I wanted so badly to love these but they messed me up. I got the leather ones a half size too big and spent time breaking them in on shorter hikes but I was getting blisters so I got sock liners and made sure to wear thick socks. My feet were still hurting and I could feel the rocks a lot so I decided to get a really nice hiking insole. I thought this would fix my problem but I put moleskin patches on my previous hot spots just in case and took off on the Mount Wilson hike. Wow….one of the most painful hiking days ever. The insole made them sit funny and my heels go destroyed. I took them out and then got blisters on my feet bottoms and pain in my feet. Basically anything that could hurt on my feet did. I wanted to burn them after this one. Just not the right ones ... MoreI wanted so badly to love these but they messed me up. I returned these boots. I have two different La Sportiva hikers, a low and a mid, that I have been wearing since 2019 (I loved this brand). I bought these boots to replace my mids which are getting pretty worn. When these arrived the material didn't look durable and high-quality like I am used to seeing from this brand. The boots were slso A LOT wider than the other boots I have from La Sportiva. The other boots I have are narrow which are great for my feet. It looks like this brand has made some manufacturing changes in the past 1-2 years that have changed the quality and also the fit. Their soles and footbeds are different. Definitely disappointed!

I was looking for a winter hiking boot and wanted a heel that went higher on the ankle than the GTX did so I chose to return the shoe. It was also a bit bigger for me - Normally, La Sportiva fits me in a 7.5 (in normal shoes I wear a 7), but as this was a 7.5+, it was too wide for my feet. I also didn't love the blue colour - I prefer a brown colour for hiking shoes, feels like they look nicer and go with more hiking wear, and dirt also shows up less on brown (for obvious reasons). I've worn my Merrell brown hiking shoes and hiked in everything from red muddy soil in southern Africa to the Rockies, and they don't need anything more than a light cleaning. I think dirt would show up much faster on the blue colour. so I returned the shoe and went with the La Sportiva ... MoreI was looking for a winter hiking boot and wanted a heel that went higher on the ankle than the GTX did so I chose to return the shoe. I was very impressed with these hiking boots. They were comfortable right out of the box (no break in time required). The boots felt sturdy & well made, but weren’t heavy. There was plenty of room in the toe box. I went up a half size & the fit was perfect to wear with some thicker socks. I was worried my feet would be all sweaty after hiking in 102 degree heat but to my surprise the inside of my boots didn’t feel hot or make my feet sweaty. I prefer boots that cover the ankle so I don’t have to worry about rolling my ankle climbing steep hills. The boots provided great grip while climbing. They can also be resoled which was important to me so I could get more life out of my boots. These boots checked off everything I was looking for in a hiking boot! And they were so comfortable I find myself wanting to wear them even when I’m not hiking. The topaz color was prettier in person. I don’t need something pretty but it definitely doesn’t hurt. I look forward to many more hikes with these boots & when they wear out I’ll be sticking to this brand! (I received this product as a REI Product Advisor in exchange for my honest review.)
Pros:I was initially really happy with these as I'd struggled to find boots that fit well, the toe box is spacious without the rest of the boot being too wide. The grip is great, I've taken these on lots of uneven and rocky trails and steep declines.Cons:The construction of these boots, with the exception of the sole, is poor. With around a years medium use (weekend hikes averaging 5-7 miles), the laces from one boot frayed to the stage of needing replacement, but the lacing eyelets and D ring are narrow so it was hard to get replacement laces that fit through them, REI own brand didn't fit, I ended up using Danner laces. The material of the boots also frayed alongside the ball of my foot, for both boots. The material of the boots also frayed alongside the ball of my foot, for both boots. The waterproofing didn't fail but it seemed likely it would eventually if this wear developed into a hole. Finally, the lace eyelet at the ankle broke so I couldn't properly lace up the boots anymore.Unfortunately this happened right around 1 year although I would have felt bad returning these to Rei in the condition at that point. So overall a disappointment for the original price, I didn't even get 250 miles out of these.
