I am writing this review as someone who has NOT tried the old formula. I think it goes without saying that reformulations can be beyond disappointing for those who loved a product exactly as it was (I relate with different products). However, I can only review this as a stand-alone.I like the packaging in some ways, but I agree with those who are disappointed (especially in that this was apparently formerly in glass packaging). While the aesthetic of this current packaging is appealing, I really think it would be best for Laneige to at LEAST figure out how to make this a refillable system. We need less plastic for the sake of this planet! As for the cream, I like the texture. It’s that unique light/spreadable consistency that still feels quite hydrating. Lovely under makeup and/or sunscreen as it sinks into skin rapidly, but leaves it feeling nourished and soft. Laneige is highlighting their own form of hyaluronic acid (looks the same on the INCI) which is interesting but hard to speak of long term results. In the short term, I do feel this gives a plumping result on my skin. The smell is a little strong to my nose, but perhaps that is because I’m used to fragrance-free skincare products, and this contains fragrance.Overall, I’d give it 4 stars in comparison to other options at Sephora. The texture is actually really nice IMO, but the scent and packaging lose it some points.

How do I say I love this cream without sounding like a mad person? Well, it’s hard to contain because I try a lot of skincare and rarely do I ever like something enough to get a second one. I think I just might have to break that pattern with Laneige’s Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream. Contrary to its name, the cream itself is not actually blue (lol). BUT the packaging is so cute and aesthetically pleasing and although I usually don’t like the heavy fragrances in many skincare products, I really enjoy the scent of this one! This is a dependable staple that I can see myself using over and over again. I’ve been using it for a month now and I’m loving the moisturized feeling I get from it. My skin feels soft and supple even hours between washing my face and putting on skincare (it’s such a bad habit). Gifted by laneige

This formula claims to be an upgrade from just your average Water Bank, now complete with a new variation of Hyaluronic acid boasting claims of better absorption and a longer lasting effect. Topped off with Green Tea enzymes, this cream will go to work to enhance your smoothest, softest looking skin. With my chronically dry skin, I was ready to put this product to the test. This cream was much thicker and heavier than I anticipated, and I would say this is probably heavier than its predecessor. Despite its weight, I was impressed by the complete lack of oiliness, stickiness, or greasiness. The claims of fast absorption are spot on. After just a few seconds of blending, the formula vanished into the inner workings of my skin barrier. Things I noticed about this product include improved elasticity and adequate elimination of flakes from my problem areas. The trace this new and improved Water Bank leaves behind is a healthy skin effect, and not the product itself simply sitting as a film on your face. Hours later, my skin still feels soft and supple to the touch, without any tackiness all while maintaining a natural matte effect. I could go on and on, but yes, I would say this really is a step up for the Water Bank!

Excellent product

I have been using the deep-clean cleanser, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Exfoliating Toner, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturiser, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum & the Water Sleeping Mask. I can honestly say after trying so many skin products (some very expensive) that I have finally found a brand that actually works! It doesn’t take long to start working either! Despite having microdermabrasion, I had bad black heads on my nose & chin, but since using the cleanser & toner they’ve all but gone! The cleanser & toner are so effective, yet aren’t harsh on your skin or moisture sapping like other products I’ve used. I suffer with Rosacea on my cheeks. This used to be hot, uncomfortable/sometimes painful & visibly bright red. This was obviously embarrassing for me. ... MoreI have been using the deep-clean cleanser, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Exfoliating Toner, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream Moisturiser, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Serum & the Water Sleeping Mask. Since using Laneige it’s no longer an issue, as my cheeks are no longer bright red or hot. My Mum & boyfriend have also visibly noticed the improvement. I have also noticed that the scarring/dark spots around my mouth & chin area (from monthly period spots) have all but gone. I’m also yet to have a flare up since using Laneige! The serum is absolutely divine & feels like silk on your skin. It’s my favourite product! The cream moisturiser, sleeping mask & the serum are all beautifully moisturising without being oily & they soak into your skin easily. Honestly hand on heart cannot recommend these products enough! 10/10 5*

