At first I was put off by the weight and bulkiness of these trail runners but after trying on a bunch and comparing their features to what I was looking for, I went ahead and purchased these. I’ve worn them for almost 100km of trail, and its safe to say these are the best trail runners and/or hiking shoes Ive ever worn. They are comfortable for long distances, the rubber is sticky so I feel safe on scrambles, and they are highly breathable. I highly recommend these for anyone looking for long distance trail runners with a sticky sole!My only complaint besides the bulkiness is, I wish they had loops so I can put a biner through.

I have a narrow foot and read that La Sportiva was a good shoe for women with narrow feet. I wanted a hiking shoe, not a boot, with waterproofing if possible. The Paramus NJ salesman I had recommended a trail runner rather than a hiking shoe. This trail runner is also made for hiking and has more cushioning than the equivalent hiking boot, making it more comfortable to me. Although not narrow, i can tie the shoe tight enough that my foot does not swim in the shoe. And it is waterproof. I don't love the color, and wish there were other color options (but after hiking once the beet color is dusty now and not as vivid!). So I bit the bullet and paid more than I normally do to get everything I wanted.

I tested the Women’s La Sportiva Ultra II across roots, wet, never-ending rocks (Pennsylvania kind!), and through thick mud. Right out of the box these shoes were comfortable and I was ready to see how they performed. My typical all-day shoe size is 8.5, but I found a size 9 was the best fit to accommodate the thicker hiking socks and a little movement room. The grip across the varied and, somewhat treacherous, terrain provided better traction than I’ve had with my beloved Oboz Sawtooth II’s or my Salomon Speedcross 5’s. Throughout several trail adventures the Ultra II’s performed with excellent responsiveness and agility, which was needed as I sought to get a close view of waterfalls along the trail of “Rocksylvania.” The foot protection built into this shoe, toe ... MoreI tested the Women’s La Sportiva Ultra II across roots, wet, never-ending rocks (Pennsylvania kind!), and through thick mud. These shoes aren’t in the lightest category, but neither are my previous favorite hiking shoes. I prefer to have the awesome traction and protection offered on the La Sportiva Ultra II’s that is lost when making a more lightweight model. All told, this is the perfect shoe for anyone looking for a shoe who are on trails needing the best grip, foot protection, and comfort for miles. If you are looking for a waterproof shoe to traverse across smooth trails, a lighter shoe may be your better choice. For me, I’ve found my new favorite hiking shoe and plan to put 100’s of miles on these this year.

