Just got this scope about a week ago and was finally able to get it out in the field at a local refuge. It's hard to describe the amazing color, brightness and clarity when looking through this thing. It's difficult to pull your eyes away. My previous scope which is a mid range Swift Nighthawk and which I still retain since it is a straight eyepiece and useful for a car window mount and which I thought performed admirably absolutely paled in comparison to the Kowa. I am looking forward to many years with my eye glued to the eyepiece of this truly amazing instrument.

It has a very wide field of view and every little spec of it is absolutely crystal clear. The scope itself is tuff - keep it in the pack without a cover, and I have dropped it a couple times, and it certainly has flown many times from the front seat into the dashboard, and I have zero issues from any of it.

First set it up on a dark day looking through the window and thought it was ok. Finally had sunny day and got wowed by how sharp the KOWA glass is. At night I could just make out the bands on Jupiter. I want to get the 1.6 extender. Shipping from B&H went perfect.
Great spotting scope with easy zoom and focus possibilities. Very sharp and clear view even when zooming very close. The possibility to attach your DSLR camera with adapter is great additional feature. B/H had fast and reliable delivery!
This is one of the best scopes on the market right now. Excellent glass and wonderful viewing experience. Easy to dig-scope. Love the new lens objective cover design that keeps the cover in place! Huge improvement there. I have to agree with other reviewers that the plush green bags the scope and eye piece come in are of little practical use and I'd rather pay less for the product and skip those altogether. Or, if a storage bag is to be included, it should be one that is actually functional and protects the optics.
Having dreamed about it for a long time, I finally went for it and it doesn't disappoint! It is a great spotting scope as I already new, however, the biggest letdown for me was the packaging. The scope came on a super big fancy box that I guess Kowa designed trying to impress their customers, box that I doubt it's worth keeping. The box included a soft material bag apparently for the scope, that leaves a lot to desire. It doesn't offer much protection for the scope for transportation and I don't see any good use for it. I'd be embarrassed to show the packaging to any of my friends. A total waste of effort on Kowa's part. A little spotting aid also included in the box, seems like an afterthought. This scope replaces a previous Nikon 82 mm lens scope with brilliant color and clarity! Excellent at long range viewing across the zoom range, and for closer views of birds it is extraordinarily sharp and awesome crisp imaging. Love it, looking forward to years of use.

I often wonder how well the rubber protection coatings hold up after decades.-Actual crystal lenses.-The incredible focus system for fine adjustments and course adjustments.-Dual tripod plate screws on foot.-sights on the rubber sun shade for easier pointingFits well into my short distance walking birding trips. Would ideally complement this with a much smaller scope for backpacking. Nothing beats the resolution and low light quality.I've seen other reviews complaining about the leather green bag it came in. I owned a number of top rifle scopes, bino, and spotting scopes. As a serious long range shooter and enthusiastic hiker & nature observer, I can say that Kowa TSN-88 does not disappoint. The image quality is so good - the resolution, contrast, CA control (I cannot see any), view of depth, field of view..etc on this thing is on par with Swarovski ATX, but it costs 1000+ usd less. I also prefer KOWA's zoom ring design. Love this thing and highly recommend! my experience with B&H is also stellar. Order placed on Tuesday, received the scope on Saturday with regular shipping option.
