We liked the original formula and smell. Not at all interested in this really bad version. This soap was the primary reason for shopping with L'Occitaine. We will not likely buy from you again, until the old formula is restored. Why on earth would you take an excellent product and ruin it? The only reason would be a directive from your accounting department to cut costs and make what you can off of your name only. I suggest you go back to customer-centric products for your customers, and not your accounting dept. By the way, this approach never works.........

I've been using nothing but this soap and verbena since 2014 on my daily showers. I buy dozens of bars in a year: online, at the store, and even in Paris.I remember when I first purchased it, it was so pleasant, and smooth. Then it was reformulated and smelled like the shea butter creams, so not bad, but reformulated/changed. And then, the latter reformulation in the last 2 years....it's just not good, or special....just smells cheap. Please, please, L'OCCITANE listen to your customers, bring the original shea butter soap scent back. Pleeeease!!!!

I have been using this soap since I worked for L'Occitane in 2002. When I first noticed the formula change in April '21 I immediately went to both my local stores and purchased every last one of their old formula bars they had left. Sadly I just used my last bar and had to use the new formula bar I purchased at the time of discovery and it was even worst than I remembered! What on earth was L'Occitane thinking changing what was already the perfect bar of soap. It smells horrible now and though I am sure that was not the intention it most certainly ruined it for me.

To everyone who used to use this soap "before" they supposedly changed the fumula I'm sorry this didn't work out for you, however I was at Disney Springs and happened to find the L'Occitane shop with this soap a couple of years ago (I assume after they changed the fumula) so I have no idea what it was like before I started using it so I imagine I may have not like it before. I love it since I started useing it. I has a mild very pleasant milky sweet clean fragrance, and I believe it does moisturize my skin. I usually use hand made olive oil soaps or soaps with not very many chemicals and this one is mild and feels silky on the skin. When showering I feel milky sweet clean. This is not very perfumy. And like I said, it moisurizes my skin like no other soap does. So to anyone wanting to try it out and you've read negative reviews, try this one out. I'm very sensitive to perfumes and heavy smelling soaps. I use essential oils instead, and I love the scent and feel of this soap. In fact I came on to purchase a couple of bars today!
I have always bought the 100g size of L'Occitane soap and this used to be their standard. They also produce a 250g bar which is huge, and I had to cut in half to fit my hands. Not keen on the new price; this size used to be around £3.00 and £6.00 for the 250g. Alexis keeps introducing the 50g and even smaller sizes, which are not cost effective in these times and only suitable for giving to my granddaughter, who is also a quality soap addict. Having said that, the small size still holds its shape right down to a thin sliver, without breaking up.I had the opportunity of visiting Provence a few years ago and buying lots of the local soaps. I would love to see L'Occitane resurrect their old soap recipes. They smell divine and improve with age.About 10-15 years ago, L'Occitane produced all sorts of wonderful varieties of shea butter soaps in this 100g size and sold on QVC. Among them were Bourbon Vanilla (which was chocolate brown colour), Chestnut, Cinnamon Orange and Sweet Lemon. I held on to them for many years, but they are now long gone. I would love to see their return. Cinnamon Orange had a complete range and very popular. Patchouli would be wonderful too. They still produce Verbena and Lavender, of course.
I have been using this bar soap exclusively for as long as I can remember. So much so, that I buy a year's worth at a time. I wish they had noted that they changed the formulation. The new formula is not nearly as rich or smooth and has much cheaper feel. I am now looking for a new brand of bar soap. It's such a shame that they changed a classic formula for what I assume is a bid to make more money by replacing it with a cheaper quality soap that costs more money. Would happily have paid more for the previous formula. Let your customers know that there is a new formulation! So disappointed with L'Occitane.
Like most people say, don't change for the sake of changing. This applies for L'Occitane signature essential, the milk soap...As described by many, the smell of the soap is unnaturally strong for a gentle soap... For someone, who is sensitive to fragrances, the updated version is definitely a no-go for me.Fortunately, I have managed to retrieve an old L'Occitane bar soap (made in 2016) from my treasure trove of soaps, and decided to make a comparison. The old soap is still naturally fragrant though it's 5 years old from the manufacturing date. The smell is not overpowering like the recent editions (2020 palm oil version, 2021 extra rich version). To my surprise, I noticed that the colour of the soaps have changed from milky white to brown, getting darker with every update.I also noticed that the "Pur Vegetal" or "Pure Vegetable Oil" label has disappeared. In the latest edition, the "Extra-Gentle soap" label has been replaced by "Extra Rich soap". As someone who requires a gentle vegetable based soap without a stinging fragrance for my face, I'm deliberating if I should forgo L'Occitane for my toiletries, which I have been following for many years due to their milk soap.If a company doesn't keep to their traditions, it is likely they would lose a group of loyal customers who have been supportive to a signature product for years...Don't change for the sake of change. If there is a need to justify production costs to maintain quality, do inform loyal customers to make an informed choice whether to accept your products at an increased price.I hope L'Occitane does not lose its soul from the intentions of its founder Olivier Baussan. I still love L'Occitane for its products, but the change in production methods for its signature items are making me think twice in getting more products
We keep this soap in a sisal bag to use. It suds up beautifully and creates a rich foam to wash with. The smell is divine and my husband loves it more than me (I am an almond fiend).I love how it leaves my skin soft and doesn't strip my skin like most soap will. In fact, I find my skin enriched after using this soap. My husband loves the feel of it and how his skin is after washing. No itching, no dryness. Just how our skin should be.I also love how long this soap will last as well. This small bar has just kept on going. I put it down to how rich the soap is and a little goes a long way. Some may lament the change but we certainly don't. I just purchased the large bar today for my husband's continued enjoyment.
I questioned the fragrance when I bought the soap because I did not like it. I brought it back to your store and the salesperson in Bridgewater told me that the fragrance had not changed and she thought that the soap was picking up fragrance from other items in the store. If she had been honest, I would have exchanged for Lavender or Verbena. I've been using this soap for years but am not able to use this due to the fragrance. So disappointing.
I have been using this product for 20 years. I have very sensitive skin. I almost did not try it due to the negative reviews. I felt the need to write this review to share my thoughts, in hope that other people would also give it a chance. The new version is creamy and lathers well. It feels very luxurious. I feels like you are washing with a lotion. It is great for shaving your legs. It feels much better on your skin than the previous version.. Both versions have a strong scent initially when you first remove them from the package and place in the shower.. This version in my opinion is much better.