Beautiful, high quality trail shoes. Would have given 5 stars just for the looks and construction, but the toe box is so narrow I couldn't stand in them without my feet hurting. I am a true size 8 in all my running/hiking shoes and have these in the non GTX model in a 39.5 which fit perfectly. But when I ordered a backup pair the same problem occurred - too narrow in the toe box! Length perfect, so I guess I got lucky with the one pair that was wide enough to fit correctly. If you have NARROW feet these are great trail shoes, good arch support, stability, traction and comfort. Built to last!I like these so much that I may try again to see if I can find ones with a slightly wider toe box. Shucks! I purchased the GTX version of the Ultra Raptor after having worn three pairs of the non-Gortex ones, so am confident I know my size. And I know the Ultra Raptor, or though I did until these, which I have decided to return. I wear these for hiking on trails and long-distance walking (10-14 mi/day). I am disappointed in the GTX version, although the same size as the other ones I’ve worn out, these seem to run small and they are narrow so I’m not confident even sizing up would do. I will instead go back to the Saucony Peregrine GTX, another of my go-to shoes for long hikes and walks and every day wear.
I've always enjoyed running and I've always enjoyed the woods, but never together...UNTIL NOW. The Ultra Raptor II's are surprisingly sturdy, light, comfortable, and breathable for a few miles on a trail. I don't necessarily have the strongest ankles, so I've always been more careful on trail runs, but NOT ANYMORE. Imagine taking a quick turn as the trail winds and a slippery or muddy branch under your turning foot. Now imagine your Sportiva's grabbing hold of the terrain and keeping you steady on your feet. That's PRICELESS. I already knew sportiva from rock climbing, but now my trail game has been elevated, too.The negatives? "Is this going to feel different halfway through my run and will I have to re-tie my shoes?" is the question I ask myself as I gear up and head to the trial head. So, the laces, but that's a replaceable component, and so far, the only negative.
Wow. This is a beautiful shoe in Ink/Topaz and the quality of construction is impressive. I am a US size 8 in all my hiking/running shoes and the 39.5 fit perfectly. Except. When I ordered another pair as backup the toe box was so narrow it hurt went I tried it on! Too tight to even contemplate trying to stretch them out. Don't know if that was a one off defect or maybe the pair that fit were just made a bit wider in the toe box.I also bought the same shoe in the GTX model and it had the same fit defect, too narrow in the toe box. I have average feet, not wide, and high arches. On the positive side, the pair that fit have good arch/heel support, amazing stability, flexibility, and COMFORT! Would have happily kept all 3 if not for the narrow fit problem. May try to ... MoreWow. This is a beautiful shoe in Ink/Topaz and the quality of construction is impressive. Out of the box, my first impression is that these are very pretty shoes. (Pretty enough the female tween in my life tried to steal them!) I love the jewel-toned teal. It gives a feeling of light iridescence.I have avoided "trainer" type shoes for the last 20 years because they feel too heavy and "clunky," but these are neither. Although there is a deep sole, significant arch support, and light ankle support, I feel like I can move freely. The sole is angled to promote good running posture and prevent stress damage. I tested these running on concrete (which I never do due to pain) and I couldn't pound my heels if I tried. While the sole is thick under the heels, the sole is thin and flexible under the toes. I can move easily and I can feel the ground, which is necessary for safe trail running. The toe-box is roomy without being too big, and the textured soles provide good grip for attacking boulders and gravel (and even piles of mulch!). I go barefoot as much as I can, and I really appreciate being able to feel the ground even when wearing shoes. There is a plastic toe-guard, but it is cut in on the edges to reduce weight and bulk. I did not find it getting in my way. These shoes allowed me to move quickly and fluidly on rapidly-changing terrain even though many of the dirt areas were boggy due to Spring storms. My only complaint about these shoes is that I found them hard to get into. The attached tongue wasn't able to open up as much as I would like. Once on, the shoes did get a bit hot, but this was minimal compared to other brands I have tried. I usually wear much lighter shoes, so I think people who commonly wear athletic shoes would probably not notice either of these.
I wanted to love these shoes. I liked the style and the color (sooo bored with black). The quality looked promising with the toe guard and the waterproofing all of the way around the footbed. However, after walking in damp grass for 20 minutes, it felt like my socks were wet around the toes. I wasn't walking vigorously enough to be sweating and the grass was certainly not high enough for the water to be coming in from the shoe opening. I've only owned these shoes for 6 weeks and this is probably my 5th time wearing them so they are not worn in any way. I looked long and hard for a trailrunner that would actually keep my feet dry and am incredibly disappointed. I will be returning these.
I wanted a hiker that wasn't a boot but wanted it to be waterproof. I tried on many, and these seemed to fit my foot the best with an excellent heel lock. I have pretty narrow heels. They go up high enough on the ankle that I didn't feel like I was going to get annoyed, and the low coverage of a shoe. I broke them in on a 3hour hike to the Sea to Summit trail. If you know the trail, it's not just a path but lots of rock slabs and roots, streams, snow, and uneven ground. I liked how the stiffness of the shoe allowed me to have to confidence to move quickly but wasn't restricting like an aggressive hiking shoe. The soles are amazingly grippy on wet and dry rocks; wet roots were ok until they were slimy, then not. It even performed nicely in the heavy snow we ran into. ... MoreI wanted a hiker that wasn't a boot but wanted it to be waterproof. It wasn't very good on ice, but thankfully, there wasn't much of that up there. I had no trouble doing the hike in them fresh out of the box. Someone told me this company fit very narrow, but I don't find them uncomfortably narrow like the "on clouds".
