Kwikset Single Cylinder Deadbolt with Smartkey Satin Nickel Finish

Quite easy to install on an old metal security door. The finish matched the other hardware perfectly. 4 of the included screws remained unused; 2 didn't fit the older holes behind the plate around the bolt itself, so the original screws went back in. I've used other Kwikset deadbolts and really like the Smartkey system. It definitely met my expectations.

I bought this as a replacement for a job in case it was needed, I didn't need it.I do not like SmartKey.Home Depot sells Defiant locks, the Defiant deadbolt has a solid metal rod for the tailpiece, rather than a thin metal slat, or a thin rolled-metal tailpiece like Kwikset has, and they have added a piece of hardplate under the scalp to deter attacks on the mounting screws, and 5 anti-pick 'spool' drivers in the cylinder. The metal spindle in the entry lever and knob sets is now made of plastic.That being said, the older Kwikset hardware is VERY good, and has always FAR exceeded it's expected lifespan. I'm just not a fan of the new stuff.

The same old problem of trying to line up the screw holes so you can get the screw started and tightened. I’ve dealt with this for years, though I remember one manufacturer who altered the inside screw hole so that you could start the screw into the outside portion then attach the inside with the screw in place by making the hole shape such that the screw head slips in, you rotate the inside unit slightly, then tighten it all down. So much easier. It’s not easy to paint a picture with words to accurately describe how it worked.The rekeying to match my current house key was simple. That’s a very nice feature.

I received this free from influencer in return for my honest review. This was very easily put in and worked very well. We looked into it to see what brand of keys may work in this ahead of time and found out that you do have to do your own research of finding the brand that works with this to use this. While using this we found it was a bit tricky at first of making the keys that go into this work but it was quite nice as we lost all the keys on our key ring and it's less heavy now. This can work on any door in the house and not have those heavy keys hanging on that key ring. I would definitely recommend this if you have people coming and going instead of having all these keys for all different doors. It's a very sturdy lock and a very trusted brand

Be Careful Buying Kwikset Deadbolt Locks

Lock mechanism was too wide for the doors we bought (through Lowes), so we ended up taking all 3 back that we purchased. When installing the locks, the screws attaching the inside locking plate with the exterior key lock plate were too long (by about 1/4"), so that the lock could not be tightened to the door. These were standard doors, so don't know why they're not standard locks. We ended up going back and getting Schlage locks vice Kwikset. The Schlage locks, although much more expensive, fit the doors perfectly. Guess you get what you pay for!

Easy to Install

I had a smartlock that needed to be replaced prior to selling my house. I was able to install this lock very easily in less than 10 minutes. The easy rekey feature is amazing! I was so worried that it would be difficult or not work, but it was simple and effective - in less than 30 seconds. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised with how easy everything was from start to finish - would definitely recommend!

High Quality - Great Price

I liked the overall feel of how smooth it felt to close the lock without any effort, yet how sturdy it was. It was very easy to install and just needed a phillips screwdriver. The color also closely matched the previous deadbolt I had, so no painting required, which was a plus. Overall, a great product at a great price.

You can get as many as you can keyed alike, but also use differing keyed locks and change them with SmartKey, This deadbolt is their economy model. It does not have the fit and finish of the step up model, but it costs half as much. If price is an issue this is a great deadbolt. If paying twice as much works for you, I would do it since there is better fit and finish with the step up along with a more secure mounting.You can mix and match types and key them all the same. Prepare for some extra work

I installed five of these bright brass deadbolts. The brass exterior is good. The smart key feature works well. There was one problem. The lock assembly is held together by screwing two fine thread bolts into tapped holes in the assembly. For all five deadbolts the righthand screw hole had somewhat distorted threads. I corrected three of the items by carefully screwing in a proper, hardened bolt before attempting installation. I could not correct the remaining item because there was a burr in the threads. I was forced to use a tap to reestablish the threads. All this was more work than I had expected.