The old scent is much heavier and possibly more pleasant but the new one doesn't smell gross like everyone says. It's a light floral smell (think wishful/honeywhip-esque) that dissipates quickly. I like the finish of the newer formula much much better. It's more glass skin and less grease ball like the old one. I don't find any change in the moisturizing aspect of it. I still feel very quenched all day with just a dime sized amount first thing in the morning. It looked fantastic under nars soft matte foundation. And by itself it didn't make me sticky which is a personal pet peeve for me and I won't use creams that stay sticky all day. The poor reviews on here shock me because it's not too different from the original. For the past couple of weeks my face has been peeling and been dry for some reason. I was using the Biossance Gel moisturizer and my skin was feeling very dry in certain areas. I then decided to use a more hydrating moisturizer so I purchased the Biossance Omega Repair cream and it somewhat worked but not quite. I then remembered that I still had the birthday Laneige kit that I got from Sephora last year and decided to try the Water Bank moisturizer. Immediately this felt so nice on my skin. For years I’ve been searching for the right moisturizer and I have finally found the one. This feels so nourishing, hydrating and soothing on my skin. It feels amazing. I love it so much. I had been using a trial size of the old formula for a while and really liked it. I have to say, I like the scent and packaging of the old formula better. It has a very similar scent, but more toned down. Normally I do fragrance free, but the scent of the old formula just ended up being so nice. Neither irritated my skin at all. This one’s packaging is prettier on color, but it feels bulky. It all oozed out when I broke the seal and I almost broke a nail trying to get it off. The lid is just very large which means it takes up more space in my bag. I know the new formula technically has better ingredients. Even though it’s the cream, not the gel, it still has a very light weightless feel and absorbs quickly, so it’s nice for in the morning, especially in the summer. ... MoreI had been using a trial size of the old formula for a while and really liked it. Not sure if I’ll purchase again, just because I have other moisturizers I like, some of which are more affordable. All in all, it’s a good product, but I’m not sure if it’s worth all the hype.

Old vs New Water Bank

Skin type: Combination, Complexion: Clear, Age: 35 As someone who loved the original version of this (Water Bank Moisture Cream), I'm reviewing it to compare while I still have a little left of the original and can say I'm quite happy with it. In appearance the new Water Bank cream looks the same. The smell is a bit softer but similar, and the original didn't have a strong scent to begin with so if you found the original Water Bank cream's scent a bit strong, this should possibly be all right for you. The consistency is a touch thinner, making it come across as a little less rich or, if you worry about your face feeling clogged or caked, not as thick. Until it has absorbed fully into the skin, the new Water Bank cream will feel a bit thinner but that's all. Unfortunately I'm not a huge full face of makeup wearer so I can't give commentary on how either cream sits under foundation, contour and powders. Overall, I'm happy with the new version as it still does what the old one did and there's barely any physical difference between the two. A good cream before, especially if you have dry skin or are dry in parts, and a good cream now!

Laneige re-formulated their best-selling "Water Bank" moisturiser and it's ideal for anyone who has oily/dry/combination skin. Laneige Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Cream moisturiser is formulated with BLUE HYALURONIC ACID - which is fermented with deep sea algae. It has a low molecular weight and is 2,000 times smaller than typical HA - which allows the moisturiser to penetrate deeper into the skin (up to the 10th layer) and keep it hydrated for longer. It also contains SQUALANE & GLYCERIN that amps up the moisture level. I am a big fan of the Laneige lip masks and this moisturiser is no different. It's rich and creamy in texture but still light enough to use no matter the season (swipe for texture shot). I have a combination skin type and I find it very comforting ... MoreLaneige re-formulated their best-selling "Water Bank" moisturiser and it's ideal for anyone who has oily/dry/combination skin. Why change the perfection of the old formula?
21 February 2023

I finally had used up all of my jar of the prior formula and it was time to try this one. The old water bank moisturizer was my holy grail, found after many other moisturizers had bad ingredients, were too oily, or pilled. It also had a pleasant, subtle scent. The new moisturizer is so disappointing. It has the same name but it shouldn’t because it’s not the same moisturizer. The texture is different, it’s much more slick and oily compared to the previous cloud texture. The prior formula was so easy to pat on and freshen up dry skin. This just makes you look oily, and it has a bad smell, like play doh.$40 is expensive for moisturizer, but the prior water bank moisturizer was worth it to me. This is not worth using for free and I sadly now find myself on the hunt ... MoreI finally had used up all of my jar of the prior formula and it was time to try this one.
