If Lamy is going to title a product as "dark", I wish they would go all the way like they did with the Studio LX all black ( in relation to the grip nib and finials ).With that said, I followed suit with what I did with the Dark Forest ( 8-4-2021, " with a twist" review ), swapping out the silver grip with a black one ( well the silver ring does add flare to it, but can't find a pure black one ) and the silver nib with a black one. Now I'm a happy camper with this pen. With 29 Lamys in my collection ( and counting ) the writing experience with Lamy pens have always been a positive one for me. ( well, in my mind ).The Studio is a well made product with the price to match it....with or without the silver grips, which I still have on some of my Studios because the grips go with the given color and I really don't have the slippage with them ( just me ). Studios are hard to beat as a fountain pen, I applaud Lamy on this product for sure.

I received a matte black Lamy Studio with a medium nib as a gift from my wife. I like a solid pen with some weight to it and this is just about perfect. The construction is very precise, everything fits flawlessly. It posts well and weight and balance are right on. The medium nib is fantastically smooth. I’ve since swapped it to a 1.1 stub which is just as nice. My main criticism for this pen - and the reason I deducted a star - is the grip section, and not for what you think. I happen to like the chrome finish. I don’t think it is any more slippery than a very smooth resin or polycarbonate grip on other pens. What bothers me is the tapered shape. The way I hold pens, this causes things to feel constantly misaligned and uncomfortable. The way I hold pens, this causes things to feel constantly misaligned and uncomfortable. This is certainly built like a “workhorse” pen but I find that I get a cramped hand very quickly and cannot use for anything other than short notes. I understand the design here, it was to eliminate the “step” from the grip section & barrel as well as to have a smooth design while capped. I am an architect and have spent decades drawing & writing with drafting instruments that have thinner barrels and tend to grip a bit higher up, so for me this fatter tapered section isn’t my favorite. I do currently have it inked and use it with hopes of finding a comfort zone, but I usually give up and rinse it out and grab another FP instead. Sadly I don’t think the 2000 would work for me either since they seem similarly shaped. If you have calibrated your grip to drafting and technical instruments and are sensitive to grip size & shape this may not work for you and you may want to avoid it. However if the fatter tapered grip doesn’t bother you, then this is absolutely a 5-star pen just get one!!!

Looks may be subjective, but pen lovers rarely dislike a well-made black pen with a stylish clip. Even if one does not fall in love with this design, there is nothing to dislike about it. It is a slim, but not super-slim pen that holds nicely in the hand - even if one is a big man with large hands. Most importantly, the ink flows perfectly but is not too wet that it does not dry fast enough on the paper. The nib is slender and sturdy. I have the Fine point which writes almost like a medium. The nib moves smoothly across the paper except at a certain angle one can feel a slight scratchiness. It won't bother most writers and some might like it because it makes the pen feel 'alive'. But the scratchiness is what stopped me giving this a five-star.

