exspensive Swarowvskt CLs and as good as they are, the CLs are clearly better. Kowa are a liitle bit lighter. Focus wheel turns harder than some may like, but fine for me.
Pros: Good, solid build, feels a real quality optic.Excellent eye relief, I have no problems using them with glasses. The colours are true, with no colour casting, and chromatic aberrations are virtually non-existent. Focussing is very fast and takes a bit of getting used to, but the binoculars seem to have a good depth of field, so I find exact focussing is unnecessary. Overall an excellent pair of binoculars. Also these are made in Japan, with all the quality you would expect. If you are looking for a top notch pocket binocular, these should be at the top of the list.Cons: Haven't found any negatives with these, very, very pleased with them.
My wife and I travel and hunt and know good optics. I bought a Zeiss Victory Pocket bino's to take on cruises and have as a handy lightweight bino. My wife wanted small binos too (Her regular binos are Leupold 10x50 Heavy). I did research into these Kowas and took a $250 chance. To my surprise they were right up there in image quality and brightness with my Zeiss Victory Pockets at 1/3 the price. They have fantastic build quality and feel too. You pay a lot for the Zeiss brand name, If the Zeiss name does not matter to you, the Kowa is a top bino for 1/3 the price. On-Line research has manny positive reviews as well.I'm now looking at the bigger Kowa to replace a super heavy Swarovski.
A long time optics snop, I bought these to knock around with while teaching my small kids to birdwatch from a golf cart during this Covid-19 pandemic. They cost a third of the big three and are 80% as good at resolution, definition and color transmission. A really fine glass, rubber armored and durable. Kowa is known for its spotting scopes in shooting circles. That's why I tried these. Tremendous!
Goes without saying not as optically good as my Zeiss Victory 8x32s--or even my Nikon 10x42 HGs. But very sharp and very bright for a small pair of binos--and they're so easy to carry I find I bring them almost everywhere! Also, the build quality is top level. These little guys are rock solid with no slop in the focus knob. None.
I purchased these binoculars for birding use. The reason I was looking at a compact or pocket sized binocular is that I wanted something to carry when traveling. I carry an Olympus m4/3 camera to photograph birds and I did not want to add a lot of size and weight to my camera bag. My wife has a pair of Swarovski 8x20 pocket binoculars that are excellent in low light with fabulous image quality. The Kowa BD25-8s measure up nicely by comparison. The image is very sharp, colors are accurate, the low light performance is excellent, focusing is smooth but not too light, and the diopter is easily adjustable and stays put once adjusted. The close focus of under 6' is very useful for butterfly and hummingbird watching. These binoculars are a little large for putting in a ... MoreI purchased these binoculars for birding use. These binoculars are a little large for putting in a pocket but they have a nice case (lens and eye caps for keeping dust out) and a comfortable strap so they are easy to carry. The rubber armor gives good protection while providing a no slip grip. These binoculars have an excellent build quality.
I was looking into a lightweight reasonably good quality binoculars for all-around use. I did some research and this was one of the highly recommended binoculars, probably the lightest of this quality on the market. It is waterproof, can focus reasonably close and the build quality is excellent. Now, bear in mind that this is 25x8 binocular and the exit pupil is kind'a border case, meaning it can be used with glasses, but it's not that easy. This is by no means a flaw, as at this size and price range one cannot expect miracles. I was also a bit concerned about the low light performance, 25 is not much, but I think it's alright - I used it a few evenings looking at a moderately lit city and it's quite usable. One thing that can be improved is some sort of lanyard for ... MoreI was looking into a lightweight reasonably good quality binoculars for all-around use. One thing that can be improved is some sort of lanyard for the lens caps - they are all separate - 4 of them and can be easily lost. I just pulled a string through all of them and tied them up to the strap. Not a biggie. For frequent use one can remove them altogether. The case is also very nice, real leather, soft and closes well. Highly recommended.
