La Sportiva designed the Stickit to adjust to the growing foot of those monkey powered crimping machines also known as kids. While kids feet are growing it is really important not to cram them into small shoes so the bones and muscles can develop unhindered. The lacing system allows the heel of the shoe to adjust so kids can get the best fit possible and parents have to buy fewer pairs of shoes. The lace that wraps around the heel can be easily shortened or lengthened with a simple knot and easily replaced if needed. Ideal for climbing indoors at the wall or outdoors at the crag.

I had comically small feet as a kid, and when I started climbing at age 11 the climbing store recommended these. They're definitely a good intro shoe for young kids, but not for that age. I'd recommend these highly for any kid up to 7-8, but after that there are much better kids climbing shoes that they can get. Also, the closure system is problematic. It's very thin and when I had to get rid of the shoe, it wasn't because I grew out of it or the rubber wore down, the string had torn. The idea is great, but it needs to be improved on.

My four-year-old daughter has been rockclimbing for about six months now, and continues her interest in climbing. We were using the shoes at the gym, but I wanted her to be able to climb even better. That’s why I bought these, and they’re awesome! She look like a spider climbing, sticking to the wall and climbing higher than her norm!

The lace system behind the heel is a clever way to add heel retention in a shoe that may not be able to fit as spot on as adult shoes and is comfortable enough for young ones who are fussy with shoes. The build is more like a slipper in support which helps with an age range that may not tolerate the discomfort of an aggressive downturned fit. Our 2.5 year old (a bit small for her age) is not quite big enough for the smallest size but we can still make them work. We have a home wall, so they see a decent amount of use and have held up well. I have another little one getting to the right size, so I’m going to be buying a second pair and two pair of the next size up.I feel like I have to respond to the other review about lace durability… the pic shows a grommet ... MoreThe lace system behind the heel is a clever way to add heel retention in a shoe that may not be able to fit as spot on as adult shoes and is comfortable enough for young ones who are fussy with shoes. It’s a highly unusual place to be dragging feet and additional rubber there would make the shoe unusable. These are shoes for beginners and beginners will make mistakes like toe dragging etc. The damage there is a learning experience, not a product failure. For the record, I have some pretty sloppy footwork and I have 3 pairs of lace up katanas with multiple resoles running the original laces.

My daughter was really excited about these. The big gecko foot pull makes adjustment and closure simple for small hands. I felt sizing was accurate. Just like adult sizing for climbing shoes, you really need to measure your foot. I bought a 28-29 (10-11us)while my daughter had been wearing size 10 runners for a few weeks. We got two seasons out of these. I suggest ordering a size up and wearing a thin sock to start. The way the heel adjusts, it helps pull the foot forward and reduce volume so between that and a sock, you can comfortably go a bit bigger to start.
We got these for our 5.5yo. They run a little smaller than his street shoes (ended up going one size higher than the bigger size the Size Chart suggested. These seem comfortable, and they do grip like climbing shoes. The grip, combined with having ?real climbing shoes? (it?s all about the gear!) helped Kiddo overcome his limits and climb a couple of moves higher than he had previously. He also seems to enjoy climbing more. The green/yellow looks great; nice bright contrast. He didn?t like how the dark red monochrome looked.
These are a great cheaper shoe for my daughter. She climbs once or twice a week both inside (gym) and outdoors. They are perfect for her and the price is great for a fast growing kid. I have to point out I have no clue why anyone would buy these for an older more serious climber. They are designed for kids. They sell a size that would fit my 10 year old competitive climbing son yet I would never buy them for him because he would hate them and destroy them in a very short time. Basically what I'm saying is know your child and what their climbing level is. These are very intro level shoes and are great for that. If your kid is a serious climber these are not what you should be buying.
These are fantastic shoes for small kids. I have 3 kids ages 7,7, and 6. They've been using these shoes for the past 2 years. (I bought them a little big). These are not the same type of design that you would expect for an adult climber. Kids cannot, and probably should not, handle tight climbing shoes with a boomerang rand. Because of that the toe is not quite as tight and stiff as an adult climbing shoe, but that's ok. Kids are small and light enough that they don't need it. My kids paste their feet on the same tiny nubs that I use and are just fine (they only weight 50 lbs, you don't need a super stiff shoe for that). The great thing about these shoes is the ability to get them a little big and let your kids grow into them, or at least fit them for more than 6 ... MoreThese are fantastic shoes for small kids. The way the heel pulls in to snug the toes into the toebox is a great design. It has enabled my kids to get used to climbing in tighter shoes, without being uncomfortable. This also creates the same level of confidence that quality shoes do for me. I whole heartedly recommend these. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that the lace system can breakdown after a while. It's both the great part of the shoe and the weakness.
This is our six year old's second shoe. He's at climbing camp this summer and we also sometimes boulder at night (gym). He also climbs in the back yard with these shoes on. I'm telling you, they take a beating. They are comfortable on his feet, unlike his last pair. He can easily get them on and off, and he hasn't complained that the design is "babyish" which is always (apparently) a concern. Sigh. To some of the other complaints, at some point let's exhale and acknowledge this is a $40 climbing shoe; good climbing shoes are now $150-190. I wouldn't purchase these for a young, avid climber who has finished growing, I'd buy something heavier duty and more expensive.
Sizing was very far off. The shoes were tiny and did not come close to fitting. These were supposed to be size 2 equivalent. I purposely ordered them large and they were still way too small. Had to return them.
I am honestly surprised at some of the not so positive reviews for these shoes. Our Stickits have been absolutely fantastic. We have 2 kids (now 6 and 8) and bought each a pair almost 2 years ago. The shoes are still in excellent, excellent condition. We used these shoes at least 2x/week in the gym Sept-May(x2) and multiple times climbing outside in the summers (x2). The kids even wear them running around the crags and they are still in amazing condition. Our 8 year old regularly climbs 5.9+ in the gym and has never found the shoes lacking. We have never had the laces blow out. We have always been able to get them to tighten nicely around the heel and have never had gaping anywhere and our daughter does have quite narrow feet. It did take a few minutes the first few times climbing to get the lace adjusted, but we have not had to do anything since. All of the rental shoes that they tried before we bought them these caused blisters but we have never had that happen with these. Our 6 year old has just outgrown his first pair and we will be buying him one size up. Our daughter's still fit her and I am positive they will still be in great shape to hand down to her brother when he outgrows his next pair. I am sad that our daughter is already in the largest size of these shoes. I'm sure it will be hard to find ones as comfortable and as effective as these once she finally does outgrow them.
