Leaf Shave The Leaf Pivoting Head Razor Black

I have owned my Leaf 3 blade razor since August 2020.I also purchased the proprietary leaf single edge blades.At the time I rarely used it as I have many other SE and DE razors. Then, one day I had an epiphany! I used it to shave my always bald head,what a game changer. My prior head shavers have been both the Dovo head razor now discontinued and the ubiquitous Head Blade. Both of them used cartridge type blades at an added cost. The leaf shaves perfectly clean and the pivoting head allows for turning-the-corner on my scalp while shaving to work against the grain and with no weeps or cuts. My shave creams on the cartridge type razors were always clogging and needing a lot of rinsing during the shave. I now use either my preferred Zirh and the gel type Van Der Hagen cooling shave gel with blades made by Perma-Sharp, Russian made(P&G-=Gillette) SE pre-snapped SE blades.The leaf blades in my opinion are not sharp enough but they do work well in either shavettes or my new Proof Razor.The Leaf razor and their siblings of Twig and Thorn all hold a place in my shave cabinet.The Twig and Thorn work best for me under the nose and below my lower lip.My only complaint with the Leaf is the slipperiness of the handle even using their rubber handle glove. I wish the handle was heavily stippled or knurled. A great head shaver and well made at a good price range.

But ultimately: it cut my head to pieces.I’ve shaved my head for some years now, and was looking for a long term change. The Leaf gets very high reviews, so despite the high initial cost (compounded because I’m an international customer), I approached it as an investment. First impressions were great. The Prism colour looks awesome, and the weight of the razor is very satisfying. The handle can be a little slippery when wet, but the bundle includes a grip if required. The case fits the razor nicely - though I’d have quite liked a separate section to include a box of blades without risk of the it getting wet - and the tin is just what you need to dispose of the blades safely. The stand is minimal but sturdy.The first shave I used three blades, and was very conscious to let the weight of the razor do the work and not to apply too much pressure. I cut myself in 5 places, something which just doesn’t happen with a mainstream brand. I switched to two blades for the next shave, resulting in fewer cuts (2), but also a less close shave.One major benefit of the Leaf is that you can use different brands of blade, so I ordered in half a dozen to try. Unfortunately it was the same story - cut after cut, despite varying closeness. The final straw came when I tried out the Astra Platinum blade, which is the go-to for many. I managed to remove a section of skin, which hurt in a way that would make this review expletive-ridden and turn the air blue.I’ve given the Leaf several months (I bought it in the Black Friday sale and it’s now March), but have admitted defeat. Back to the trusty Gillette Pro Glide and the shave is quicker, safer - no nicks at all - and closer. Even if it does feel like a child’s toy in comparison.

A couple years ago made the decision to minimize my single use plastic consumption in as many ways I could and switching to a safety razor from my old disposable razors was a no brainer! If you are in the market for plastic free shaving alternatives LOOK NO FURTHER. Leaf has been top tier with their customer service, answering my inquiries in a timely manner and providing the best solutions for any issues I’ve encountered. Before I was going through new razor heads every week or two, but with my Leaf razor I can get the blades to last foreverrr. Only once have I had to buy a refill pack of blades and I’ve been using Leaf for two years!! Otherwise your blades will rust and not last nearly as long. I also never leave my razor in the shower full time.) I recently got their dermaplaning tool and it’s incredible. Leaf has created products that make you feel good while also making you feel good about your environmental impact. Overall quality products, great customer service, I'm saving money, and I’m reducing plastic waste. What more could ya ask for!
