I received a free sample of the LeapFrog LeapReader Learn-to-Read 10-Book Mega Pack. My 6 year old daughter loves it! She uses it to read every day. It’s so simple to use, I like that it helps her learn to read. The stories keep her engaged and she gets excited going through them with the Reader. Another bonus is the Reader pen can be programmed to work on most other LeapFrog books, not just the ones that come with the pack. So the reading possibilities are endless. I highly recommend this for any child to get them interested in reading.

My toddler loves this set. He can tap the words and it says each word for him. It also has a story built into the pictures too, if you tap in the characters on each page they have dialog with each other which builds to the story and also there are cute little sounds that the objects in each page will make too. Another neat thing is that there are also little games built into the books. Plus these books are made of quality material and feel tough which should hold up to a toddler who plays rough. Leap products are expensive enough and when you buy them they want you to spend more money to be able to have full access to each products features. Its a good educational product but just be aware that you will need to spend more money if you want full access to all of its capabilities.

It has the same options or hear a word, sound or letter name, or to have the text read to you. At first glance, I wasn't a fan of the yellow highlights, thinking they may be distracting. But on using it, I like it... for the most part. In the word "leap", the "ea" will first say "ee". If you touch it again, it says, "In the word leap, the letters e, a say the sound ee." I really like that. What I don't like is when it fully highlights words. Example: the whole word is highlighted for "do". If you click the d, it just says "do". I don't know how many kids will click twice, but I wish it was more consistent. I do enjoy the activities in the back of these books! They offer a bit of what I love about the LeapStart in that regard. It takes the sounds, and gives two levels of game play to put the sounds in to action or engage a more reluctant reader. Overall, the LeapReader is a great tool. It gets kids off a screen and in front of an actual book, which is so important to me with as prevalent as screens are today.

My daughter loves it!

First, the parent has to create a profile on the leap frog website. From there you will have to download the books onto the pen before use which requires computer access and the provided usb cord. I think the process is a little outdated and should be made so that the books can be uploaded using Bluetooth capabilities or WiFi. Those who don’t have a computer at home or aren’t computer savvy may not find this system easy to set up.As for actual use of the pen and books, my daughter absolutely loves the books. She spent an hour reading when we set it up the first night. She likes that she can listen to the pen without the books as well. In fact she uses the pen at night if she is having trouble sleeping. Great variety of reading books! The pen is easy to use!

Perfect for first time readers.
11 November 2021

My son is a preschooler and is learning how to read. This Leapfrog LeapReader is amazing. My son points out the stylus on a difficult or a new word and then learns how to pronounce it. This pack has 10 great books and the stories are interesting too. The activities in the book makes them interesting too and definitely encourages my son to try and read the entire book. I would definitely recommend this to parents whose kids are starting on their reading journey or for kids who hate to read. The stylus comes with a rechargeable battery and is also super easy to carry around or take it along on a vacation.

Perfect for my 5 and 6 year olds!

Got this set for my 5 and 6 year who are being homeschooled. They are doing good learning to read but needed just a little extra help. And this set has been perfect. It has gotten them more interested in reading as it made reading really come alive for them. The pen not only reads out loud but if you touch it to the characters and objects in the photos it brings them to life with noises and voices. It also has different modes for reading where it will either read the whole word or sound it out for you. The books it came with are super cute and fun also. And as a mom I love the fact that it is rechargeable instead of having to buy new batteries all the time. Perfect for our kindergartener

Our kindergartener can read many 3-4 letter words and finds this product very helpful. It is a nice added tool to help reinforce what she learns while working with us or at school. Sometimes she just needs to check that she got the word right and this does that very well as she can read it and then specify the word she wants to hear. The read to me function works well if she wants it read to her and to read along. The 10 books are all fun and build on her vocabulary with words that she is still learning while also having plenty of simple words to help build her confidence. I really appreciate the thought that when into this phonics-based reading system. Some words or parts of words are highlighted in yellow to identify that they either make a single sound or that they don’t follow typical phonics patterns. As an adult, I sometimes don’t think about those subtle differences with phonics which makes it more difficult to teach reading. I also really enjoy the many different ways to interact with the stories. The pen can read the story, say the words, make the letter sounds, or identify the letters. Example, “C-A-T CAT” It is also extremely accurate. The pen always has known where it is being touched to. I’ve not seen it make a mistake. The set came with ten books plus a parent guide. Each book focuses on a different vowel sound. There is a book for each short vowel sound, long vowel sound A, I, O, U, and a book about the letter Y and the different sounds it makes. The long vowel books also introduce the silent E. I do wish that the books were numbered with a suggested order to use them. They seem to have some easy books and some that are a bit more difficult so some order would be nice. The end of each book also has some games that are related to the sounds learned in the book. My kids do find some of the games too difficult, but with an adult they can do them. The pen also provides some educational entertainment without the books. There are audiobooks and songs. My kids love the songs! They bring the pen in the car just to listen to the songs and sing along. I do wish there were more songs and audiobooks available to download just so I didn’t have to hear the same 2 on repeat quite as much.
