LeapFrog LeapReader Learn to Read 10-Book Mega Pack

I received a free sample of the LeapFrog LeapReader Learn-to-Read 10-Book Mega Pack. My 6 year old daughter loves it! She uses it to read every day. It’s so simple to use, I like that it helps her learn to read. The stories keep her engaged and she gets excited going through them with the Reader. Another bonus is the Reader pen can be programmed to work on most other LeapFrog books, not just the ones that come with the pack. So the reading possibilities are endless. I highly recommend this for any child to get them interested in reading.

My toddler loves this set. He can tap the words and it says each word for him. It also has a story built into the pictures too, if you tap in the characters on each page they have dialog with each other which builds to the story and also there are cute little sounds that the objects in each page will make too. Another neat thing is that there are also little games built into the books. Plus these books are made of quality material and feel tough which should hold up to a toddler who plays rough. But there is one thing that as a parent I find HIGHLY annoying and that is that there's a constant message I hear it say, which tells my child to go ask his parent to go online and purchase more content. Leap products are expensive enough and when you buy them they want you to spend more money to be able to have full access to each products features. Its a good educational product but just be aware that you will need to spend more money if you want full access to all of its capabilities.

It has the same options or hear a word, sound or letter name, or to have the text read to you. At first glance, I wasn't a fan of the yellow highlights, thinking they may be distracting. But on using it, I like it... for the most part. In the word "leap", the "ea" will first say "ee". If you touch it again, it says, "In the word leap, the letters e, a say the sound ee." I really like that. What I don't like is when it fully highlights words. Example: the whole word is highlighted for "do". If you click the d, it just says "do". I don't know how many kids will click twice, but I wish it was more consistent. I do enjoy the activities in the back of these books! They offer a bit of what I love about the LeapStart in that regard. It takes the sounds, and gives two levels of game play to put the sounds in to action or engage a more reluctant reader. Overall, the LeapReader is a great tool. It gets kids off a screen and in front of an actual book, which is so important to me with as prevalent as screens are today.