I have been wearing La Sportiva boots for many years but these were a disappointment. I have narrow feet, especially in the heal, and fairly high arches. This pair fit fine in the heal but have very little arch support or cushioning and with a mid weight hiking sock, were much to wide in the foot bed and toe box (would be fine if I wasn’t going to be hiking in rough terrain). I didn’t wear them outside but the sole feels thin and suspect I would feel rocks easily. I am also skeptical of the lower tongue “eyelet” consisting of stitched in lightweight cording The stitching is substantial but lightweight cord for a tongue eyelets that take on pressure and grit seems like a bad idea. The good: well made, good soles and materials, and attractive. I will be returning.
I don't normally wear hiking boots, and prefer trail runners even on multi-day backpacking trips. However, I needed some boots for a 4-day trip to a rainy, muddy, cool-weather destination. I like that these boots have a wider toe area and are lightweight but sturdy. They felt comfortable overall. However, they give me weird blisters on the bottom of my big toes after lots of miles (12+). I've never had shoes that give me blisters in that place! I wore them when I had to and was grateful for them, but switched to my trail runners when I could.
My first impression of these boots is that they are lightweight at 1 lb. 9 ounces with a roomy toe box and they were comfortable right out of the box. I wear between a women's size 6.5 and 7 and the 7 fit well. I took these on some local hikes with rugged terrain and some elevation gains and declines. I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable these were right away, no breaking in needed. They provided ankle support for hopping around rocks and traction on some steep and dusty inclines. I also tromped right through several stream crossings and my feet stayed perfectly dry! I was expecting smooshed toes for the multi-mile elevation decline and was amazed that my toes had plenty of room and felt great when I reached the bottom of the mountain. These boots are an interesting mix of ultralight hiking boots plus more traditional higher over ankle hiking boots. At least for me, it doesn't quite land. But let's talk about all the good features. These boots look and feel like a traditional mid to heavy duty hiking boot albeit feeling very low weight. The color is a nice blend of dark teal and dark grey for a pleasing combination that stands out a bit from other shoes without being garish or in your face. The traction is strong and the materials are well made and soft right out of the box. I had no issues with blisters and even when wearing short socks (not crew-length), for short walks/daily use it was pain free. The laces are easy to tie and cinch the boot well. I had no issues with blisters and even when wearing short socks (not crew-length), for short walks/daily use it was pain free. The laces are easy to tie and cinch the boot well. I have narrower feet and was happy with the feel - enough space for my feet to swell if needed but not too boxy or large feeling. The material seems to breath well and wasn't overly hot. I didn't test a full immersion of the boot but never noticed any wet feet after some longer hikes so the GTX appears to work well. However, the arch support was lacking and after a couple of hours of wear my feet would get tired and sore rather quickly. Changing out the insoles didn't seem to make a large difference. I think it's the fault of going ultralight, there just isn't enough cushion or support for longer treks (even with very lightweight packs, < 15 lbs) or even longer days off trail. I typically use a trail runner shoe for hiking now as I am keeping my pack weight down, < 20 lbs for 3-5 days. I find my trail runners (below ankle) much more comfortable for hiking and equally supportive.I could see this shoe fitting well for someone looking for more support than a typical trail running shoe (below-ankle) gives but still keeping the weight down for longer hiking. I do have weak ankles and frequently turn them so this boot was attractive. However, it just doesn't seem to fit me well. I'm mostly using them for homesteading work at this point as an easy to get into, breathable, and supportive boot for chainsawing, yard working, and carpentry. Overall an interesting take on a taller more supportive hiking boot that keeps the weight very low.
So I bought these over a year ago and have hiked them quite a few times (max 16miles at once)and then finally decided that they would be the shoes I would use to do rim to rim. About mile 15 I had excruciating pain on my ankle - the pressure and how the boot pushed on my ankle, made the hike almost impossible to finish. Not the boot for significant distance. Of note I hiked Rim to Rim in oboz previously with no issues.
