I bought this prior to my annual trip to Ouray Ice Park. I found them to be light, and precise and to climb well. I did have to wear additional ankle socks to ensure a solid heel lockdown but I have narrow heels. The Boa system is great. I could loosen and tighten the boots easily depending on approach or climbing activity. The boot is just warm enough but I did get cold toes on our coldest day though it was in the single digits and we were around 8000 feet compared to our usual 900.

I was sized at the La Sportiva store for a 38 but REI doesn’t carry anything lower than a 38.5. Really too bad since most women require the smaller sizes. I shopped around at other local gear shops and the lowest they carry was a size 40! I bought the 38.5 and will try thicker socks and maybe inserts to see if I can make something work else I will have to buy the smaller size directly from La Sportiva. I thought REI had expanded their size range to be more inclusive but I keep running into this problem again and again.

I spent the better part of the ice season on these wonderful boots. Would recommend 100% I have tried different boots including the P techs and I really love the fit and performance of these so much more! The Boa dials in fit, and they are stiff enough to tackle anything I can throw their way. Beautiful construction. I have used them on steep ice and mixed, in negatives to plus 40. I’ve done 2 hour approaches in them, and leave them loose and comfy for that. They feel like little Ferraris on your feet.Crampons- I had to add a few clicks on the tension bar as compared to the Nepal last. The fit- I’m a 46, narrow volume and wide toe. These boots are tailor made for my feets. Way better fit and walking AND climbing performance than the P techs in my opinion.I love ... MoreI spent the better part of the ice season on these wonderful boots. One of the lightest things you can put on your feet, and you can climb overhanging WI in it like a dream as well as scramble slabs and hike rugged talus. Only downside is the UL outer shell will tear if your crampons make contact with it and it is very challenging to repair to a level where you are confident it will not take on water/ moisture.Make sure to wear a sock that extends past the cuff otherwise sweat from your feet will not leave the boot, I guess that is a testament to its waterproofness.I have used this boot for WI5 cragging, Mixed climbing 5+ in no fall zones, heel toe camming in steep wide cracks and blasting speed linkups on steep snow/ ice climbs. I have even jogged on snow and rocky trails in excess of 90 mins with minimal to no issues. When moving fast on hard snow or trails you must have the boa and inner strap at the right level of tightness to gain control over the boot otherwise it feels a little clunky, but then again you are jogging in a hard boot so that is to be expected. As far as the boa being a critical component, on the outside, I was very happy and impressed that it never got damaged stumbling through talus, posting into icy snow and putting my foot in places you would not expect.Truly a next level boot!!
