The Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman 2nd Edition Guinness Cask is an exceptional special bottling that combines the rich history and craftsmanship of the Lagavulin distillery on the Isle of Islay with a modern, creative twist. This edition, a tribute to actor and craft enthusiast Nick Offerman, has been specially designed to unite a passion for wood, craft and whisky - a perfect companion for fans and connoisseurs alike. Lagavulin, once the flagship of the early Islay distilleries, has won the hearts of connoisseurs worldwide with its smoky, intense whiskies since its foundation in the 19th century. The iconic 16-year-old, which was introduced in 1988 as part of the Classic Malts series, is particularly well known and has surprisingly quickly become a favourite. This 11-year-old Offerman Edition builds on this heritage but offers a unique, innovative maturation. The whisky was first matured in refill and rejuvenated American white oak casks before being transferred to Guinness casks for four months. This special post-maturing gives the whisky an additional dimension: in addition to the typical Lagavulin notes of intense peat smoke and maritime spice, nuances of dark malt, roasted coffee and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of dark chocolate unfold in the glass. The finish is long and complex, with a harmonious balance of smoke and the characteristic flavours of the Guinness cask. The Lagavulin 11 Year Old Offerman 2nd Edition Guinness Cask is a successful combination of tradition and innovation that honours the distillery's heritage while breaking new ground. A must for lovers of smoky whiskies and friends of unusual maturation experiments.

Does not compare to the 16 year. Average complexity and finish. Also, barren scents on my dry glass the next morning. A simple trick I use to identify underlying notes.

This bottle was ordered specifically to be a show piece. I understand that often the whiskey is drank... crazy right... and this would have been perfect in that case. In this one... even though it was very well packed in a sturdy cardboard box. The display box (thin cardboard) was bent and damaged. It does display just fine in the bottle so still a win. Just fair warning to all. Sometimes the packaging will not be pristine.

It's 11 year matured Lagavulin, nothing more.
30 June 2021

You may be surprised why I gave Lagavulin 11 year only 4 stars. I love Lagavulin but the marketing of it being aged in Guinness casks fell short for me. It's still a great bottle of heavily smoky, and peaty Scotch we all know and love but nothing more or different. Maybe my pallet isn't that defined to tell. It's priced between the 8 year, and 16 year but skip the hype, and marketing and spend the the extra $13 to get the 16 year.

Liquid smoke and fire.

Christmas gift from my daughters. Liquid smoke and fire... Great finish with prime rib. Try sipping it whilst eating pistachio's.

Not As Shown

While the whiskey quality is there, you aren’t getting what is pictured. I bought this as an anniversary gift thinking the whiskey would come in the beautiful paper box that is pictured, but it didn’t. It came in an obscure box, late, and was delivered to my door by a little boy. I understand that part is on the shipping company, but Mash and Grape should use a better shipping company. Literally a child who couldn’t be more than 10 dropped it at my door and then they drove away. Didn’t ask for my signature or anything. Good thing they got the right house. Super disappointed that this didn’t come as advertised. Now I need to find a box.

Thank you Nick Offerman!

It's funny that this is finished in Guinness casks, but they had to get the casks from Baltimore.I'm a fan of Lagavulin 16 but I think I like this even more. Has the same flavor profile with delicious cocoa/chocolate chip cookie overtones that make it extremely drinkable.

Unique AND Tastes Great
6 June 2021

Someone else in a review said the Guinness barrels didn’t come through for them but I had the complete opposite experience. Not only could I smell it in the nose, but it came through in the pallet as well. I REALLY enjoyed this scotch. The finish is pure Lagavulin 11. If you like Guinness AND you like Lagavulin, you really can’t go wrong. Is it the best scotch I’ve ever had? No...but it is definitely unique while also tasting extremely good. And that combination is hard to find in whiskey these days. Especially scotch.

Very good and bold
22 October 2021

If there’s anything to say about Ron, is he’s simplistic. This is the same with this scotch. Give it time to breathe and you get the Carmel, and bitter chocolate, and some sea salt. Then it finishes with an amazing smoked bacon and the bite of the Guinness barrel. Recommend with a mild cigar. Mades for a great night talking with friends. Cheer’s

Will have you on your way to being an (Offer)man!

Not only is the product spectacular (and not for the weak willed!), but this purveyor of fine elixirs is one to behold! I had a slight issue with my delivery and it was immediately handled by the lovely folks of Mash&Grape. Knowing I'm dealing with such an honest and helpful business has made me gander to an empty liquor cabinet and think of such sweet guests to come from this place. M&G, you know what you're doing, and how to win repeat customers. On to the next bottle of Lagavulin! Even this one again (when it's back in stock;)