TL;DR | The Palladium Studio is an excellent writer that would be great for most fountain pen users. I wish I had tried it before buying it, as it does not quite fit my tastes.I bought this pen as my everyday workhorse, and in that regard, it is an excellent pen. This was my first LAMY, but after reading several excellent reviews I thought it would be a great addition to my modest collection. I love pretty much everything about this pen. This pen is understated and does not draw any unwanted attention when I am using it out in the world. While it looks fancy, it does not look out of the ordinary while I take notes and I don't think anyone would walk away with it. While it looks fancy, it does not look out of the ordinary while I take notes and I don't think anyone would walk away with it. The shape has the best ergonomics of any pen I own, and the palladium model has an excellent tactile feel. I prefer the weight of metal pens, and this pen feels balanced posted or unposted. The famous propeller clip looks as good as expected. While many complain the grip section of the Studio is slippery, the Palladium model has an excellent grip with just enough texture. This is my marathon journaling pen, and I have no problem writing with it for hours and have never had any slipping. Almost every part of the pen, the materials, aesthetic, grip, weight, ergonomics, are all exactly what I want in an everyday workhorse pen.I have two issues with this pen. First, the posted cap does not sit perfectly - it has a slight bit of movement. That was shocking on an expensive pen, but it is unnoticeable during normal writing and is more of a personal annoyance. Second, I do not love the nib the way everyone else seems to. There is no question that the nib is absolutely great, it is buttery smooth, provides the perfect amount of feedback, has an excellent feed, and worked fantastic right out of the box. It writes better than any steel nib I own and is superior to almost every gold nib I own. I cannot underline enough how much the vast majority of writers would love the way this nib writes. However, my favorite pens have some "bounce" to them without adding any pressure, which creates a dynamic script with natural variation in width. This nib feels too stiff for me. It feels immovable during normal use but provides a slight flex with a tiny amount of pressure.Overall, this pen is so, so close to perfect. I would not change a single piece of this pen - except to add a little bounce to the nib.
I have been using the Palladium finish version of the Lamy Studio with gold nib for about a month. The look and feel of the pen is solid and elegant in its simplicity. The writing is smooth and consistent.During my work day I use a pen for a few words or sentences at a time. Then set it down. So a priority for me was that the pen be able to cap and uncap quickly. A screw-on cap doesn’t work well for that style of writing. So I wanted a pen with a snap on cap. I was thinking about a Diplomat Aero. I considered the Lamy 2000. But I choose the Palladium Finish version of the Studio, and I’m glad I did.I particularly like the clever way the cap clicks on to post. It posts securely without scraping the finish of the pen barrel. That was a feature I had not anticipated and its a very nice touch. Most versions of the Studio have grips that are very slick. Many people have commented on that. I’m surprised that Lamy's thoughtful engineers have not corrected that problem. A slippery grip would make the pen uncomfortable to use. That would be a deal breaker for me. I could not recommend those versions. One of the reasons I choose the Palladium finish version, is that the grip section is not slick at all. It’s a pleasure to hold and use. The Dark Brown Special Edition may be the only other version with a textured grip.My only regret is in not ordering an extra-fine nib. If you are used to a Japanese fine nib, the Studio Fine nib will seem a bit fat.In the end, this is a pen I can live with for a lifetime. I am very happy with it and recommend it highly.
The LAMY Studio in Imperial Blue is beautiful and vibrant pen. Like all pens in the Studio line, it has a very nice weight to it and the dimensions seem to fit my hand perfectly. The Studio line is my favorite LAMY offering so I am a little biased. Straight out of the box this pen has performed flawlessly and I am well pleased with it.Needless to say, as all Goulet Pen Company (GPC) customers know, GPC is simply the best vender, period. Accurate ordering, prompt processing, and fast shipping. GPC customers have to be the most satisfied fountain pen consumers in the country. The only way the purchasing experience could be better is if there were a GPC in every town and you could physically stop in, browse, and leave the store with your purchase in your hand. Overall quality of this pen is exactly what you expect from a Lamy...practical...good construction and nicely finished. The medium nib is perfect for my note taking, signature writing and work usage. I am retired, but still work a day or two a week at my old job. Documenting and technical notes are what I use this pen for mostly. My only complaint is the converter. The one that comes with this pen does not seem to fill completely, and the knob continues to spin without a "stop" when yousee the ink rising inside. The converter for the Lamy Safari etc is a better quality converter but does not work with the Studio. Overall, a nice instrument and could do with a better designed converter.
The Goulet Pen Company is my go to fountain pen retailer. As an experiment, I purchased four fountain pens from four different (one each) retailers. Goulet provided the best shopping experience and most hassle free shipping and delivery experience of the group. That earned Goulet my business for good.I am very happy I went with this next level fountain pen. The pen arrived really quickly (2 weeks, even though I don't live in the U.S.). The texture of the body feels amazing, the weight of the pen uncaped is great (caped feels a little heavy). Although at times it feels like the cap might scratch the body when uncaping, it hasn't happend to me and I believe someone really needs to be rough on the pen for the paint to peel off. The grip section was my main concern, because I haven't had a FP with a metal section and the main criticism on this pen is exactly that. Still, although I find it slippery due to my sweaty hands (the pen rolls, making the top of the nib to point sideways), it's comfortable and it has a nice weight to it. I do think I need to get used to the metal section and maybe I need to use it uncaped. In relation to the nib (F), I cleaned the pen before using it and when I filled the converter, I did it without attaching the section to it, so it took a while to start writing. At first I thought I had a defective nib, because it relly took about 7 minutes for the ink to start flowing, but after I applied a little pressure to write, the ink started flowing and it was one of the smoothest writing experiences I've had, especially with a Fine nib. I used the Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku ink (that I also bought from Goulet).Overall, the pen is great. The tines on the nib might be to close and I think that's also why the pen took a while to start writing, but nothing that brass sheet won't fix. The grip section might be slippery if you have sweaty hands, but I think one can get used to it. I will try this as my EDC and if I like it a lot, I will consider buying a gold nib for it.Lastly, I really want to thank the Goulet team (specially Adrianne and Rachel) for helping me to pick a pen and for having such an amazing service. Also, I'd like to apologize if at any moment I made it seem like I was calling Adrianne inexpert, because that wasn't at all my intention and I think I just expressed what I wanted in a really awkward manner. Anyway, I really appreciate everything the Goulet company does and what it stands for.
I was on the fence about this pen after last years Black Forest. I still can’t figure out what color that pen is. I think the lacquer has something to do with it. Because this pen has lacquer I thought it might look odd also. I’m happy to say that this pen is gorgeous. It’s a deep, rich coffee brown with a generous amount of understated, fine brown shimmer. We’re not talking Benu glitz here. This pen is definitely office appropriate. If you like brown pens this one won’t disappoint. I’m a big fan of Lamy’s matte finish but this pen is changing my mind. I’m always impressed with the value and quality of the Studio but this might be the be the best one yet.
